Chapter 914 Reunion After a Long Separation
When Katherine was about to knock on the door, it suddenly opened from the inside.
Several men in black suits came out holding some daily necessities, looking like they were here to discharge someone.
Katherine double-checked the room number to confirm it matched what Ambrosia had told her, then asked one of the men in black, "Excuse me, is the patient in this room being discharged?"
The man in black looked at her warily, "Who are you? Why are you asking?"
Katherine replied, "I'm here to visit the patient in this room."
The man in black said rudely, "You can't just visit this patient! Without authorization from Mrs. Coleman or Ms. Coleman, no one is allowed in."
Katherine immediately understood, "I know Mrs. Coleman and Ms. Coleman. Go tell Mrs. Coleman that Katherine Galatea is here; she'll definitely let me in."
Katherine Galatea? The man in black had heard this name before, especially during recent arguments between Sophia and Brent.
Was she the Katherine who upset Sophia? The man in black sized Katherine up and down, then considered for a moment, "Wait here!"
After saying this gruffly, the man in black turned around and went inside to ask for instructions.
In less than ten seconds, Nora and Linda came out personally!
"Katherine, what brings you here?"
"Katherine, you're here!"
Katherine looked at the mother and daughter and asked, "Madam, the person you wanted to introduce to me the other day is in this room, right?"
At this point, Nora felt there was no need to hide it anymore and nodded, "Yes, she's inside. Do you want to go in and see her?"
Katherine nodded as well.
"Katherine, come with me! Claire has been thinking about you!" Linda eagerly grabbed Katherine's hand and led her into the room.
For some reason, even though she really wanted to see her, Katherine found it hard to take the final step. She didn't know what she was afraid of, and let Linda pull her forward like a child.
Soon, Katherine stood in the room and saw the pale but gentle and serene woman on the bed.
There was a certain connection between mother and daughter; without any need for confirmation, Katherine knew this beautiful woman was her mother!
Claire didn't know who had come. She was quietly looking out the window, lost in thought.
Suddenly, feeling a warm gaze on her, she turned her head!
Seeing Katherine, her expression froze, and then her eyes reddened!
"Luara."
Katherine had almost forgotten this name. Hearing Claire call her that brought back many long-buried memories.
She walked to the bedside, looking at her mother, not knowing what to do or say.
Linda, being very perceptive, pushed a chair over to Katherine and then pulled her to sit down, "Katherine, sit here and talk to Claire slowly. Mom and I are going out to buy some things!"
With that, Linda bounced out, holding Nora's hand.
The room was left with just Katherine and Claire, staring at each other.
Claire was the first to speak, smiling gently, "Luara, you probably... don't remember me, do you?"
Katherine just looked at Claire without speaking.
Claire sighed in guilt, "It's my fault. I left you to wander alone for so many years. I'm sorry I only found you now."
Seeing Claire's tears fall, Katherine's eyes also reddened. She stared at the bandaged wound on Claire's forearm and asked, "How did you get hurt? Is it serious?"
Claire was taken aback, looked down at her wound, and shook her head, "It's nothing, not serious at all!"
Katherine looked up into Claire's eyes, feeling a complex mix of emotions. She was no longer a child and couldn't just throw herself into Claire's arms.
"The other day, when Mrs. Coleman asked me to meet you, why didn't you show up? Were you avoiding me?" Katherine's voice trembled slightly.
Claire quickly shook her head, "No, no! Luara, how could I avoid you? I felt ashamed to see you. I didn't do what a mother should do and didn't know how to face you!"
Katherine's eyes reddened even more, "Back then, why did you leave me alone? Why didn't you come back for me? I was always... always waiting for you!"
Claire's tears flowed continuously, "I didn't do it on purpose. Back then, someone was trying to kill me. I thought it was too dangerous to keep you with me, so I temporarily entrusted you to Joshua for safety. Later, I went to find you! I really did! But Joshua told me you had died and gave me a box of ashes. I thought... I thought you were gone."
Katherine knew it. She knew she wasn't an abandoned child, that Claire wouldn't leave her!
All these years, she never believed she was abandoned and never gave up looking for Claire!
Today, finally, she saw Claire!
Having gotten her answer, Katherine awkwardly held Claire's hand, "Back then, who was trying to kill you?"
Facing this question, Claire's face turned even paler, seemingly very evasive.
Katherine had a hunch, "It was the Mitchell family, right? They wanted you dead?"
Claire's eyes filled with bloodshot, choking up, "Luara, actually, the Mitchell family was targeting me, not you. Don't hate them."
Katherine tightly gripped Claire's hand, "At this point, does it matter if they were targeting you or me? They are the reason we were separated!"
Claire took a deep breath, "I don't want to judge others, but your brother Bernard is different. He cares about you."
Katherine snorted coldly, "To me, it makes no difference."
Claire didn't want to pass the grudges of the previous generation onto them, "Luara, your brother was just a child back then. His abilities were limited; we can't blame him."
Katherine looked at Claire, "You don't want me to settle the score with the Mitchell family?"
Claire smiled bitterly, "Settle what score? So many years have passed, I don't want to bring it up again! I came back this time because Nora told me she saw someone who looked like my daughter! Now that I've found you, I'll leave again. Let the past stay in the past!"
Katherine frowned, "Leave again? You're... leaving me again?"
