Chapter 79 Hide Our Relationship

As Katherine heard the passersby gossiping about boyfriends and girlfriends, her face blushed with embarrassment.

A man and a woman walking hand in hand naturally gave the impression of a couple deeply in love.

However, she and Alex were not walking side by side but one in front of the other, with Alex leading the way and her reluctantly following behind.

Rather than looking like a couple, Katherine thought it was more like a parent leading a disobedient child.

Katherine felt uncomfortable with the misunderstanding. Privately, she and Alex had a purely business relationship. So, she wanted to retract her hand to dispel any misconceptions from onlookers.

But as she moved her arm, she realized they had reached the car.

Alex naturally let go of her hand, opened the car door for her, and said in a low voice, "Get in."

Without hesitation, Katherine bent down and got into the car. As she got into the car, the man raised his arm to shield her head from hitting the car roof, a very courteous and gentlemanly gesture.

Katherine was taken aback.

Although Alex usually appeared aloof, he had excellent upbringing deep down and possessed a great deal of gentlemanly demeanor.

The car drove on.

Katherine leaned back lazily in her seat and said, "Thanks, Alex."

Alex was sitting upright in the car, browsing through his phone. When he heard her, he raised an eyebrow slightly and glanced at her, saying, "Thanks for what?"

Katherine earnestly replied, "Thank you for treating me to supper just now."

Originally, she intended to pay for herself, but Alex had held her hand and had Mr. Nelson settle the bill.

Alex indifferently diverted his gaze, not paying much attention to her gratitude.

"Alex, come on, let me see your hand," Katherine said again, with a hint of assertiveness in her tone.

She reached out her hand and hooked her finger towards him.

Alex looked at her and asked, "What's up?"

Katherine took out a burn ointment from her pocket, held it up, and said seriously, "I bought this for you when we passed by a pharmacy just now. You got burned because of me. I want to take responsibility for it."

"No need," Alex replied expressionlessly, rejecting her offer.

It wasn't much of a burn, just a slight redness. He already forgot that minor injury.

Seeing his reluctance, Katherine directly grabbed his hand and checked it in front of her. She noticed a slight redness on the back of his hand and furrowed her brows.

She squeezed out some ointment and carefully applied it to the red area on the back of his hand, saying, "Alex, I didn't mean to spill coffee on your hand earlier. I'm sorry."

Alex hesitated for a moment, and then let her proceed without resistance, watching Katherine apply the ointment.

He didn't care much about the minor injury, but the way Katherine was taking care of it made him feel somewhat special. He couldn't help but smile slightly, answering, "It's rare that Ms. Galatea knows to apologize proactively. "

Katherine straightforwardly replied, "If I make a mistake, I will apologize. And I know burns can be painful, so applying ointment is very necessary. "

Alex furrowed his brows and then inquired, "How do you know about this? Have you been burned before?"

Burns was indeed more unbearable than other injuries, with a continuous burning sensation that was hard to ignore.

Katherine nodded, "I grew up in the countryside, where I had to chop wood, make fires, and boil water. When I was learning to these things, I often got burned and couldn't sleep all night from the pain."

Alex's brows furrowed even more, a hint of tension rising in his dark eyes. He asked, "When did you start doing housework?"

Katherine replied calmly, "I don't remember."

She didn't want to delve into her childhood memories. It slipped out accidentally, and she didn't want to continue.

Alex involuntarily placed his other large hand on top of her head, gently patting it as one would affectionately pet a small animal., comforting, "Did you have a hard time in your childhood?"

"Not really," she said.

Katherine didn't like the feeling of being pitied. She disdainfully pushed away the hand he placed on her head and said seriously, "Alex, you may not be very familiar with  my family. I think it's necessary to tell you. The Galatea Family is very greedy. If they find out about our relationship, it won't just be troublesome for me, but it will also bring a lot of unnecessary trouble to you. I assume you don't like trouble, right? So, I hope you can cooperate with me and try to hide our relationship."

Alex caught a whiff of the unpleasant smell of the ointment, which put him in a bad mood. He narrowed his eyes unhappily and said, "Is someone bullying you in the Galatea Family? If needed, I can..."

"Not necessary!" Katherine decisively shook her head, cutting off his words, and continued, "It's my family matter; I can handle it myself. Besides, I think we don't need to do anything extra for each other. Three months later, we will end our relationship. And by then, we can treat each other as strangers who don't even need to say hello again."

The warmth in Alex's eyes instantly dissipated, leaving only coldness.

Katherine kept mentioning the end of their relationship in three months. How much was she looking forward to that day?

After ending the relationship, they would become strangers who didn't even need to acknowledge each other.

How much did Katherine not want to know him?

Alex's brows furrowed, and he withdrew his hand indifferently, saying in a low voice, "Ms. Galatea, you're overthinking. I don't have time to deal with your family affairs."

Katherine pursed her lips, not caring much about his indifference, and then tightened the lid of the ointment and handed it to him, advising, "Alex, take this burn ointment with you. Remember to apply it twice a day and it should heal in about a week."

Alex, with a stern face, didn't take it. Katherine had to lean over and stuff it into his suit pocket.

After that, the two remained silent until the car arrived at the Melville Manor, where they got off and went to their respective rooms.

With Sandra absent at the Melville Manor, they didn't have to act together in the same room for the time being.

Alex went to the study to sleep while Katherine returned to her bedroom.

That night, one person slept soundly in the bedroom while the other spent the night smoking in the study.

Early the next morning, Katherine was awakened by the constant ringing of the phone.

She groggily reached for the phone on the bedside table, put it to her ear, and answered.

Joshua's voice erupted suddenly on the other end. "Katherine, look what have you done!"

Still half-asleep, Katherine asked wearily, "Joshua, what's the matter?"

Joshua roared, "What do you think? You ruined Sherry's new movie! Get back home immediately! I think you're really going crazy!"

Without asking further, Katherine calmly replied, "Okay, I got it. I'll come back right away."

After hanging up the phone, Katherine sat up, rubbed her eyes, and woke up fully.

She didn't need to guess much to know what had happened. Sherry must have exaggerated things again and complained to Joshua.
