Chapter 185 The Mitchell family is the Mitchell family, and Scarlett is Scarlett!
Alex raised his hand to stop him. "No need. From now on, if she locks the door and there's no safety concern, no one is allowed to use a key to open it."
Anton was taken aback and then answered, "Yes, Sir."
This was completely different from Mr. Melville's initial attitude.
Previously, when Mrs. Melville locked the door, Mr. Melville would always be displeased and have someone open it with a key.
It was Mr. Melville's room. No one was allowed to lock the door, let alone lock him out.
But now Mr. Melville was actually tolerating it, which was unprecedented!
Alex didn't knock on the door again. Instead, he took out his phone and called Katherine inside.
The phone rang for a while before it was answered. Katherine's voice, still groggy and a bit grumpy, came through. "What's up?"
Alex said, "It's time to get up and have breakfast together."
Katherine had stayed up all night working on a design and had just fallen asleep at dawn. She didn't want to do anything except sleep. "I'm not hungry. You go ahead and eat."
She hung up after that.
Hearing the busy tone, Alex's face darkened.
He was always the one who rejected others. Now, the tables had turned, and God had sent Katherine to torment him, making him the one being rejected.
He rubbed his temples helplessly and redialed. "You still need to open the door and let me check on you."
Katherine answered again, sounding a bit annoyed. "Didn't I send you a photo yesterday? You can look at it anytime, anywhere!"
Alex's brow furrowed slightly. "How much longer do you plan to leave me yearning for you? Hmm?"
Just the word "yearning" made Katherine blush and wake up a bit. "Alex! It's so early in the morning, aren't you ashamed?"
Hearing Katherine's embarrassed reaction, Alex's lips curled up. "Alright, if you're tired, go back to sleep. I won't disturb you."
Katherine huffed, "Hmph! Next time you're sleeping soundly, I'll call you and make you get up, and then you can go back to sleep!"
She hung up angrily.
Alex chuckled, his eyes full of tenderness. He put away his phone and looked up to instruct Anton, "Don't disturb her. When she wakes up, ask her what she wants to eat and make breakfast for her again."
Anton showed a shocked expression on his aged face. "Yes, I understand, Mr. Melville."
Did he see it right? Mr. Melville actually looked like a young boy in love today. He wasn't even allowed to go into the room, and just a phone call made him so happy?
Mr. Melville had rarely smiled since childhood, and he was known for his stoic demeanor. Yet, a brief phone call with Mrs. Melville brought a tender smile to his face.
Unbelievable!
It seemed they needed to pay more attention to Mrs. Melville in the future. Mr. Melville was genuinely in love with her!
Failing to make Katherine up, Alex went downstairs alone to have breakfast.
Leander respectfully walked into the dining room to report the results of the task Mr. Melville had assigned yesterday.
He stated, "Mr. Melville, we've found that blogger. After she offended the Mitchell family's elder at Whispering Ripple, Bernard's people gave her a harsh lesson, and the platform permanently banned her live-streaming account. Feeling she couldn't get by, she fled back to her hometown overnight."
Alex listened, eating his breakfast slowly.
Leander continued, "She said that since she realized she had offended someone important in the Mitchell family, she was afraid it would affect her family's jobs, so she hid in the countryside and didn't dare go online. She claimed that she didn't post the tweets defaming Mrs. Melville; her Twitter account was hacked. Because the Mitchell family had warned her not to spread the incident at Whispering Ripple or the subsequent punishment she received, and Bernard's people confiscated her phone on the spot, she didn't have the original video footage. Even if she did, she wouldn't dare use a video involving the Mitchell family's elder to make a fuss online. Mr. Melville, it seems someone else is behind the online defamation of Mrs. Melville."
Alex's expression remained unchanged, not surprised at all.
Last night, he had already traced the video's IP address and found it originated from the Mitchell family, not the blogger.
Alex picked up his glass of milk with his long fingers, took a sip, and remained silent.
Leander, observing Mr. Melville's expression, thought for a moment and then said, "Mr. Melville, I've had the blogger record a video clarifying that she didn't post the defamatory tweets and explaining the facts. She also recounted the incident. If we release this clarification video to the media, it should clear some of the suspicions surrounding Mrs. Melville. However, it won't be as convincing as releasing the entire original video. Most netizens are very skeptical these days. They might suspect the blogger was coerced into changing her story, and they'll question why the original video isn't being released.
He added, ''The Mitchell family is really heartless this time! Mrs. Melville was clearly helping their elder when she clashed with that blogger. Now that it's blown up online, the Mitchell family is staying silent and not helping their benefactor."
Alex's eyes narrowed coldly, the Mitchell family.
Leander understood Mr. Melville's concern. "Miss Mitchell once saved your life, so it's difficult to take action against the Mitchell family."
Sigh, it was because it was the Mitchell family that this matter was so tricky.
Unexpectedly, Alex finally spoke, his tone calm but full of ruthless determination, "The Mitchell family is the Mitchell family. Scarlett is Scarlett."
Leander was taken aback and a bit surprised, but he quickly understood that Mr. Melville was no longer willing to give the Mitchell family face for Miss Mitchell's sake.
He solemnly asked, "Mr. Melville, what should I do next?"
Just as Alex was about to instruct Leander, Anton hurriedly came in to report, "Mr. Melville, someone from the Mitchell family is here."
The Mitchell family?
Leander was puzzled. As far as he knew, this was the first time someone from the Mitchell family, other than Miss Mitchell, had visited the Melville family.
The two families had old grudges. Although the younger generation didn't treat each other as enemies, they rarely visited each other.
Alex raised an eyebrow and then asked, "What are they here for?"
Anton replied, "They said they're here to apologize to you and Mrs. Melville. A subordinate brought Sunny, and Scarlett is also in the car. They came together."
Alex's eyes darkened. "Let them in."
"Yes," Anton responded and went to bring them in.
Soon, Bernard's trusted aide, Billy, walked in with Sunny.
But Scarlett did not follow them in.
