Chapter 88 She's Married, I'm Her Husband

Katherine snapped back to reality and turned around, only to see Alex standing behind her with a dark and unreadable expression.

A strong chill ran down Katherine's spine, and she instinctively hung up the phone.

"… It's nothing, I was just calling a friend," She replied nonchalantly, slipping her phone into her pocket as naturally as possible.

Alex raised his hand, extending his long and clean palm in front of her. "Give me your phone."

Alex clearly intended to confiscate the phone.

Katherine was taken aback and frowned in displeasure, finding Alex's behavior inexplicable. Not wanting to argue with him here, she thought for a moment and then handed him the phone.

Alex took the phone and saw it was locked. He coldly said, "Password."

Katherine refused. "Alex, this is my privacy. I have the right not to tell you."

Alex narrowed his eyes and inquired, "What are you hiding?"

Katherine retorted confidently, "I'm not hiding anything!"

Alex raised the phone threateningly and intensified his tone, urging, "If you're not hiding anything, then tell me the password."

Who suddenly demands to check someone else's phone with such an entitled attitude?

Alex was so unpredictable. Did he think he was God?

Katherine was really fed up with Alex's overbearing nature. She stubbornly glared at him and said, "I'm not telling you!"

Alex's jaw tightened, and his patience was running thin. He rarely encountered people he couldn't control, especially women.

But Katherine clearly didn't take him seriously.

Although Katherine sometimes appeared weak and obedient, it was only to avoid trouble and save time.

Most of the time, her eyes were empty, devoid of any obedience, fear, or even the slightest bit of concern for him.

However, because Katherine usually compromised to keep the peace, her firm refusal this time seemed particularly unusual and glaring.

What was on her phone? Why was she so afraid of him seeing it?

The more she acted this way, the more Alex wanted to see who Katherine was calling so secretively.

"Katherine, I'll ask you one more time. What's the password?" Alex tilted her chin up, almost forcing her to answer.

Katherine was forced to look up, still not giving in. Pushed to the limit by Alex, she even provocatively curled her lips. "Alex, why don't you guess? If you guess right, I'll tell you!"

The veins on Alex's forehead bulged. He almost wanted to strangle her.

At that moment, the phone suddenly rang. It was Frank calling back.

Katherine was startled and immediately reached out to grab it.

Alex extended his arm upward, and she couldn't reach it no matter what.

Katherine frowned and snapped, "Alex, give me my phone!"

Alex shot her a cold glance, held the phone high, and, with a slide of his long and  distinct fingers, answered the call on speaker.

Frank's gentle voice came through. "Ms. Galatea, why did you hang up without saying anything earlier?"

Katherine fell silent.

Alex looked at the guilty-faced Katherine with dark eyes, and then refuted, "Is this the 'friend' you were talking about?"

Katherine thought, 'Frank is indeed my friend and subordinate, but it's just inconvenient to tell you.'

Fortunately, she hadn't saved Frank's number. She always memorized Frank's and Ambrosia's numbers. As long as Frank didn't say anything out of line, Alex wouldn't find out that they had known each other for a long time.

"Ms. Galatea, why aren't you speaking? Where are you? Do you want me to come find you right now?" Frank asked eagerly over the phone.

Alex narrowed his slender shape and handsome eyes, slowly lowering his raised arm and bringing the phone to his lips. He coldly said, "Katherine is already married."

Alex's tone was calm, yet it was like a sudden clap of thunder. It was filled with a strong sense of possessiveness, declaring his sovereignty unyieldingly.

On the other end, Frank was shocked. "What? Who are you?"

Alex coldly replied with two words, "Her husband."

On the phone, Frank was silent for a moment, and then switched to a tone that sounded very hurt as he spoke. "No, that's impossible. I don't believe it! Ms. Galatea, I want to hear it from you."

Before Frank could finish, Alex pressed the hang-up button, ending the call.

Alex's face darkened as he tossed the phone back to Katherine without any gentleness, sarcastically saying, "I didn't know Ms. Galatea was so impatient. You couldn't wait to call him back?"

Katherine forced a smile. "It's not what you think. When we were downstairs at Crescent Group, Mr. Perez said some strange things to me. I didn't understand what he meant, so I wanted to call back and see if there was some misunderstanding."

Alex's lips curled into a sinister smile. "A man publicly declares he's fallen in love with you at first sight, and you don't understand what that means? Do you need to call back to confirm? You claim that you have no other intentions, and you think I'll believe that? Why don't you be honest with me? Are you looking to develop something with him or confirm your relationship right away?"

Katherine felt wronged and retorted, "I'm not. I didn't..."

Alex's rough hand tightened around her jaw, forcing her face up another notch, saying, "Katherine, how many times do I need to remind you? You are now my Mrs. Melville. I forbid you from having private interactions with other men."

Katherine was in pain from Alex's grip, but she couldn't break free from his stronghold. She frowned in frustration and reprimanded, "Alex, you're overthinking this. I'm not that kind of person. Besides, we're not a real couple. You forcibly checking my phone and answering my calls are a serious invasion of my privacy. Even if we were truly married, if you keep being this suspicious, we'd still end up divorced."

Alex was so angry that he laughed.

Katherine felt like her jawbone was about to be crushed by Alex and remarked, "It hurts..."

Alex's pupils trembled, and he frowned, releasing her.

Katherine rubbed her sore face, thinking that she shouldn't make things too tense with Alex. After all, they still had over two months of frequent interactions ahead, and  she wouldn’t able to avoid it.

Moreover, Sherry was still waiting to have lunch with Alex. If he didn't calm down and go back for lunch, Sherry might notice something.

"Fine, Alex, I admit it was my fault. I'm sorry," Katherine lowered her head, reluctantly compromising.

Alex paused, looking at her pitiful expression, and half of his anger dissipated. "Where did you go wrong?"

Katherine pouted, "I was wrong to call him now. I should have waited three months to make that call. By then, I wouldn't be Mrs. Melville anymore, and you wouldn't have any say over me!"

Alex's face, which had just softened, darkened again.
