Chapter 866 Will He Agree?
"Don't even mention divorce. We can't get divorced!" Brent retorted, pinching the bridge of his nose in frustration. "I get what you're saying. Just give me some time to think it over."
Nora and Linda exchanged glances, sensing a glimmer of hope.
Brent stood up. "You two can stay here for as long as you need. I'll arrange for someone to protect you nearby. Once I've made up my mind, I'll come back for you."
With that, Brent turned and walked out the door.
Watching Brent's departing figure, Linda turned to Nora. "Mom, do you think Dad will agree?"
Nora shook her head. "I don't know. After all, Sophia holds a very important place in his heart."
Linda shrugged. "I hope Dad can see things clearly and not be manipulated by Sophia anymore!"
Nora sighed softly, about to say something when her phone suddenly beeped.
It was a text message.
She took out her phone and saw a message from Claire: [Nora, did you find the photo of the girl who looks like my daughter? If you did, don't forget to send it to me!]
Nora almost forgot that she had promised Claire to find a photo of Katherine for her.
Unable to find Katherine's photo online, she didn't know where else to look.
Noticing Nora's distress, Linda asked, "Mom, what's wrong? Is there a problem?"
Nora sighed and told Linda, "Your art teacher wants to see a photo of Katherine because I think Katherine looks a lot like your art teacher when she was younger. But I can't find a photo of Katherine anywhere!"
Linda's eyes lit up. "That's easy! Mom, did you forget what I'm studying? If there's no photo, I can draw one!"
Nora realized, "That's right! Linda, you can draw Katherine's likeness. Quick, go draw one! I'll take a picture and send it to Claire later!"
Linda nodded and ran off to get paper and pencils.
The Melville Manor.
George and Edith, bored with practicing their handwriting and with Katherine still not back, decided to leave their room to look for her.
The maids in charge of watching them were worried they might disturb Sandra and Katherine's conversation, so they tried to persuade George and Edith not to run around. But they wouldn't listen!
In desperation, the maids made a deal with George and Edith, promising to secretly give them two packs of snacks if they went back to their room and practiced their handwriting.
George and Edith, tempted by the snacks, agreed to their terms and obediently returned to their room to continue practicing.
The maids kept their promise and brought out the two packs of snacks they had hidden, giving one to each of them.
Although Katherine had just said they were banned from snacks for a month, the maids thought the situation was special. They would explain it to Katherine when she returned, and Katherine would understand.
Katherine was always the most understanding person.
However, before Katherine returned, Charles woke up from his nap and came looking for her!
Children, upon waking, always wanted to cling to the person they were closest to.
Charles entered the room and, not seeing Katherine, noticed George and Edith practicing their handwriting with the maids.
Curious, he walked over to see how George and Edith were doing, only to spot the unopened packs of snacks by their hands.
Those were the same snacks Katherine had just told him were all gone.
Hadn't she said there were none left? Why did George and Edith have new ones?
Was Katherine lying to him to save the snacks for George and Edith?
Feeling sad and disappointed, Charles quietly turned and left.
"Mr. Charles Melville, where are you going? Your mommy was just asking about you!" the maid called after him.
Charles replied listlessly, "I'm going back to my room."
He walked back to his room alone, looking lonely.
The maids found Charles's behavior odd but couldn't figure it out.
When Katherine finally came out of Sandra's room two hours later, Sandra hadn't asked her much, only talked about recent dreams involving Alex.
Katherine noticed Sandra didn't look well, so she stayed to massage Sandra's head and helped her take a nap before leaving.
Returning to the room, she found George and Edith asleep.
The maids explained that they had been practicing diligently and were so tired they fell asleep, so they had put them to bed.
Katherine sat by the window, looking at George and Edith, and sighed wearily, hoping they would get along better in the future and stop fighting.
"Where's Charles?" Katherine asked, turning around.
One maid replied, "Mr. Charles Melville came by earlier, looked around, and then went back to his room."
Katherine frowned, sensing something was off.
Charles, being a bit older, was usually very obedient but still quite attached to her. Why was he staying in his room alone today?
Katherine tucked George and Edith in, instructed the maids to keep an eye on them, and then headed to check on Charles.
Katherine knocked on the door, and a voice quickly responded, "Who is it?"
"Charles, it's me, Mommy."
After a moment of silence, Charles's voice came again, "Mommy, come in."
Katherine opened the door and found Charles sitting at his little desk, looking at a picture book.
She walked over, sat beside him, and glanced at the picture book in his hands, then at his round little face. "Why are you here alone today? Not playing with George and Edith?"
Charles instinctively pursed his lips. "I'm growing up now. I need to learn to be independent and not trouble Mommy too much."
Katherine narrowed her eyes slightly. "Who said you were troubling Mommy?"
Charles shook his head. "No one said it. I just feel that way. Mommy, you work so hard taking care of George and Edith. I shouldn't add to your troubles."
Katherine gently stroked Charles's head. "Charles, no matter what, Mommy will never think of you as trouble."
