Chapter 277 Bernard, I Forgave Katherine!
Scarlett sat in the hospital room, keeping an eye on Charles, but her mind was all over the place.
She wasn't too worried about Charles since the doctors had said his injuries were stable and wouldn't affect his overall health. They recommended a few days in the hospital to prevent infection from.
What really had her on edge was Alex, who had taken Katherine away for questioning!
Why hadn't Alex returned yet?
What could he be talking about with Katherine that was taking so long?
Charles, lying in the hospital bed, whimpered in his sleep from the pain of his burns. He was so young that he couldn't even talk in his sleep.
Bernard stood by the bed, looking grim. Seeing his nephew in such pain made his blood boil.
He realized Katherine was nothing but trouble, causing chaos wherever she went!
Now, Katherine wasn't just Scarlett's biggest worry; she was a potential threat to both Scarlett and Charles.
Maybe he should never have kept Katherine in the company, even if she was good at her job!
Bernard had been lenient because Katherine had once helped his grandfather, and he didn't want to be too harsh. But she kept pushing his limits by bullying and hurting Scarlett!
For Scarlett's sake, Katherine had to go, no matter what.
After some deep thought, Bernard stepped out to make a phone call.
Soon after Bernard left, Alex walked into the hospital room.
Scarlett called out, "Alex, you're back!"
Her eyes lit up as she got up to greet him.
But she quickly noticed something was off. Why was Alex alone? Where was Katherine?
Scarlett looked behind him, confirmed Katherine wasn't there, and asked, "Alex, where's Katherine? Hasn't she admitted to hurting Charles yet?"
Alex looked down at her and said, "She left."
Scarlett was stunned. "She left?"
Jonathan, who had been sitting in the room, stood up and walked over. "Alex, where did Katherine go?"
Alex glanced at him. "I don't know."
Jonathan frowned but didn't press further, planning to call Katherine himself later.
Scarlett's eyes filled with tears as she looked at Alex with a hint of resentment. "Alex, how could Katherine just leave like that? She hurt Charles so badly."
Alex looked at Scarlett, who seemed about to cry, and asked, "Why are you so sure it was Katherine who hurt Charles?"
Scarlett was taken aback and looked up, feeling extremely wronged. "Because I saw it!"
Alex squinted his eyes skeptically. "Are you sure you really saw it?"
Scarlett felt uneasy under his sharp gaze and started crying to hide her guilt. Her eyes turned red, and tears rolled down.
At that moment, Bernard, who had just finished his phone call, walked in and saw Scarlett, whom he usually couldn't bear to speak harshly to, being questioned by Alex in such an unkind manner, making her cry!
Bernard immediately felt displeased and quickly walked over, shielding Scarlett in his arms.
He questioned, "Alex, what are you implying? Are you saying Scarlett frame Katherine on purpose?"
Alex's expression remained unchanged as he looked directly at Bernard. "I mean, maybe she saw it wrong."
Scarlett, feeling deeply hurt, leaned against Bernard and shook her head. "No. I didn't see it wrong. It was Katherine who poured hot soup on Charles. Alex, did Katherine say something to you that made you not believe me?"
Alex answered, "She didn't say anything."
Scarlett inquired, "Then why don't you believe me, Alex? Do you really think I'm that kind of person who would falsely accuse others? Alex, I'm not that kind of person."
Seeing his sister crying so hard, Bernard couldn't bear it any longer!
Bernard reprimanded, "Alex, are you questioning Scarlett's character? Katherine said a few things to dodge responsibility, and now you're doubting the person who once almost died saving you?!"
Recalling the life-saving incident from the past, Alex frowned and looked at Scarlett with more tolerance and guilt.
He didn't question Scarlett further and said, "I checked the surveillance at the restaurant before leaving. The cameras weren't broken; the surveillance system was down. If we get someone to fix it, we can retrieve all the footage and uncover the truth."
Bernard didn't object. "Good! Let's get someone to fix it! I also want to see if Scarlett wronged Katherine!"
However, hearing that the surveillance could be fixed, Scarlett was stunned. Her face turned pale, and her expression became indescribably ugly.
Oh no!
If the surveillance were to be fixed, wouldn't everyone find out she was lying and framing Katherine?
Scarlett never thought that the broken surveillance could be fixed!
No way! She absolutely couldn't let that happen!
If it were discovered that she was lying, not only would Alex despise her, but even her always doting brother would be completely disappointed.
Feeling extremely guilty, she quickly pretended to be magnanimous and sighed. "Forget it, Bernard. Since Katherine has already left, I think we should just let it go! I'm really tired and don't want to pursue it anymore, nor do I want you and Alex to worry about it."
Seeing his sister, who had clearly been wronged, still wanting to make peace, Bernard felt heartbroken and said gently, "Scarlett, we can't just let it go! Charles's face is disfigured today; we can't just let this go! If you're tired, stay here and rest with Charles. I'll handle this. Don't worry, I won't let you and Charles suffer in vain!"
Seeing Bernard still insisting on pursuing the matter, Scarlett panicked and grabbed Bernard's arm, trying to persuade him, "Bernard, let's just forget it! I really don't want everyone to worry about this anymore! Actually, it's my fault! I insisted on inviting Katherine, and she took it out on my child because she hates me! It's my fault. I'll just stay away from Katherine in the future!"
