Chapter 125 Alex Had a Dream!
Katherine said calmly, "No."
A dark light flickered in Alex's eyes. They stared at each other, the atmosphere eerie.
Suddenly, he frowned, turned his head, and coughed uncomfortably twice!
Katherine's eyes tightened slightly. "Alex, do you have a cold?"
Alex waved his hand with a stern face and said coldly, "It's nothing."
Katherine furrowed her brows.
It was cold and damp in the valley, and Alex, being quite the gentleman, gave her his coat. Later, he even slept in the cave. No wonder he caught a cold!
"Alex, you do have a cold. Tonight, cover yourself with a few more blankets to sweat it out. Physical cooling will help," she then said.
"You know medicine?" Alex looked at Katherine inquisitively, recalling the last time when KatherineSherry's cooking poisoned him, and she had quickly figured it out.
Katherine nodded slightly. "A little bit."
Alex's eyes held a hint of admiration. "Did you study it?"
Katherine shook her head and added, "I wouldn't say I studied it. I grew up in the countryside, and there happened to be a master in the village who knew some medical skills. She often helped the villagers with various ailments, and I learned a bit from being around her."
His brows furrowed deeper. "Why were you living in such a place at such a young age?"
"Because of my..." Katherine opened her mouth but then stopped.
She suddenly remembered that Frank had found out she wasn't Joshua's biological daughter, and she couldn't bring herself to say "dad."
"Because my stepmother didn't want me, so she sent me to live with relatives. My cousins there didn't like me either, so they sent me to other relatives. I was like a hot potato, passed around by everyone who didn't want to keep me. Eventually, they all decided to pool some money together and settled me in the countryside," she stated.
Alex listened to Katherine's light-hearted, even slightly self-mocking recount of her unhappy childhood, feeling a heaviness in his chest and his brows furrowing tighter.
He raised his large hand and gently ruffled her hair like she was a small animal. "You won't be tossed around anymore."
Katherine had long since come to terms with it and shrugged indifferently. "Yeah! Now that I'm grown and independent, I don't need anyone to take me in. Nobody can toss me around now!"
Alex's face darkened, and he pinched the bridge of his nose. What he meant was he would be with her all his life.
Katherine, at times, seemed to have no emotional intelligence.
"Alex, take your time. I'll wander around over there." With that, Katherine was about to stroll ahead by herself, feeling bored and wanting to check out the brown bear.
"You're not going anywhere. Go back to sleep!" Alex's voice was low and stern.
At the same time, Katherine was grabbed by the collar by the man's large hand and forcefully dragged back to the suite.
When they returned to the room, Teresa and Sunny were gone. They might have gone out to battle!
Alex locked the door to prevent any more interruptions and then went straight to the bathroom to take a shower.
Katherine lay down on the bed first. Since they were spending the night outside, she needed to pretend to be a couple with Alex and couldn't sleep in separate rooms. So, she had to claim the bed first and make Alex sleep on the couch!
After a long day, Katherine quickly fell asleep shortly after lying down on the bed.
She had a long dream. She dreamt of her childhood when she was feeling unwell, and her mother took her to the hospital.
While waiting in line at the hospital, her mother asked if she was hungry and said she would go out to buy her a bowl of oatmeal and be right back.
As her mother left, she stood at the door of the ward and looked back at her deeply, with tears in her eyes. In the dream, her mother's appearance was already very blurry. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn't see her mother's face clearly!
Later, Joshua came to the hospital and said to her, "I am your father. From now on, your last name will be Galatea. Do you understand? Let's go, and you're coming home with me."
She was too young then to know what her last name was before or if it was her mother's surname.
She only remembered that her mother would always call her Laura gently. Her nickname was Laura, and that day, she learned Joshua was from the Galatea family, so she became Laura Galatea.
Later, the master gave her a new name, Katherine.
The master also warned her never to easily give her heart to others, to learn to protect herself, and not to expose her most vulnerable parts easily.
Since then, her name had always been Katherine.
And the master was a rare warmth in her otherwise despised childhood. The dream was like an endless maze, with no exit in sight, no matter how hard she tried to run.
In the maze, she sometimes saw the master's shadow, who looked at her with compassion and said, "Katherine, you must be very careful in Janetrick; never trust others easily, especially men."
Sometimes she saw her mother's shadow, smiling at her gently. "Laura, Mommy is going to buy you a bowl of oatmeal; I'll be back soon."
She could see them, but she couldn't reach them.
The master's shadow disappeared, and her mother's shadow also turned and walked away quickly.
She panicked, chasing after her mother, wanting to go with her, but just as she was about to reach her, she suddenly fell into a dry well!
The light gradually disappeared, and when she looked up, someone was blocking the well with stones.
Soon, the bottom of the well was plunged into pitch darkness, and her desperate cries for help couldn't be heard!
Worse still, water started to rise in the dry well, and the water level kept rising until it submerged her. She tried to climb the well walls to escape, but she couldn't get up!
Drowning, suffocating, on the brink of death...
Katherine suddenly woke up; the dimly lit room was warm and quiet, and nothing had happened.
It was just a dream!
Before Katherine could even breathe a sigh of relief, she felt a taste of some high-end tobacco lingering in her mouth.
Strange, she never smoked, so why was there a cigarette taste in her mouth?
Katherine frowned, realizing that two rough fingers were pinching her chin and someone was nibbling, biting, piercing, and devouring her lips.
By the moonlight streaming in from the window, she finally saw the face of the man close to her—it was Alex!
Alex... was he stealing a kiss from her?!
