Chapter 484 Alice's Meticulous Mind
Alice and Scarlett exchanged a look, surprised Katherine showed up so fast. They thought they had covered their tracks well enough to keep her in the dark.
Scarlett, still kneeling, felt uneasy seeing Bernard and Katherine together. She instinctively became cautious. "Bernard, weren't you going to the office? Why are you back?"
Bernard had overheard Alice and Scarlett badmouthing Katherine to his grandparents. He already disliked Alice and now felt even more repulsed. He was also deeply disappointed in Scarlett, whom he once cared for.
"Katherine said she had something to discuss with you, so I came back to listen," Bernard replied.
"Katherine, what do you need from me?" Scarlett stood up, blinking in confusion.
Katherine glanced at her briefly, then turned to Vincent and Hellen, nodding politely. "Good morning. Sorry to bother you again."
After Alice and Scarlett's recent provocations, Vincent and Hellen were wary of Katherine but still liked her, hoping she wasn't as bad as the rumors suggested.
Vincent said, "Katherine, no need to be so formal. Have a seat and then tell us what's going on.."
Hellen nodded. "Yes, sit down and let's talk."
"Alright, I won't stand on ceremony then." Katherine smiled and sat on a single sofa next to Hellen and Vincent.
Due to her pregnancy, standing for long periods was tiring.
She then looked up slightly at Scarlett. "Scarlett, you should sit too. Let's talk this over calmly."
Scarlett frowned, feeling Katherine was being too assertive, but kept her composure. She forced a smile and sat back on the sofa, adopting the demeanor of the household's heiress. "Alright, Katherine, make yourself at home. Could someone grab her a drink?"
Katherine didn't stand on ceremony. "I don't need any beverages. Just a glass of warm water will do."
Bernard had already quietly taken a seat and observed the situation.
When the servant brought the warm water, Katherine took a sip before speaking. "Scarlett, did you go out this morning?"
Scarlett was taken aback. "No, I didn't! I went to bed late last night and just got up not long ago."
Katherine took another sip and raised an eyebrow. "Really? Then why did someone see you at a park on the outer ring, carrying a black suitcase?"
Scarlett's face changed. "Katherine, who told you they saw me? That's ridiculous. I haven't been out today; they must have mistaken someone else for me!"
Katherine smirked and pulled out her phone, showing the screen to everyone. "But isn't this person in the photo you?"
Scarlett's face turned pale when she saw the photo on Katherine's phone showing her meeting with Lillian and Sherry.
Alice also saw the photo and immediately sensed trouble!
Katherine handed the phone to Bernard. "Take a look. Isn't that your dear sister in the photo?"
Bernard glanced at the photo, his brow furrowing. He then looked at the pale-faced Scarlett. "What were you doing there so early?"
Scarlett never expected to be photographed. She had been so careful!
Damn, it must have been the Galatea family member that caught Katherine's attention!
Scarlett blinked nervously. "Bernard, I... I didn't..."
Bernard snorted in disgust. "You didn't? The photo is right here, and you still won't admit it?"
Scarlett insisted. "The photo might not be real! With today's tech, photos can be doctored, and videos can have faces swapped with AI! Bernard, don't trust a single photo so easily!"
Alice chimed in. "Yes, Bernard, don't rush to judge Scarlett! I think she came with ill intentions, bringing a fake photo to stir up trouble in our home! Every time she comes, she causes chaos. Bernard, you need to think carefully and not be manipulated!"
Bernard narrowed his eyes. "Alice, do you think Katherine has nothing better to do than waste her time on your family?"
Alice was left speechless.
Katherine glanced at Alice and calmly said, "Mrs. Alice Mitchell, you can take this photo to any authoritative institution for verification. If it's fake, I'll kneel and apologize to your daughter."
Alice knew the photo was real, but they couldn't admit it. If they took it for verification, there would be no room for denial.
She glared at Katherine and tried to shift the focus. "Since you brought this photo, you must have already arranged with the relevant institutions. Even if we take it for verification, we might not get the true result!"
Katherine chuckled. "You are thorough in your thinking! Even if I had arranged with domestic institutions, you could seek verification from international ones. Verifying whether a photo is doctored isn't a high-tech task. With the Mitchell family's connections, this should be easily handled!"
Alice's face turned sour, and she bit her lip, saying nothing.
Scarlett clenched her fists, quickly calming herself and putting on an innocent expression. "Katherine, what exactly are you trying to prove by bringing this photo to our home so early?"
Katherine looked at Scarlett, her expression indifferent. "Scarlett, the two people standing opposite you in the photo are my former stepmother, Lillian, and my non-blood-related sister, Sherry. They should have no connection with you, so why were you meeting them in a secluded park on the outer ring early in the morning? And what was in the black suitcase you were carrying? I'm very curious!"
Scarlett's eyes flickered, but she had been pretending for so long that her psychological resilience was strong. She remained relatively calm. "The person in the photo isn't me. I haven't been out this morning! If you don't believe me, you can ask the servants at home if they've seen me go out!"
