Chapter 350 A Married Man Must Uphold His Duties!

He really didn't want to take this call.

But if he ignored it, Katherine might think he was hiding something. He just got her back and didn't want any misunderstandings to drive her away again.

So, Alex put the call on speaker.

Scarlett's shaky, tearful voice came through. "Alex, where are you?"

"Home," he replied.

"Alex, can you come over? I need you."

"Not convenient."

Despite his firm refusal, Scarlett kept pleading, "Alex, I know I shouldn't keep bothering you, but Charles is missing! I've looked everywhere but couldn't find him. Do you think something bad happened to him?"

Alex's brow furrowed. Charles was missing?

Katherine, halfway through her soup, put down her spoon and said casually, "Go. You adopted the child with her, so it's your responsibility too."

Alex didn't respond to Scarlett's crying. He hung up and looked deeply at Katherine. "Sweetheart, you have to believe me. That child..."

Before he could finish, she placed a finger on his lips, stopping him.

Katherine looked at him calmly. "You don't need to explain. I understand. I won't be angry."

Alex was momentarily stunned, touched by her understanding.

Katherine continued, "But you have to carry me upstairs to change. I want to go with you."

Alex gently lifted her. "Alright, you'll come with me."

He cursed himself. Why was he so afraid of her getting angry that he didn't tell her about adopting the child?

If he had explained it properly, she would have understood and wouldn't have left in anger.

Katherine was open-minded and understanding, but he had underestimated her.

As Alex carried her out of the kitchen, Katherine lazily wrapped her arms around his neck. "Alex, this is our last chance. From now on, you can't hide anything from me, or I will never forgive you."

He stroked her hair. "Alright, I promise I will never hide anything from you again."

"That's more like it!"

After changing clothes, they went out and got into the car, heading to the Mitchell family.

Not long after they left Melville Manor, a black van emerged from a nearby alley and quietly followed them.

At the Mitchell family, a servant came in and respectfully reported, "They are here!"

Scarlett, crying helplessly in Bernard's arms over Charles's disappearance, perked up a bit upon hearing that Alex had arrived. She sat up and looked towards the door.

Alex walked into the living room, tall and slender.

But he wasn't alone. He was holding Katherine's hand.

Scarlett's hopeful eyes froze, her face darkened, and she clenched her fists, crying even louder.

Seeing Alex with Katherine, Bernard, already upset about his sister, looked extremely displeased, his face cold and frowning.

Bringing Katherine along now? Wasn't Scarlett suffering enough?

Alex, still holding Katherine's hand, approached the Mitchell siblings, his face serious. "What's going on? Have you found Charles?"

Scarlett wiped her tears. "Alex, you're here! Charles... he's still missing."

Alex's brow furrowed, his eyes sharp. "How did he suddenly disappear?"

Scarlett choked up. "I put Charles to bed and went to the bathroom. When I came out, he was gone! I've searched everywhere and can't find him."

Alex squinted. "What about the security cameras?"

Bernard, seeing his sister's distress, gently patted her shoulder and took over. "We've checked cameras around the main gate and the walls. Charles hasn't left the house."

Alex said, "If he hasn't left, he must be hiding somewhere in the house. Get some search dogs and look again!"

"Alex, what should I do? I'm so worried about Charles. He's so small. What if something happens to him?" Scarlett stood up weakly, leaning towards Alex.

Anticipating this, Alex stepped back and moved behind Katherine, avoiding the situation.

Scarlett almost leaned on Katherine but stopped herself in time, looking awkward and embarrassed.

Katherine looked at Scarlett calmly and smiled politely. "Scarlett, even if you're heartbroken over losing a child, you should seek comfort from the right person. Alex is a married man and can't comfort you."

Scarlett, feeling insulted, looked pitiful and misunderstood. "Katherine, I didn't mean that. I just lost my balance."

Katherine chuckled. "Really? Lost your balance? Then be careful next time. Lean against a wall if you can't stand, not on a married man, or you might fall."

Scarlett's face turned pale. "You..."

Bernard, unable to watch his sister being insulted, stepped forward. "Katherine, this is not your place to speak!"

Before Katherine could respond, Alex wrapped his arm protectively around her, his tone calm but threatening. "Bernard, watch how you speak to Mrs. Melville!"

"Mrs. Melville?" Bernard's usually composed face twisted into a cold smile. "Alex, you ruined Scarlett's happiness, and you have the nerve to bring Katherine here to hurt her more! What kind of man does that?"
