Chapter 725 Goodbye, Sophia
Fortunately, Katherine was just too indifferent to waste time on Jonathan and didn't have any real feelings for him.
Alex wasn't around, and Fiona was quite worried that Katherine might be pursued by other men!
The car stopped not far from the kindergarten entrance.
It was dismissal time, and many parents were lined up at the entrance to pick up their kids.
Janetrick's most prestigious kindergarten had strict rules to ensure the children's safety, allowing only one parent to enter and pick up their child to avoid too much chaos and distraction for the teachers.
Fiona volunteered to get out of the car and line up. "Katherine, I'll go get the kids. You can wait in the car!"
Katherine nodded and let her go.
However, she didn't wait in the car. Instead, she got out and stood by the vehicle, her eyes fixed on the kindergarten entrance.
A clown was selling balloons at the entrance. Thinking the kids would love them, she walked over to ask about the price and decided to buy three, one for each child.
She paid but didn't pick them out immediately.
There were too many styles of balloons, so she decided to let the kids choose their favorite styles and colors when they came out.
Jonathan had followed her since she got out of the car, standing beside her with his usual mischievous smile.
The handsome man and beautiful woman standing together were too conspicuous, drawing admiring glances from the parents lined up to pick up their kids.
Katherine felt a bit uncomfortable about this.
Jonathan, however, was enjoying it. "Katherine, do you think those people see us as a couple here to pick up our kids?"
Katherine rolled her eyes at him. "Then stay away from me quickly."
Jonathan shrugged. "Why? What they think is their business!"
Katherine gave him a disdainful look, moved a bit away from him, and ignored him, focusing her gaze on the kindergarten entrance to see where Fiona was in the line.
At that moment, a large black SUV stopped in front of them, blocking her view.
Katherine frowned in displeasure and was about to ask the driver to move the car forward a bit.
Just then, the car door opened, and a graceful woman stepped out, holding a child who was wearing an Iron Man mask.
The child was crying loudly for some reason, and the woman was frantically trying to soothe him. "Julian, be good, don't cry! Mommy will buy you a cartoon balloon, okay? Look, which one do you like?"
Hearing the familiar voice, Katherine looked closely at the woman's face, her expression freezing as she squinted her eyes.
The woman was focused on soothing the child and didn't notice Katherine at first. It was only when she felt Katherine's gaze that she turned to look at her.
Their eyes met.
Then, the woman holding the child greeted first, "Katherine, is that you? It's been ages! What a coincidence to run into you just as I got back to the country! Seems like fate, doesn't it?"
Katherine looked at Sophia, whom she hadn't seen in three years, and then at the child in her arms. Without any pretense, she asked directly with some suspicion, "Is this child yours?"
Sophia's eyes sparkled with happiness as she looked at the child. "Yes, this is my son! I got married while you were away. His name is Julian. Julian, say hi to Mrs. Galatea!"
The little boy, wearing an Iron Man mask, was too captivated by the balloons in the clown's hand to greet Katherine as his mother had instructed.
Katherine frowned slightly, scrutinizing Sophia. "You got married? To whom?"
Sophia smiled openly. "You wouldn't know him even if I told you! My husband is just an ordinary person who grew up abroad. Before we got married, he had never been back to the country. Katherine, you wouldn't have met him."
"Is that so?" Katherine squinted her eyes, her expression thoughtful.
Seeing Katherine's expression, Sophia laughed. "Katherine, you don't think my husband is Alex, do you?"
Hearing Alex's name from Sophia's mouth, Katherine's heart tightened slightly, her eyes still probing as she looked at her.
Sophia's face showed no guilt or abnormality, even with a hint of self-mockery. "I wish I could have married Alex, but he didn't have feelings for me! Back then, despite my repeated pleas, he insisted on annulling our marriage and went back to find you. I was devastated, but I gradually came to terms with it and moved on. Fortunately, I later met my current husband, who loves me very much and makes me feel very happy."
Katherine couldn't detect any insincerity in Sophia's expression, but she still had her doubts. She asked, "What's your husband's last name?"
Sophia didn't hesitate. "You can call my husband Mr. Turner. Katherine, I understand your suspicions, but you're really overthinking it! I've heard that Alex hasn't been found all these years, and I truly feel for you both. But even without Alex, you’ve managed to secure your place as Mrs. Melville, so in a way, you got what you wanted, right?"
Sophia's words seemed kind on the surface but carried an undertone of sarcasm and mockery.
Katherine didn't care about Sophia's mockery. She had always suspected that Alex's disappearance was related to Sophia, but she could never find any evidence.
Three years ago, after her two children were able to leave the incubator, she flew to Markovia to confront Sophia about Alex, even before she had fully recovered.
At that time, Sophia firmly stated that after she and Alex completed the annulment procedures, she sent him to the airport and hadn't seen him since, claiming she didn't know where Alex went.
Moreover, she openly allowed them to search Brent's estate!
And they did search but found no clues.
The only lead they found in Markovia was airport surveillance footage showing Alex being pushed into the airport by Leander, which was the last footage before he disappeared.
In the end, neither of them boarded the plane and just vanished.
"By the way, Katherine, what are you doing here?" Sophia asked with a smile.
Katherine snapped out of her thoughts and answered her question, "I'm here to pick up the kids."
Sophia's eyes shifted to Jonathan, who was standing next to Katherine, and she asked with a hint of curiosity, "Are you two picking up the kids together? Are they your kids, or..."
Jonathan was about to respond with a smile, but Katherine quickly interjected. "I'm here to pick up my kids. He just happened to be passing by."
Sophia gave a knowing smile. "So Mr. Mostow is just passing by. I thought you two were dating!"
