Chapter 1000 A Hasty Marriage
After she finished speaking, silence hung in the air for a long time, then Bernard's cold snort broke the silence. "I remember you promised not to have any contact with other men, didn't you? Who allowed you to shoot an ad for his company?"
Bernard blocked all of Christina's attempts to explain. She could clarify that nothing happened between her and Ruben, but she couldn't explain why she saw Ruben after promising Bernard she wouldn't.
"I'm sorry, I should have told you beforehand. I was afraid you'd be angry."
Christina knew that no matter how she explained, it wouldn't change the fact that she lied. The best attitude was to admit her mistake.
Her hand slowly loosened, and she sighed deeply. "Bernard, I shouldn't have lied to you, but I hope you can give me a chance to explain."
Bernard hated being lied to the most. He had given Christina two chances, but she chose to lie both times. And now she wanted Bernard to believe her?
Originally, Bernard didn't plan to give Christina any more chances, but when he heard her say "I'm sorry," he couldn't help but soften.
Although Bernard didn't say anything, the fact that he stopped and didn't leave was the best opportunity she could get.
Christina seized the opportunity and quickly explained. "Bernard, I told you before, I scratched Cheryl's face in a fit of anger. Because of that, Ruben's company couldn't continue shooting the ad and had to pay a lot of compensation. Ruben told me that I somewhat resemble Cheryl and asked me to help by being the spokesperson for the ad. He said it would make up for the mistake I made."
Bernard's eyes darkened upon hearing this.
"He asked you to go, and you just agreed?"
Christina walked up to him. "I hesitated too, but I really felt responsible for that incident and didn't want to owe anyone. I thought it would just be a day or two of shooting an ad, and nothing would happen. I didn't expect it to turn out like this."
Seeing her regretful expression, Bernard's brows furrowed even more. "What about the photos in the news? You two looked so intimate; what were you doing?"
"No, no, Ruben and I really didn't do anything!" Compared to those photos and videos, Christina's explanation seemed particularly weak.
She looked at Bernard, extremely troubled about how to prove her innocence.
Suddenly, a thought flashed through her mind, and Christina finally came up with a solution. "I have a way to prove my innocence, but I need to go see Ruben again!"
Bernard's face darkened even more, "You still want to see him now?"
Christina was afraid he would misunderstand again and quickly explained. "No, no, not to see him. To prove my innocence, I need his help. Bernard, if you don't trust me, you can have someone accompany me tomorrow."
Bernard looked at her coldly for a long time before speaking again, "Christina, you better be able to prove your innocence!"
Christina nodded seriously. "Don't worry, I will prove my innocence!"
Christina didn't sleep well all night.
She deeply regretted lying to Bernard, which made him completely distrust her now!
However, it was clear that someone had deliberately taken those photos and posted them online. Who could it be?
After a sleepless night, Christina got up with dark circles under her eyes, washed up, and tried to wake herself up.
As she was about to leave the house, Hellen called out to her. "Christina, come here for a moment."
Christina had a bad feeling and followed Hellen to the garden to sit down. "Mrs. Mitchell, do you need something?"
"It's not a big deal." Hellen took out her phone and placed it in front of Christina, "I saw some bad news online and wanted to ask you about it."
Sure enough, despite Bernard having cleaned up the news, Hellen still saw it.
"Mrs. Mitchell, I'm sorry, I've caused trouble for the Mitchell family again."
Hellen smiled and took a sip of coffee. "Silly girl, I'm not here to blame you. You're part of the Mitchell family, and your concerns are the family's concerns. But some people have been asking me about these things, and I don't know how to respond."
Christina didn't expect Hellen not to blame her and even say she was part of the Mitchell family. This made her very touched and even more guilty.
Hellen treated her so well, yet she caused so much trouble.
"Mrs. Mitchell, things aren't like what the internet says. Those photos were deliberately taken out of context. The man in the photos is my senior, Ruben. We're just friends, nothing more."
Christina knew her explanation seemed weak, but it was all she could do now. She just hoped Hellen would believe her.
"Mrs. Mitchell, I have a way to clear things up. Please wait for me to come back."
Instead of giving such a weak explanation, Christina decided to quickly find evidence to prove her innocence.
She hurriedly got up and ran out the door, getting into the car Bernard had arranged for her. "Billy, take me to the Rojas Group."
Billy replied, "Ms. Russell, Mr. Mitchell instructed me to take you somewhere else first."
Christina was puzzled, "Where to?"
Billy didn't answer and just started driving. Twenty minutes later, he stopped the car in front of the city hall, "Ms. Russell, Mr. Mitchell is waiting for you inside."
Christina nodded in surprise and obediently took her documents from Billy, walking in alone.
Although they had signed a contract earlier, they hadn't officially gotten married yet.
She didn't expect he would choose today!
The marriage process was simple, and within half an hour, they were done.
Christina looked at the marriage documents in her hand, feeling a bit dazed but more aware of the reality. "Bernard, can Billy take me to the Rojas Group now?"
"Yes." Bernard responded, handing his marriage documents to Christina, "Keep these safe."
Christina took them and put them together with her documents, then returned to the car with Billy to head to the Rojas Group.
At the entrance of the Rojas Group, Christina contacted the staff who had previously received her. The staff quickly came downstairs. "Ms. Russell, come with me."
"This is my friend. Can he come with us?" Christina pointed to Billy beside her.
Billy was a bit surprised that she introduced them as friends.
The staff nodded and led them upstairs, explaining as they walked. "We were all surprised by the news. Mr. Rojas is already investigating."
Christina asked, "Is the location where we shot the outdoor scenes also owned by the Rojas Group?"
The staff nodded. "There's another building next to it that also belongs to the Rojas Group. This whole area does."
