Chapter 600 Isn't She Scared of Being Spotted?

Katherine slouched on the couch, mumbling, "It's nothing."

Jonathan's eyes narrowed with concern. "Is it prenatal stuff? Should I call a doc?"

Katherine shook her head.

Jonathan tried to reassure her, "Chill, my crew's always on point. The Melville family won't find out. If you're feeling off, you gotta speak up."

"I'm really okay," Katherine looked up at Jonathan, feeling a bit guilty. "Mr. Mostow, thanks for everything. I don't wanna be a bother."

Jonathan's brows knitted slightly, feigning annoyance. "If you really wanna thank me, stop with the 'Mr. Mostow' thing. Just call me Jonathan."

Katherine knew Jonathan had a thing for her, so she kept her distance to avoid any drama. But Jonathan had made it clear he didn't like the formalities. He wanted her to call him by his first name.

To show she meant it, Katherine said, "Jonathan, thank you!"

Jonathan's smile returned. "I've already done so much for you, a bit more won't hurt."

Katherine really didn't want to lean on Jonathan anymore, and she didn't think he could help with what was bugging her. But after six months, she knew him well enough to spill the beans.

So Katherine laid it out, "In a few days, the Melville Group's moving into a new office, and they want me at the ribbon-cutting."

Jonathan was taken aback. "The Melville Group wants you at the ribbon-cutting? Does Alex know you're here with me?"

Katherine shook her head. "No, he's asking for me, as my other identity."

Jonathan was even more confused. "Your other identity is?"

Katherine explained, "In Janetrick, the building's designer has to be at the ribbon-cutting, or it's bad luck for the client."

Jonathan had heard of this tradition. He asked, surprised, "Katherine, you're the famous designer Moon?"

Katherine sighed, "I almost stopped taking projects, but the Melville Group offered too much money!"

Jonathan didn't catch Katherine's worry, just excitement about her secret. "Katherine, what other secrets are you hiding?"

Designer Moon was a big deal internationally, with tons of award-winning buildings, but Moon never showed up in public. Who knew it was Katherine!

Katherine shot Jonathan a look. "Surprised? Do you think I wanna chat about my secret identity right now?"

Jonathan snapped back to the main issue. "Katherine, you're just scared Alex will see you at the event, right? No worries. No one knows what Moon looks like. Just get someone to pretend to be you and cut the ribbon."

Katherine rubbed her forehead and sighed, "I once dealt with Alex as Moon. Even though I wore a mask and he didn't figure out who I was, he still has a general idea of me. It's not easy to find someone to fake being me. If he starts asking tricky questions about the design, the imposter could mess up. If he catches on, the $140 million balance won't get paid to the Crescent Group, and things will get messy!"

Jonathan squinted and asked, "Katherine, what's your deal with the Crescent Group?"

Katherine came clean, "Ambrosia and Frank are childhood friends."

"Got it!" Jonathan nodded, not prying further. "Yeah, $140 million is no joke!"

He thought no wonder Katherine was stressing.

"Katherine, ever heard of disguise techniques?" Jonathan raised an eyebrow, grinning.

"Disguise techniques?" Katherine scoffed, "Do you think we're in some martial arts flick?"

Jonathan shook his head. "Nah, I've heard about these realistic face masks you can buy now. They change your features so much, you look like a different person."

Katherine frowned. "Even if those exist, can you get one?"

Jonathan smiled. "I can try. If I snag one, you can wear it and go to the event without getting recognized."

Katherine wasn't sold on the idea. "Even if I wear a mask, what about my belly?"

Jonathan shrugged. "What's wrong with your belly? Lots of women are pregnant. Katherine, you're just overthinking it. If you go in with confidence, no one will notice!"

Katherine thought he had a point but was still worried. At eight months pregnant, staying cool in front of Alex would be tough.

"Alright, Katherine, stop stressing! I'll get the mask, and you just need to chill. It'll be fine," Jonathan reassured her.

Katherine nodded. She wasn't thrilled with the plan, but she had no better options.

Jonathan stuck around for dinner, then left, telling her to wait for news about the mask.

Thinking about seeing Alex at the ribbon-cutting in three days made Katherine anxious. She hadn't seen him in six months and thought she'd never see him again.

The next morning, Jonathan called, saying he found the mask and would have it delivered that evening.

Katherine had already adjusted her mindset and sent a Morse code message to Ambrosia, saying she'd attend the ribbon-cutting for the Melville Group Tower as Moon in three days.

Ambrosia read Katherine's message, feeling both surprised and worried. She thought, 'Katherine's really gonna show up. Isn't she scared Alex will spot her? Won't the past six months of hiding be for nothing?'
