Chapter 718 The Eternal Backup

"Don't worry. I won't bother you anymore in the future!" Sunny said seriously, clenching his fists tightly as if he had made a big decision.

Ambrosia's face remained impassive. After a long pause, she slightly curled her lips and said, "That's good."

Without another word, she turned and walked back to Katherine's hospital room.

Sunny's tightly clenched fists slowly relaxed, his determination deflating like a balloon.

Bernard returned, saw Sunny sitting at the doorway, and walked over with a serious expression to ask, "What are you doing here?"

Hearing Bernard's voice, Sunny looked up.

Sunny replied listlessly, "I heard Katherine was about to give birth after I got home, so I came to see her."

Bernard frowned, worried that he might cause trouble here, and said, "So you done? Now go back to pack your bags; I'll have Billy take you abroad next week."

Sunny nodded, then looked at Katherine's hospital room with a complicated expression, got up, and walked away dejectedly.

After arranging for Sunny to leave, Bernard pushed open the door to Katherine's hospital room.

Seeing Bernard come in, Ambrosia looked at Katherine, who was frowning even in her sleep, and confirmed she was still asleep before asking, "Mr. Mitchell, any news about Alex?"

Bernard's expression was grim as he shook his head. "No leads yet."

Ambrosia frowned, wondering where Alex could have taken the first child.

Bernard looked at the deeply sleeping Katherine with a pained expression, "Has she asked anything else?"

Ambrosia sighed and nodded. "She asked, but she seems to have sensed something and didn't press further."

Bernard's heart ached even more for Katherine, his face darkening with worry.

Originally, for Katherine's sake, he had planned to let go of the family feud, agree to the marriage, and accept Alex.

But this incident had completely shattered his trust in Alex.

When they find Alex this time, he would have to reconsider Katherine's future!

How could Katherine have a stable life with such an unreliable man?

Three days passed, and Katherine's condition had improved significantly; she could get out of bed and walk around.

But Alex still hadn't returned. His phone was unreachable, and he didn't respond to messages.

Katherine asked Bernard several times, but he always gave vague answers, saying Alex had important matters in Markovia and was safe but would be delayed in returning.

She didn't know what important matters Alex had that delayed him, nor did she care to understand. All she knew was that he had broken his promise again.

He had clearly promised to return in three days and even showed her the return ticket.

In the end, it was all just empty words!

Katherine only seemed spirited when looking at the children; most of the time, she quietly stared out the hospital window, lost in thought, speaking very little.

This morning, Bernard had come to see her and then left.

After lunch, Ambrosia went out to take a call, leaving Katherine alone in the room.

There was a knock on the door.

Katherine knew Ambrosia wouldn't knock when coming in, so a bit of anticipation lit up her dull eyes, and she said, "Come in!"

Then, Jonathan walked in with some expensive nutritional supplements, his naturally stern face softened by an elegant smile. "Katherine, long time no see! Congratulations on giving birth to two healthy babies."

Seeing it was Jonathan, the light in Katherine's eyes dimmed, and she faintly smiled. "Thanks."

Jonathan put the supplements aside, walked to the bedside, and explained, "I've been busy lately and thought your due date was still a bit away, so I didn't want to disturb you. When I finally had some free time, I called Bernard and heard you had already given birth, so I came right away!"

Putting aside other matters, Jonathan had always been very considerate of Katherine, and she nodded appreciatively. "You didn't have to go to so much trouble. There's no need to visit me specifically and buy such expensive things."

"How could I come empty-handed!" Jonathan smiled, then looked around and asked. "Where's Alex? Why isn't he here with you?"

Katherine remained silent.

Seeing her silence, Jonathan seemed to guess something. "Alex is really something. How could he miss such an important event as you giving birth?"

Katherine didn't want to talk about Alex now, as it would affect her mood.

"Mr. Mostow, there's some bottled water over there. Help yourself; I'm not in a position to entertain you right now," Katherine said.

Jonathan smiled. "It's okay. I'm not thirsty."

With nothing more to say, Katherine turned her head to look out the window at the blue sky, where a plane was slowly flying by, leaving a long contrail behind.

"Katherine, do you regret it?" Jonathan's gentle voice carried a hint of inquiry.

Katherine was slightly stunned and looked at him in surprise. "Regret what?"

Jonathan looked deeply into her eyes. "Regret choosing a man who doesn't value you? He wasn't even around when you gave birth."

Katherine frowned. "He's not as bad as you say! But yes, I am angry at him. When he comes back, I'll give him a piece of my mind!"

Jonathan sneered. "What if Alex doesn't come back?"

Katherine raised an eyebrow, "Why wouldn't he come back? His home is here. Even if not for me, he would definitely come back!"

Jonathan gave her a meaningful look. "Katherine, I won't judge your choice of Alex, but I'll say this: as long as you need me, I'll always be here. You can count on me as your steadfast support, ready to welcome you anytime."

Katherine found him quite exasperating and faintly smiled. "Don't you think it's a bit inappropriate to say such things to a woman who just gave birth?"

Jonathan chuckled. "I don't think so. I'm just trying to seize every opportunity to secure a chance for myself."

Jonathan was quite peculiar. While most men cared about a woman's romantic history when choosing a partner, Jonathan preferred her, who had already been married and had children.

What kind of preference was this?

At this moment, Ambrosia returned from her call, saw Jonathan in the room, and greeted him with a nod. She then turned to Katherine and said, "Katherine, the doctor said you're recovering well and can be discharged tomorrow."

Katherine responded with a hum, a trace of disappointment flashing in her eyes.

She was about to be discharged, yet Alex, who had promised to be with her in the delivery room, still hadn't returned.
