Chapter 745 Settling Accounts Afterwards
Katherine felt a bit helpless about Bernard's excessive pampering of her children.
"Mr. Mitchell, stop coddling the kid for a moment. Has the auction for the Silvershade Vale property started yet?" she asked.
Bernard looked up at her and said, "It's already been won."
Hearing that the desired property had been secured, Katherine felt relieved and asked, "At what price?"
Bernard raised his long, slender hand and held up one finger.
Katherine squinted, "One hundred million dollars?"
Bernard nodded. "Someone in the opposite box kept bidding, and it finally went up to that amount. Don't worry, even if it exceeds your budget, I'll cover it for you."
This amount indeed far exceeded Katherine's budget.
It wasn't that the Melville Group couldn't afford it, but because no matter how good the location of the Silvershade Vale property was, its area was ultimately not that large. Spending one hundred million dollars on it was simply not worth it!
From a comprehensive value perspective, this price was very unreasonable!
The people attending this auction were either rich or noble, with money to spend, but who would bid far above market value for that property?
Katherine smiled at Bernard, "Mr. Mitchell, I appreciate your effort. I have the money, but I think this price is a bit off. Let me check who is in the opposite box."
Bernard knew the price was problematic, but he had promised Katherine he would secure the Silvershade Vale property for her, so he didn't stop bidding at the time.
He was willing to pay the outrageous premium to fulfill Katherine's wish.
Katherine didn't want to be taken for a fool, and even if Bernard insisted on being the fool for her, she wouldn't allow it.
So, she gently told Charles to stay with Bernard and watch over the other kids, then got up and left.
Bernard furrowed his brows and called out to her, but Katherine didn't stop and walked out the door.
Watching Katherine leave, Bernard wanted to follow, but with three kids around, he couldn't leave, lest he lose another one!
Helplessly, he pinched the bridge of his nose and sighed.
Outside the box, Katherine looked at the box directly opposite and walked over.
Billy saw her come out and immediately asked with concern, "Ms. Galatea, where are you going?"
Katherine raised her hand, "Don't follow me. I'll just take a look and come back."
Billy was worried but didn't dare follow too closely for fear of upsetting Katherine, so he followed from a distance.
At the door of the box, Katherine raised her hand and knocked lightly.
A woman's voice quickly came from inside, "Come in."
The voice sounded familiar, and Katherine's eyebrows raised slightly, feeling her suspicion confirmed.
Hearing the invitation, she pushed the door open.
Sophia was sitting alone in the box, looking bored over a cup of coffee.
She hadn't noticed anything unusual, thinking it was an auction attendant bringing fruit.
Katherine stood at the door, a cold smile on her lips.
As expected, it was Sophia maliciously driving up the price!
The property belonged to Sophia's father, and she pretended to be a bidder to drive up the price, benefiting her own family more.
This was definitely against the rules in the auction world!
Sophia didn't look up and continued sipping her coffee, instructing, "Just leave it and go."
When she didn't receive the usual polite response, Sophia sensed something was wrong. She looked up and her eyes widened!
"Katherine! What are you doing here?"
Sophia's first reaction upon seeing Katherine was surprise and disgust, followed by a guilty look as she glanced behind Katherine, fearing Trevor and Julian would return and see her.
Katherine's lips curled into a mocking smile, "Mrs. Coleman, don't you think your behavior is quite despicable?"
Feeling insulted, Sophia frowned, "What did I do? Katherine, are you so frustrated from lacking a man that you came here to cause trouble?"
Katherine stepped into the box and gently closed the door.
"Silvershade Vale is your family's property, isn't it?"
Hearing this, Sophia frowned, "Why are you asking? What does it have to do with you?"
Katherine replied, "Of course, it has to do with me because I just won that property for one hundred million dollars!"
Sophia was stunned, "It was you? What, you can't afford it and came to trouble me? Katherine, if you couldn't afford it, you shouldn't have bid against me! Now that the deal is done, and you want to back out? Let me tell you, that's illegal!"
Katherine sneered, "You know what's illegal? Your father's property is up for auction, and you came here to drive up the price. Do you think that's legal?"
Sophia was indifferent, "Do you have evidence to prove Silvershade Vale is my father's property? If not, I suggest you leave immediately, or I'll call security!"
Sophia was feeling guilty, not because of what Katherine said, but because she feared Trevor and Julian would return and see Katherine.
That would be troublesome!
Katherine frowned slightly, "I may not have evidence now, but I won't let you treat me like a fool. After the auction, we'll discuss with the auction house whether that price is valid."
Sophia vaguely heard the sound of Trevor's wheelchair and became anxious, "Get out now! This is a private box, and you have no right to be here!"
Katherine had only come to confirm her suspicion and didn't want to waste more words with Sophia. She gave her a cold glance and turned to leave.
They would settle this after the auction.
As Katherine left, Trevor and George were just returning.
If Katherine had been a moment later, they might have run into each other.
But Katherine walked out and headed in the opposite direction without looking at Trevor.
Thus, they missed each other again.
She didn't see Trevor, but Trevor saw her.
Watching Katherine leave Sophia's box, seemingly unhappy, Trevor narrowed his eyes.
He felt a strange tug in his chest, unable to look away from her departing figure.
George also saw Katherine come out of the box and blinked nervously.
Why was his mommy coming out of the handsome daddy's box? Was she here to catch him?
