Chapter 219 Are You Hiding Something?
"What are you thinking about?" Alex asked.
Katherine snapped back to reality as Alex lightly brushed her nose with his cool fingers.
He bent down to make eye contact with her as she sat on the edge of the bed and said gently, "No one was watching the barbecue, and it got burnt. I had someone make some more for you, and it’ll be here soon."
Katherine didn't care about the barbecue anymore; Sunny's chicken wings had almost filled her up.
Her eyes sparkled mischievously as she raised an eyebrow and asked, "Alex, are you hiding any personal issues from me?"
Alex paused slightly, then knelt in front of her, looking sincerely into her eyes and shaking his head. "I wouldn't."
"That's good!" Katherine said.
Katherine didn't press further.
She hadn't taken Scarlett's far-fetched words to heart. If Scarlett hadn't smiled at her so strangely earlier, she would have forgotten about the child rumor altogether.
In the two months she had spent with Alex, she might not know everything about him, but she trusted his character.
Alex wasn't the type to shirk responsibility!
Moreover, if Scarlett really had a child with Alex, she would have used the child to pressure the Melville family into letting her marry. She wouldn't have kept it hidden.
Alex asked with a deep gaze, "Why did you suddenly ask that?"
Katherine shook her head lightly and replied, "It's nothing; I was just asking! By the way, Sunny's grilled chicken wings are pretty good. Want to try some?"
As she spoke, she picked up a skewer of wings from the plate on the nightstand and brought it to his mouth.
Alex smiled, took a bite, and said, "It's really good. If you like it, eat more. Once you're full, we'll head home."
Katherine nodded softly.
"Take your time," he remarked.
Alex gently rubbed Katherine's head, feeling a wave of tenderness. He had planned to take her out for some fun, but things went wrong, and she ended up falling into the water and catching a cold.
Ultimately, it was his fault for not taking good care of her. He vowed it would never happen again.
They returned to Melville Manor late at night.
Alex escorted Katherine to the bedroom door and said, "Katherine, I have to go abroad tomorrow. While I'm away,stay home and take care of yourself. Don't go running around and make me worry."
Katherine asked, "How long will you be gone?"
Alex replied, "About two weeks."
Katherine furrowed her brows and questioned, "What could take you so long?"
Alex squinted his eyes with a hint of a smile. "What, are you going to miss me? How about a goodbye kiss?"
He bent down, deliberately tilting his head to offer one side of his face to her.
Katherine forced a smile, lightly patted him, and playfully said, "I wish you a safe trip, good night!"
With that, she turned and went into the bedroom, locking the door behind her!
Alex was both amused and exasperated. Coward, not even giving a goodbye kiss!
During the half-month Alex was away, Katherine focused on the architectural design for the Melville Group Tower.
Last time, Alex rejected her design, saying she needed to put in more effort.
This time, she racked her brain for a creative idea and finalized the draft before he returned. She sent the final version to his email and waited for a response.
There shouldn't be any issues this time.
With the design done, she could finally give her mind a rest.
Katherine opened her phone, intending to play a game to relax, but she accidentally noticed the date.
Today marked the end of her three-month collaboration with him!
Time had flown by faster than she expected.
Her relationship with Alex was a bit complicated now.
If he hadn't later expressed a desire to date her seriously, or if she hadn't agreed to consider it, she would probably be packing her bags and leaving the Melville family by now!
She had been looking forward to this day, but now she didn't feel like leaving so much.
Recently, even though Alex was abroad, he called her every night for a video chat. They would talk a bit and say goodnight.

The screen showed 99+ unread messages from Sherry's overly-posed selfie as the profile picture.
Katherine raised an eyebrow as she opened Sherry's profile, scanning through the unread messages filled with vile and obscene language.
Ever since Sherry and the Galateas come to Melville Manor and were kicked out, Sherry had held a grudge. She sent Katherine nasty, insulting messages every day, as vile as they could get.
Sometimes, Katherine would open them and chuckle at Sherry's furious outbursts.
But she ignored them most of the time because she didn't have time to deal with the Galatea family.
Today, with nothing else to do, she decided it was time to settle things with the Galatea family once and for all!
Katherine returned to the neglected Galatea family villa and rang the doorbell confidently.
Sherry, wearing a protective face mask, came to open the door.
Upon seeing Katherine, Sherry's eyes immediately filled with malice as she said sarcastically, "Well, look who it is! Isn't it Katherine who married into the Melville family? What are you doing back at the Galatea family? Don't tell me the Melville family has already kicked you out?"
Katherine remained calm, smiling faintly. "I'm just here to take what's mine."
Sherry frowned, gritting her teeth in disgust. "Take what's yours? Katherine, you have the nerve to say that! What could you possibly have here at the Galatea family? Those worthless things in the attic? I threw them out as trash long ago! What else do you want to take?
Dad raised you. Now that you're married into a wealthy family, you've forgotten your roots and even stole the man who should have been mine! How did the Galatea family end up raising such a shameless person like you? Katherine, get out! You ungrateful bitch! We want nothing to do with you!"
