Chapter 357 Charles Awake?!
Bernard agreed to let Katherine try to save Charles but kept a close watch on her.
He stood aside, instructing a servant to record everything on the phone. When the police arrived, the video would be handed over to prevent Katherine from dodging responsibility.
Charles was already laid flat. Katherine squatted down, checked his eyelids, and carefully performed basic rescue measures.
Scarlett leaned weakly against Bernard, crying and looking worried.
In reality, she didn't care about the child's life or death; it was all an act for Bernard and Alex.
Bernard felt sorry for her, comforting her quietly. Alex, however, never looked her way.
Scarlett stole a glance at Alex, longing for him.
Alex stood by Katherine, straight as a board, hands in his pockets, watching her perform CPR on the 'corpse.'
He seemed like the hero of the world, yet here he was, a guardian silently supporting her.
Scarlett found the scene unbearable.
She used to think that if Katherine was out of the picture, Alex would be hers.
But now she realized that as long as Katherine existed, Alex would never see her.
So, Katherine had to go.
At that moment, Billy returned with a small medicine bottle. "Ms. Galatea, here's the Heal Guard Balm you asked for."
Katherine quickly took the bottle and opened it.
Seeing the cheap medicine, Scarlett seized the moment, crying out angrily. "Katherine, you said you could save Charles, and you're using this cheap ointment? This is a joke! How can a bottle of cheap medicine save him?"
Tears streamed down her face as she turned to Bernard. "Bernard, I told you we shouldn't trust her! Charles has no breath, and she's using that cheap Heal Guard Balm. How can that bring him back to life?
Katherine is clearly tormenting Charles! He's already gone. Please don't let anyone torment him anymore."
Bernard frowned, uncomfortable seeing Scarlett so upset. He glared at Katherine. "Katherine, can you do it or not?"
Katherine just glanced at them indifferently and continued. She poured the powder from the bottle onto the wound on Charles' head.
Then she took out a small red pill from the bottle cap.
Most people didn't know the Heal Guard Balm bottle had this hidden item, which was exactly what she needed.
Katherine pried open Charles's mouth, placed the red pill inside, and asked for some water, slowly feeding it to him.
Everyone watched, confused, eyes glued to the ground, waiting for any sign of life.
But after a while, Charles remained motionless, like a dead person.
Hopeful eyes turned to disappointment, and some even looked angry, feeling duped.
The servants started grumbling.
"Not a single movement. How's this supposed to work?"
"Trusting her was a mistake!"
"He has no breath. A random pill can't bring him back. If it could, hospitals would be out of business!"
"Exactly! Mr. Mitchell gave her a chance, and she's mocking the Mitchell family!"
Bernard's face darkened. He squinted at Katherine, wondering if she'd feel ashamed.
Scarlett, seeing the outcome she wanted, secretly smiled and then cried out.
"Katherine, haven't you done enough? My Charles is gone, and you're still tormenting him! If you have any issues, take them out on me, okay? Please don't torment my child anymore!"
Katherine didn't respond; she just frowned deeply, staring at Charles, hoping he'd come back. She didn't want to give up, so she pinched his philtrum.
Ignoring Scarlett, Katherine stayed focused. Scarlett seized the moment, lunging at her, grabbing and shaking her, pleading, "Katherine, please let my child go, okay? I'll kneel if I have to!"
Alex immediately stepped in, pulling Scarlett up. "Calm down!"
Touched by Alex, Scarlett fell into his arms, tears streaming as she looked at him.
"Alex, are you just going to watch Katherine torment Charles? He may not be our biological son, but he saw us as his parents! Have you forgotten how he called you dad? Are you so focused on Katherine that you don't care about Charles?"
Alex frowned, eyes dark. After a moment, he pushed Scarlett away, helping her stand before letting go. "Calm down; it's not over yet."
Scarlett, heartbroken, cried out. "Alex... what do you mean it's not over? Charles is dead! As his guardian, his father, shouldn't you seek justice for him? Why are you siding with his killer?"
Bernard stepped forward to support Scarlett, snorting. "Scarlett, forget it. Don't expect this man to have a conscience! He can ignore the fact that you saved his life, let alone an adopted child!"
Alex's expression was complex, his sharp eyes glaring at Bernard.
The atmosphere was tense and oppressive.
Then, a child's coughing sound suddenly broke the silence!
The tense standoff between the two men was interrupted.
The murmurs of the onlookers ceased, and everyone immediately looked at Charles on the ground!
The child, who had stopped breathing, was now frowning in pain, coughing intermittently.
He woke up!
He actually woke up?!
