Chapter 544 Not Edible

When Katherine's phone buzzed, she was in the shower, soaking up the steam.

The phone, which had been dead all day, finally gave up and shut off after ringing for a bit.

After her shower, she dried her hair, plugged in her phone, didn't even bother to turn it on, and crashed into bed.

Next morning, after scarfing down breakfast, Katherine made up some excuse to keep Sandra chill and bounced out of the house.

Sandra was still kinda freaked about Katherine going solo, but knowing Leander was on his way to pick her up, she figured Alex had set up some protection, which calmed her down.

Since it was the weekend, Nathan was coming over to tutor Fiona. Fiona got up early, all excited, waiting for Nathan.

Fiona was worried about what Katherine was up to and wanted to tag along, but she didn't wanna miss Nathan. After a bit of back and forth and seeing Leander was picking up Katherine, she figured everything would be cool and decided to stay home for Nathan.

Leander was riding shotgun, keeping Katherine company on the way to the Mitchell family's Summer Villa.

The Mitchells had been given a heads-up, and someone would be there to greet Mrs. Melville when they rolled in.

The Mitchells and the Melvilles had beef for a while, but they all had mad respect for Katherine.

The car was cruising down the country road.

After wrapping up some work on his laptop, Leander shut it and glanced at Katherine, who had her eyes closed, catching some Z's. "Mrs. Melville, did you hit the sack early last night?"

Katherine didn't even bother opening her eyes, "Maybe, didn't check the time. Why?"

Leander said, "No biggie. Mr. Melville called you last night, but your phone was dead. He was worried, so he hit me up. I told him you were cool, and he chilled out."

"My phone died last night," Katherine mumbled back to Leander.

Actually, she saw Alex's missed call first thing in the morning and called him back, but his phone was off.

Probably 'cause of the time zone difference, Alex was catching some sleep!

So she didn't bother calling again.

Lately, she had been waiting for Alex's call. This call should've come as soon as his plane landed to let her know he was safe, but it only came last night.

It was probably 'cause Fiona called him yesterday, and he might've called to explain something.

She couldn't even figure out what was going on between her and Alex; it just felt more and more pointless.

She didn't even care to think about who the other woman was.

Katherine thought for a sec, lazily opened her eyes, and asked Leander, "Does the Melville Group have any new projects in Markovia that are eating up so much of Alex's time?"

Leander's eyes flickered, "Uh..."

Seeing Leander struggle, Katherine raised an eyebrow, "Business secret?"

Leander stayed quiet.

Katherine found it boring and closed her eyes again, "Forget it, pretend I didn't ask."

Leander, worried Katherine might be pissed, explained, "Mrs. Melville, it's not a business secret. Even if it was, Mr. Melville wouldn't keep it from you. It's just that I'm just a subordinate, and it's not my place to talk about such big stuff with you. But you can call Mr. Melville directly; he'll fill you in."

Katherine smirked sarcastically. If that guy had something to say, he would've said it before jetting off, not waiting for her to pry.

No more questions!

She was done letting her world spin around Alex's every move, feeling all jittery and unsure.

Because of the whole Scarlett mess, she and Alex had split once before.

This time, she wasn't leaving without getting things straight.

'When Alex gets back, We’re gonna hash it out face to face. I’d hear him out and was ready for whatever.'

Katherine thought she was still thinking straight. Even her own dad wasn’t a loyal guy; how could she expect any dude to be totally faithful and not cheat?

Some big-shot surveys said the odds of guys cheating when their wives are pregnant were sky-high.

She used to think Alex wasn’t the type to mess around. Now, she figured all men are just driven by their instincts, probably no exceptions. "Well, I'll ask him when he gets back."

Leander, seeing Katherine looking all down, worried she might be doubting Alex.

But in the end, he couldn’t say much more, "Alright then."

The car sped along for two hours before they hit the Mitchell family's Summer Villa.

Katherine hopped out and squinted at the place in front of her.

The grand and fancy gate of the Mitchell family's Summer Villa was clearly designed with some top-notch architectural flair and looked pretty impressive.

The gate had "Mitchell" engraved on it.

Alice, that woman, still got to live in such a swanky place and enjoy it even after screwing up. It was way too good for her!

Leander stepped up and hit the doorbell.

An old guy’s face popped up on the video at the gate and asked, "Who are you?"

Leander said, "I’m with the Melville family. Mrs. Melville is here to see Mrs. Mitchell. We already talked to Vincent."

Having gotten the heads-up from Vincent, the old guy nodded, "Please wait a moment."

Soon, a butler came out to greet them, looking pretty respectful, "Ms. Galatea, please come in."

The Mitchell family's butler didn’t call her Mrs. Melville but Ms. Galatea, showing they still weren’t cool with the Melville family.

The butler led Katherine and Leander to the guest hall and brought out some snacks. "Ms. Galatea, please wait here for a moment. Mrs. Mitchell is changing and will be here soon."

Katherine nodded and reached out to try some of the food.

Leander stopped her, "Mrs. Melville, Mr. Melville told me not to let you eat anything from the Mitchell family."

Katherine frowned but didn’t push it, shrugged, and pulled her hand back.

Soon, Alice showed up.

A middle-aged woman with great skin, dressed all fancy, looking like she wasn’t bothered at all despite her situation.

Alice looked at Katherine with clear hostility, "Ms. Galatea, you're here!"

Katherine smiled back, "Mrs. Mitchell, it’s been a few days. How’ve you been?"

Alice smiled, "Seeing me in such good shape, are you disappointed? Did you think that by getting Scarlett locked up, I’d be a mess? Ms. Galatea, you’re wrong. I, Alice, have been through all sorts of stuff over the years. This little hiccup can't keep me down. There's still a long road ahead!!"
