Chapter 575 Are You Going or Not?

Frank caught a look from Katherine and smirked. "Mrs. Melville, can't we just swing by to see you?"

Ambrosia chimed in, "It's been a few days. We're bored out of our minds and just wanna hang out with you!"

They both skillfully dodged mentioning Katherine directly.

Katherine, sounding a bit aloof, replied, "I'm pretty bored too. You guys came at the perfect time. We can play some Cassino later to kill time."

Frank grinned. "Sounds good!"

Teresa jumped in, "Awesome! Mr. Perez gave me half a day off, so I can finally learn how to play Cassino!"

Just then, Sandra walked out of the kitchen with two maids. "Katherine, I heard you have friends over, so I whipped up some desserts for them! Let them have a taste!"

Katherine, who usually respected Sandra, surprisingly ignored her this time.

Teresa stood up. "Thanks, Sandra!"

Sandra gave Teresa a warm smile. "Teresa? It's been ages since you last came by. I almost didn't recognize you! You're looking prettier!"

Teresa felt a bit shy from Sandra's compliment and mumbled a few words of thanks.

Frank and Ambrosia also greeted Sandra.

Sandra was polite to Frank and Ambrosia, even though she had never met them before, there was a hint of caution in her eyes. "You must be Katherine's friends, right? Don't mind the security check. Alex is just super protective of Katherine and wants to make sure she's safe, so he has all visitors go through it. It's nothing personal!"

Frank smiled. "No worries, we get it."

Ambrosia stayed quiet.

After signaling the maids to set down the desserts, Sandra sat next to Katherine and Charles.

Once Sandra sat down, Teresa, Frank, and Ambrosia also took their seats. "Come on, try the desserts I made and let me know what you think!" Sandra invited them again, then handed Katherine a cookie of her favorite flavor, "Katherine, this is your favorite cookie. I made extra just for you!"

Katherine politely but coldly declined, "Thanks, but I'm not in the mood for sweets right now."

Sandra's hand paused for a moment, but she didn't get upset. She then handed the cookie to Charles, who was sitting next to Katherine, "Try the cookie I made!"

Kids can't resist sweets, so Charles took it and started munching.

Katherine glanced at Charles but didn't say anything.

With Sandra around, the young folks found it hard to chat freely and went quiet.

Usually, Sandra wouldn't meddle in Katherine's business and would head back to her room after delivering the desserts. But with two strangers she had never met, Sandra didn't feel comfortable leaving Katherine alone.

Sandra knew her presence made things awkward, but she had no plans to leave. She took a sip of water from the table. "I heard you were gonna play Cassino? I love it but rarely have anyone to play with. Mind if I join you later?"

Katherine kept her poker face and stayed quiet.

Teresa awkwardly laughed, "Sure! I don't know how to play, so you can teach me!"

Sandra beamed, "No problem, I'll make sure you get the hang of it today! So, when do we start?"

The group exchanged glances.

Finally, Katherine spoke up, "Let's start after lunch. Can't have my friends come all this way and play Cassino on an empty stomach!"

Sandra picked up on Katherine's tone and awkwardly smiled to smooth things over. "Right, we'll play after lunch. Katherine, don't worry, I wouldn't let your friends go hungry!"

Katherine smirked. "Really? I thought the Melville family didn't care about anything!"

Sandra, still smiling kindly, stood up. "You all chat for a bit. I'll head to the kitchen and whip up lunch myself. It's a special occasion, so try my cooking!"

Teresa politely stood up. "Sandra, let me help you!"

Sandra waved her off with a smile. "No need, Teresa! You stay here and chat with them!"

With that, Sandra, supported by a maid, headed to the kitchen. As she passed by Anton, she gave him a meaningful look.

Anton got the message, nodded, and moved to stand behind Katherine.

With Sandra gone and Anton now keeping an eye on them, the group still didn't feel free to talk and just made small talk.

After thinking for a moment, Katherine whispered something to Charles.

Charles hopped off the sofa, grabbed a cup from the table, and ran off.

Katherine turned to Anton. "Anton, I have friends here and can't leave. Can you please go check on Charles? Make sure he doesn't break the cup and hurt himself, or it'll be hard to explain later."

Anton looked torn, glancing between Katherine and Charles, who was running off with the cup.

A maid was already chasing after Charles, so Anton decided to stay put. "Mrs. Melville, someone is already watching Charles. No need to worry."

Katherine's eyes narrowed slightly. "So, you're saying that to eavesdrop on me and my friends, you're willing to ignore Charles's safety?"

Anton looked embarrassed. "Mrs. Melville, how could I dare to eavesdrop on you and your friends? I'm just here in case you need anything, to make sure your friends are well taken care of."

Katherine said, annoyed, "If you were really concerned about my friends, you wouldn't have put them through a security check in the first place."

Anton replied, "The security check is Mr. Melville's order."

Katherine waved her hand dismissively. "Alright, no need to explain! Just go watch Charles. Are you going or not?"
