Katherine's finger, which was about to press the hang-up button, paused, and stated sternly, "State your identity and get to the point."
The other person said, "I'm right here! Look to your left, and you'll know who I am!"
Katherine glanced to her left, and a figure emerged from a nearby alley, waving at her.It was Sophie, whom she hadn't seen in a long time.
The call used a voice changer, so Katherine couldn't recognize her voice.
If Sophie were being straightforward, she wouldn't have used a voice changer, which meant something fishy was going on!
Katherine looked sharply in that direction and taunted into the phone, "Miss Jones, it's you? If you have something to say, just say it directly. Why use such a runabout approach? Is it fun?"
Sophie stood at the entrance to the alley way. She beckoned, "I do have something to discuss with you. Come over here, and we can talk."
Katherine wasn't falling for it and smiled politely as she refused, "I won't go over there. You're already at the Melville family's door. You can come in, and let's sit down and really talk this through."
Because of the failed car accident yesterday, Sophie was now being hunted all over the city by people Alex sent. She didn't even dare go home or stay in a hotel, so there was no way she would dare enter the Melville family's house!
Sophie insisted, "I can't go to the Melville Manor. I heard Jackie Melville and Sandra Melville are back. With the elders around, it's not convenient to talk openly. You should come over here, and we can find a quiet place to chat."
Sophie was known to be Scarlett's close friend who was often manipulated by Scarlett. Now that Sophie was looking for her, it could only mean that Scarlet had platted something.
Katherine didn't intend to fall into her trap and said indifferently, "Then I'm sorry. I'm very tired today. If Miss Jones doesn't want to come into the Melville family to talk, let's discuss it another day."
With that, Katherine hung up the phone and prepared to go inside.
Sophie heard the busy tone on the phone and gritted her teeth in frustration. Katherine was still pain!
Remembering the task she had to complete today, Sophie quickly walked over and caught up with Katherine before she entered the door. "Wait!" Sophie called out to her.
Katherine had already half-way inside. Hearing Sophie's voice approaching, she turned her head and smiled as she said, "Miss Jones, have you changed your mind and want to come in and sit?"
Sophie frowned in frustration. She retorted sarcastically, "Do I have any other choice? You won't go outside to talk with me!"
If she hadn't seen Alex leave in his car just now, she wouldn't have dared to step into the Melville family house.
Taking advantage of Alex's absence, she decided to go in and try to get things done...
Katherine smiled at Sophie as she invited her over, "Then please come in."She then led Sophie into the Melville Manor...
In the Melville family living room, Jackie, Sandra, and Fiona were sitting together, having lunch.
Hearing the sound of someone changing shoes at the door, Sandra looked up and saw Katherine coming in. She immediately beamed, "Katherine, you're back! Perfect timing, wash your hands, and join us for lunch!"
Katherine changed into slippers, walked in, and greeted Jackie and Sandra with a smile. "Grandma, I have a friend with me. We have something to discuss privately. Could you please have lunch sent to my room so we can talk while we eat?"
A friend came? Sandra looked behind Katherine and noticed Sophie, who seemed a bit uneasy. "Oh, it's Ms. Jones from the Jones family!" she greeted.
Sophie, feeling anxious because Alex's people were searching for her, felt even more nervous seeing the Melville family elders... "Mr. Melville, Mrs. Melville, long time no see. How have you been?" she awkwardly greeted them.
"We're good, very good." Sandra nodded with a smile and said understandingly, "Katherine, take your friend upstairs. I'll have someone heat the food and bring it to you."
Katherine smiled sweetly. She replied, "Thank you, Grandma."
She then led Sophie upstairs...
As soon as the two girls went upstairs, Jackie snorted, "She's not very polite, bringing a friend over and not sitting down to eat with us. Instead, she wants to eat and talk in her room! What are they afraid of us hearing? Who knows what shady things they're discussing?"
Sandra gave her husband a stern look. Then scolded him, "Katherine is our granddaughter-in-law. This is her home, too. Why should she be polite? And it's normal for girls to have private conversations. Why should you listen in? Besides, Katherine already cleared her name at the press conference this morning. Stop causing trouble!"
Jackie, scolded by Sandra, fell silent but snorted arrogantly and continued eating.
Fiona, however, furrowed her brows in confusion, looking in the direction Katherine and Sophie had gone to. She mumbled to herself, "Strange..."
Sandra overheard Fiona's muttering and asked, "Fiona, what are you thinking about? What's strange?"
Fiona snapped out of it and said in bewilderment, "I just find it strange that Katherine and Sophie ended up being friends. Sophie didn't like Katherine before, and she's Scarlett's best friend. Not to mention, Scarlett and Katherine are rivals because of Alex. How could they be on friendly terms?"
Sandra's expression darkened at the mention of Scarlett. She scolded Fiona, "Don't talk nonsense. Scarlett and Katherine are not rivals! Alex never had anything with her! And be more respectful to Katherine. Listen to your tone just now."
Fiona pouted, feeling misunderstood. She didn't dislike Katherine anymore, but she was used to calling her by name and couldn't change it immediately...
Sandra added, "Alright, just eat your meal and stop overthinking."
Meanwhile, upstairs, Katherine led Sophie into the room and told her to sit wherever she liked. She went to change into comfortable loungewear.
When she came out of the bathroom, having changed, the lunch Sandra had sent was already set up on a small table in the bedroom.
Feeling hungry, Katherine sat down, picked up her chopsticks, and started eating. She smiled at Sophie, who was sitting nearby. She offered, "Don't be shy. Since you're here, have some food."
Sophie wasn't there to eat and frowned in displeasure. "Katherine, did you bring me to this room to show off how happy you are living with Alex?" she questioned impatiently.
Katherine, eating, chuckled at the question. "Why would Miss Jones think that?" she replied calmly.
Sophie glared at her. "Otherwise, who brings guests directly into their bedroom?" she remarked.
Katherine replied, "You're overthinking it. I brought you to this room because..."
