Chapter 260 Alex Reappears
"Katherine, it's really you!" Jonathan shouted.
When Katherine saw Jonathan's devilishly handsome face, she froze for a moment, then sighed in relief. "It's you!"
Jonathan grinned. "What's wrong? Who did you think it was?"
"Nothing, you just scared me," replied Katherine.
What was she so scared of? Did she thinan pretended to bek Alex would come back for her?
She was overthinking it!
Jonathan, still smiling, walked over to her. "Katherine, remember the last time we met? I asked when we'd see each other again, and you said it depended on fate. Well, here we are. Isn't that fate?"
Katherine forced a smile. "Quite a coincidence."
Jonathan pretended to be upset and furrowed his brows. "Such a lukewarm response! Aren't you happy to see me?"
Katherine yawned. "Do I need to be?"
Jonathan sighed, then leaned in closer. "But seeing you makes my day!"
Despite Jonathan's close proximity and his devilishly handsome face, Katherine remained composed. "Really?"
Jonathan's enchanting eyes locked onto hers for a full half-minute, but she didn't budge.
He sighed but kept smiling. "Katherine, you always dressed casually before. This is the first time I've seen you so dressed up. You look beautiful."
"Thanks," replied she.
Katherine walked downstairs, scanning the room. The banquet hall was packed; every sofa and seat was taken by people chatting in groups.
She didn't want to sit somewhere and interrupt or become the topic of their conversations.
As she walked, Jonathan followed her with a relaxed smile.
Katherine turned to him. "Mr. Mostow, have you seen Bernard?"
Jonathan raised an eyebrow. "Why, do you need something from Bernard?"
Katherine replied, "No, he's my boss now. I'm his secretary, and I came with him today."
Jonathan looked surprised. "Katherine, when did you become Bernard's secretary?"
Katherine said, "Just a few days ago."
"Is it for Lotus's painting?" Jonathan asked, looking at her meaningfully.
With Jonathan having already disclosed the link between Lotus and Bernard, Katherine saw no reason to conceal her purpose for joining the Mitchell Group from him. She couldn't hide it anyway.
Katherine responded, "That's right! I hope you won't mention this to Mr. Mitchell."
"Of course, I won't." Jonathan smiled.
"Thanks, Mr. Mostow!" said she.
He replied, "Call me Jonathan! 'Mr. Mostow' sounds so distant!"
Katherine thought about it and, since Jonathan had given her accurate information, she agreed. "Alright! Thank you, Jonathan."
Being called "Jonathan" by her momentarily stunned him.
Then, he smiled contentedly. "You're welcome, Katherine. I just finished work and rushed over. Hilton just called me; they're drinking in a private room in the lounge. I think Bernard might be with them. Want to come with me to find your boss?"
Mr. Mitchell might be with Hilton and the others, and Alex had just confirmed he had left, so she wouldn't run into him again.
With that in mind, Katherine nodded. "Alright, let's go!"
The private room in the lounge at Moonlight Manor was in a small villa within the estate, far from the banquet hall, quiet and serene.
Katherine followed Jonathan into the private room and saw three men sitting around playing cards.
Jonathan asked with a smile, "What are you guys playing?"
"Jonathan, perfect timing. Join us for the next round!" Hilton said, looking up from his cards. He noticed Katherine beside Jonathan and squinted in disbelief. "Jonathan, your lady friend looks familiar!"
Jonathan smiled and explained, "Don't get the wrong idea. This is my secretary, Angie. Katherine is here with Bernard. I ran into her looking for him, so I brought her over."
Hilton looked even more puzzled and turned to Bernard. "Bernard, she's looking for you?"
"Yes, Ms. Galatea is now my secretary," Bernard replied calmly.
After escaping from the Melville family, Katherine reappeared as Bernard's secretary? Interesting! Hilton stared at Katherine, then gestured towards the floor-to-ceiling window. "Alex, a friend of yours is here. Aren't you coming over to catch up?"
Hearing Hilton's words, Katherine's calm face suddenly froze. Alex hadn't left?
She turned her head and saw Alex lazily leaning on a rattan chair by the window, holding a cigarette. Amidst the smoke, he looked like a cold sculpture, squinting at them.
He hadn't joined the card game; he hadn't left Moonlight Manor!
As Katherine snapped out of her thoughts, she found herself seated beside Jonathan.
Seated on the sofa, she watched the men play cards, aware of a cold gaze fixed on her from across the room.
She felt like she was sitting on pins and needles, extremely uncomfortable.
Moreover, she was genuinely tired. Pregnancy made her easily fatigued, and with an injury on her leg, she felt very uncomfortable.
Jonathan noticed her discomfort and asked soflty, "Katherine, are you alright?"
Katherine shook her head and replied, "No, I'm just a bit thirsty."
Jonathan immediately got up and poured her a glass of water. "Here."
Katherine took the glass. "Thank you."
Jonathan was very considerate; the water was warm.
After drinking half a glass of warm water, she felt slightly better.
After sitting down again, Jonathan suddenly leaned close to her ear and whispered, "If you're feeling unwell, I can take you home first. I remember today should be your period. Are you uncomfortable because of that?"
Jonathan's words caught Katherine off guard.
She wasn't embarrassed; having her period was normal. She frowned at the devilishly handsome man beside her, finding his memory surprising. "How do you know about my period?"
Jonathan chuckled softly and whispered, "Did you forget? The first time you came to my gallery, you were uncomfortable because of your period. That was exactly four months ago."
