Chapter 599 What to Do About the Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony

Sophia grinned. "Mr. Allen, you're a real riot!"

"But you don't love me either." Hilton sighed, sounding all dramatic.

"Quit messing around, Mr. Allen. I know I'm not your type!"

Meanwhile, in a swanky villa out in the burbs, Katherine was chilling solo, munching on dinner and watching TV. She'd been crashing at Jonathan's place for almost six months now.

When she first bailed from the Melville Manor, her plan was to lay low until Alex stopped hunting her down. Then, she would go abroad on Jonathan's private jet. But the search never let up. Alex kept throwing more people into the mix, and every major transport hub was on lockdown.

Even though Jonathan had a private jet, it still had to get the thumbs up from the aviation authority, and they had to list everyone on board.

With Alex's obsession to find her, even a private jet wasn't sneaky enough. So, she had to roll with Jonathan's plan and move to this secluded villa in the sticks.

It was way out of town and not in a neighborhood, so no one would spot her. Plus, Jonathan had set her up with trustworthy staff, and supplies were regularly dropped off by car.

Honestly, Katherine wasn't short on places to crash; Frank and Ambrosia had a ton of houses and villas she could pick from. But she couldn't hide out in those spots 'cause Alex would definitely start sniffing around them to track her down.

'For real, I don't know how long I can keep this up, but there's no way I'm going back to being Mrs. Melville! I'm not even legally married. How could I live openly with the Melvilles?

Whatever, I said I didn't care before. But Alex can't marry another chick and still expect me to stick around and pop out his kids! Jerk!' As she was eating and stewing over it, her phone buzzed with a new message.

The phone she was using now had Jonathan's servant's number, so she wasn't sweating about being found out.

The text was a string of Morse code from some unknown number. Katherine squinted at it, her feelings all over the place.

It was a message from Ambrosia. Ambrosia and Frank always used different numbers to hit her up and only talked in Morse code.

This time, Ambrosia's message said that the Melville Group's new office building was done, and the ribbon-cutting ceremony was in three days. The Melville Group needed Moon to show up in person, or they'd bail on the final payment for breach of contract.

Katherine had personally snagged that deal and knew the cash involved was massive. But looking down at her noticeably bigger belly, she felt a wave of frustration.

Katherine pondered, 'If my baby bump wasn't so obvious, I could totally make up some excuse to wear a mask to the event, like saying I'm allergic to UV rays. Alex isn't the type to force people to do stuff they don't wanna do, so he wouldn't make me take it off. He's usually pretty chill with strangers. But showing up eight months pregnant? Way too sketchy!

If I don't go, the Melville Group won't cough up the final payment, and the Crescent Group could hit a cash flow crisis and maybe even go under. I can't let the company I busted my butt to build just crash and burn.

Plus, I've got a kid on the way and need the company to make bank to raise the baby!' The more she thought about it, the more stressed she got, unable to find a perfect solution.

Just then, the doorbell rang.

Katherine snapped back to reality, thinking, 'Who could that be? No one usually comes here except for the delivery truck Jonathan sends. But someone just dropped off supplies yesterday, so no way it's them again today!'

Katherine frowned as she watched the servant go to open the door.

Seeing the servant greeted respectfully to Jonathan, Katherine relaxed a bit, thinking, 'It's Jonathan! But why's he here again? This place is a trek from the city, like two hours each way. Doesn't he find it a hassle?

Plus, I've told him not to visit too often. If there's any problem, I'll hit him up. Even Jonathan, if he makes too many trips, could get noticed by Alex's people. Alex has set up a trap in Janetrick, waiting to nab me! Why's Jonathan here again?'

Jonathan walked over with a warm smile, carrying a takeout box. "Katherine, guess what I brought you?"

Katherine frowned, already stressed about the ribbon-cutting ceremony, and now even more annoyed seeing Jonathan show up for something so small.

"Why are you here again?" she asked.

Jonathan pouted, looking all hurt. "What do you mean by that? The last time I came was last month! I was worried you couldn't get what you wanted to eat, so I brought your favorite shrimp. Are you mad at me?"

Katherine was super annoyed. "Do you think I'd risk getting found by Alex just for some food?"

Jonathan walked over, put down the takeout box, and plopped onto the sofa with a smile. "Don't worry. I'm super careful and won't get spotted by Alex's people. Katherine, I'm more nervous about getting found out than you are!"

Katherine shot him a look. "You're more scared than I am? What are you afraid of? That if Alex finds out, the Melville family will go to war with the Mostow family? Honestly, I think this is risky for you. I've told you before, you don't have to take care of me. I could find some random family in a village to rent a place."

Jonathan shook his head. "Katherine, since I'm helping you, I'm willing to take the risk. What I mean is, I'm scared that if the Melville family finds out, I won't get to see you at all!"

Jonathan touched the takeout box, and the shrimp had already cooled after the long drive. He raised his hand and called a servant to heat the shrimp.

Then, he looked at Katherine, noticing her worried expression. "What's up? You in a bad mood? Is it too boring being here alone?"
