Chapter 562 Holding Back from Missing You
Then, Katherine started throwing her stuff into her suitcase.
After crashing at the Mitchell family's Summer Villa for a night, it was time to bounce.
With Alex around, getting Charles back was a piece of cake.
She'd done what she came to do, so no point in sticking around.
While she was stuffing clothes into her bag, her phone buzzed.
Not wanting the ringtone to wake the two snoozing people, Katherine stepped outside to take the call.
It was Frank, usually Mr. Chill, but now he sounded all frantic, "Katherine, where you at?"
Katherine shot straight, "I'm at the Mitchell family's Summer Villa. What's up?"
Frank was like, "Where's that? Drop me the location. I gotta find you; there's something big I need to tell you!"
Seeing Frank all serious, Katherine figured it must be something major, something you don't just chat about over the phone. "No need to come here. I'm heading back today. Let's meet at Breaking Dawn Bar tonight!"
Frank was down, "Cool! Ambrosia and I will be waiting for you at Breaking Dawn Bar!"
After hanging up, Katherine felt a bit on edge. It was rare for Frank to get all serious, and she worried it might be something huge.
As she pocketed her phone and turned around, she saw Alex leaning lazily against the doorway, his intense gaze locked on her.
Katherine was caught off guard for a sec and frowned, "Why are you up? Why not catch some more Z's?"
The dude narrowed his eyes, "Who were you talking to just now, and why'd you sneak out to answer?"
Hearing this, Katherine felt the distrust and rolled her eyes at him. "It was Frank. I didn't want to wake you and Charles, so I took the call outside. Got a problem with that?"
Alex strolled over and lifted her chin, grilling her, "You still keep in touch with that Frank a lot?"
Katherine answered coolly, "Yeah! I've told you, he's a super important friend to me, like family. No way I'm cutting him off!"
Alex sneered, "No blood relation; what kind of family is that? You might see him as family, but he might not see you the same way!"
Katherine frowned, annoyed, "Alex, what are you getting at? Are you doubting Frank and me again?"
Alex caressed her cheek, "I don't doubt you, but I got every reason to doubt him. A guy always wanting to talk to someone else's wife? That's sketchy."
Katherine looked up, super pissed, and met Alex's eyes with a sarcastic smile, "You got the nerve to doubt others? Why don't you take a good look at yourself first, Mr. Melville?"
Catching the shade in Katherine's words and her switch to calling him Mr. Melville, Alex's brows furrowed, "Take a look at myself? What did I do? What have I done to piss you off?"
Katherine turned her face away, fuming, "You know damn well what you've done. Do I really need to spell it out for you?"
Alex's hand, which had been pushed away, hung in mid-air. He tried to think back on what he did but came up blank. "What did I do to make you mad? I've only been back for less than half a day, and I even held back when I wanted to kiss you! What else did I do?"
Hearing him drop the "wanted to kiss you" bomb so bluntly, Katherine's face went red, but her anger didn't budge.
Since they were already knee-deep in this convo, she figured she might as well lay it all out!
"Alexander Melville!" Katherine rarely busted out his full name.
When she did, it meant things were getting real. Alex straightened up instinctively, "Yeah, I'm here."
Katherine locked eyes with him and asked, "In the past few days while you were abroad, did you stay with any other women?"
That question hit Alex like a ton of bricks. He thought for a sec and then it clicked, "So that's why you're mad at me? I was wondering why you got all cold and distant after a few days!"
Seeing him trying to dodge, Katherine got even more pissed, "Since you already know why I'm mad, why don't you just spill the whole truth? If you lie to me, either make sure I never find out or be ready for us to break up!"
Seeing Katherine so serious, Alex started to freak out a bit. He reached out and pulled her into his arms, "Babe, you actually said that to scare me with talk of breaking up!"
Katherine tried to wriggle out of his grip, but when she couldn't, she punched him hard, "I'm dead serious, not joking! If you lie to me, we're getting a divorce!"
Katherine's punch packed a punch, and it hurt like hell when it landed on his chest. Alex hissed in pain but didn't let go, still holding her tight, and said in a low voice, "No, I was just abroad on business. I didn't stay with any women behind your back! I wouldn't dare!"
Even though he said it all lovey-dovey, Katherine's eyes darkened. "You're lying to me? I heard a woman's voice on the phone before you got back! And that day, a woman answered your phone, saying you were sleeping! What woman can get into your room while you're sleeping, and you tell me you didn't stay with any women?"
Katherine was really bummed. If Alex had just told her the truth, she might've bought his story.
Maybe it was really a female friend or colleague from abroad who had to crash at his place for some unavoidable reason, and nothing happened.
But he flat-out denied it, which was a blatant lie!
Seeing Katherine's face darken, Alex pinched his brow and quickly came clean, "Yeah, I was sleeping, but it wasn't at home; it was at the company abroad. The situation abroad was super tricky, so I had to work overtime all day and crash at the company without going back to my place. The secretary who answered Fiona's call was there. She happened to hear the phone ring while tidying up the office and answered it. I wanted to call you back that day to explain, but you didn't pick up, and then I got swamped and forgot. The schedule was so tight, I couldn't find time to reach out. I was afraid that if I contacted you, I wouldn't be able to resist flying back to see you, so I held back from looking at my phone. Sure enough, after you called me yesterday, I really wanted to see you, so I flew back overnight."
