Chapter 680 You Will Regret It
Sophia was losing it. "Friend? Seriously? I'm a knockout with a killer body. Why do you only see me as a friend?"
Alex frowned, clearly annoyed, and covered Katherine's ears with his big hand. "Sophia, you're out of line. Stop yelling."
Sophia got even more worked up. "I just want you to see me as a woman. Is that too much to ask?"
Alex had enough. "That's it. Someone, get Sophia back to the hotel. She's had too much."
Two servants stepped up. "Mrs. Coleman, please."
Sophia dug in her heels. "I'm not drunk, and I'm not leaving."
The servants looked to Alex for a cue. Seeing his stony face, they started dragging Sophia out.
Sophia was livid, struggling and shouting, "Alex, you can't do this to me. You'll regret it."
Alex didn't budge.
Once Sophia was gone, things got a lot quieter.
Katherine looked up, squinting. "Is she really Brent's daughter?"
Alex nodded. "Don't worry about it."
Katherine finally got why Sophia was so full of herself. She was Brent's daughter!
Brent was the big shot behind Summit Innovations Group.
Rumors had it that Brent, who came from a humble background, built Summit Innovations Group from scratch. Its subsidiaries were scattered worldwide, displaying a front of legitimate business activities. However, behind the scenes, the conglomerate was heavily involved in various gray industries, with its influence spread globally, making it a significant entity.
Why did Alex pick someone with such a messy background like Sophia to keep his family happy?
She was about to ask when Fiona's breathless voice cut in, "Katherine, I got the coffee."
Fiona came running back, sweating, and handed over the coffee.
Just as Katherine was about to grab it, Alex's big hand snatched it first.
After checking the temperature, Alex stuck a straw in and brought it to her lips.
Katherine, not used to being fed, took the cup herself and took a big sip.
Alex watched her. "Take it easy. No one's gonna steal it."
Katherine ignored him. Feeling a bit tired, she headed to the police station's lobby to find a seat and enjoy her coffee.
Holding the cup, she walked over to the seating area and saw Jackie and Sandra there.
She gave a polite nod. "Jackie, Sandra, long time no see."
Seeing Katherine's polite demeanor, Sandra felt a mix of nostalgia and sadness. "Katherine, are you okay?"
Katherine nodded. "I'm fine."
Jackie glanced at Katherine, noticing her fuller figure and her almost due belly. "Where have you been lately?"
Katherine just smiled, not answering, and quietly sat down to sip her coffee.
Alex followed her, squatting down and looking at her gently. "The coffee's cold. Even if you like it, you can't chug it all at once. You'll get a stomachache."
Katherine frowned. "Then I'll just get a stomachache."
Alex knew she was trying to get under his skin but didn't take the bait. "Half a cup is enough. Sip it slowly. I'll go check on the interrogation."
Katherine nodded slightly, looking a bit distracted.
Alex gave her a gentle pat on the head and then walked down the police station's hallway.
After he left, Fiona helped Sandra sit next to Katherine.
Katherine just smiled at Sandra.
Sandra sighed deeply. "Katherine, I heard everything you said to Sophia just now."
Katherine looked at her. "Did it change your opinion of me? Do you think I'm not good to Alex?"
Sandra shook her head. "Katherine, I know you're a straightforward and good kid. I also know why you left without saying goodbye, and I understand you. I knew about Alex and Sophia getting married a long time ago but didn't dare tell you because I was afraid you'd get angry and leave Alex. Katherine, I didn't mean to hide it from you, and our family didn't deceive you. I knew Alex was forced by Jackie to marry Sophia, and he had no other choice."
Katherine listened while sipping her coffee through the straw.
Sandra continued, "Katherine, since you left, Alex has been in a daze every day. He hasn't smiled since then and has sent people everywhere to look for you. Katherine, come home with me?"
Katherine shook her head. "No, I'm not going back yet."
Sandra felt a bit hurt. "Why? Won't you give Alex a chance to make amends?"
Katherine said, "Alex is still married to another woman. When he gets divorced, I'll go back."
"Katherine, I understand how you feel. But if you don't go home, where will you stay? You're about to give birth, and I really can't rest easy with you staying outside."
Katherine said, "Don't worry, I'm in good health and have a good place to stay. The baby will be fine."
Sandra didn't want to push her but sensed she might have misunderstood something. "Katherine, I'm not just worried about the baby. I'm more concerned about your health. Giving birth is no joke. I'm worried that this is your first time, and you don't have any experience. Without a female elder to take care of you, I really can't rest easy."
Katherine smiled, "Thank you for your concern, but I'm really fine. Until Alex resolves his personal issues, I won't step into the Melville mansion. That's my principle, and I hope you can understand."
