Chapter 961 Nowhere to Go
"Alright, I'll trust you this once. If you don't bring the person, I really won't take the medicine!" Hellen said.
Hanging up the phone, Bernard picked up the two hundred dollars that Christina had thrown on the ground and called Billy. "A woman entered my room yesterday. I want to see her."
"Yes, Mr. Mitchell. I'll find her right away."
Billy was initially shocked to hear that a woman had entered Bernard's room. He had worked with Bernard for many years and knew that Bernard hated women who threw themselves at him.
Over the years, he had always arranged everything for Bernard meticulously, ensuring no woman had the opportunity to take advantage.
Unexpectedly, an accident happened this time!
Fortunately, Bernard did not take his anger out on him.
Christina, who had left Bernard's place, answered a call from Renee outside. "Mom?"
"Christina, where are you now?" Renee's tone was very harsh on the other end of the line. "Christina, how did we raise you? How could you, as a young woman, become a homewrecker and destroy someone else's family? You may not care about your reputation, but your father, your sister, and the entire Russell family still have dignity!"
Christina was utterly confused. "Mom, what are you talking about? I didn't do anything like that. I would never be a homewrecker."
"Stop denying it! Cheryl told us everything, and you're still denying it? I always thought that even though you weren't as accomplished as Cheryl, at least you had some sense and understood right from wrong. But how could you do something so disgraceful?"
Disgraceful?
Christina never expected her biological mother to use such words to describe her.
She always knew that between Cheryl and herself, Renee always favored Cheryl. Even though Cheryl was not her biological daughter, Renee still loved Cheryl more because of Jared.
Renee loved Jared and knew that Jared chose her because she was virtuous and sensible and would take good care of Cheryl.
If Cheryl spoke ill of her in front of Jared, Jared would abandon her.
She had hoped to give Jared a son to inherit the family fortune, but instead, she gave birth to Christina, a daughter. So she could only ignore Christina and focus all her attention on Cheryl, trying to please Cheryl. After all, if they were kicked out of the Russell family, life would be tough for both her and Christina.
Christina had understood this from a very young age, so she never competed with Cheryl. Even if Cheryl bullied her, she would pretend nothing had happened.
But she never expected her biological mother to use such words to describe her because of something Cheryl said.
"Mom, Cheryl is lying! I didn't become a homewrecker!"
Just as Renee was about to speak, Jared reached out for the phone.
She immediately handed the phone to Jared.
"Christina, you achieved nothing after graduating from college, and I never blamed you. But no one in the Russell family can do anything immoral! Leave that man and come home immediately, or you'll never be allowed back into the Russell family!"
After saying this, Jared hung up the phone.
Renee looked at Jared's expression and nervously smiled. "Jared, don't worry. Christina might just had a moment of confusion. She'll come home soon."
Her words did not ease Jared's expression at all. He stood up and said unhappily, "Since marrying me, you haven't worked and have devoted yourself entirely to the two daughters. I really don't know how you raised Christina!"
"Jared, I..."
Jared didn't give Renee a chance to explain and walked out the door.
Seeing her flustered state, Cheryl stepped forward, held her hand, and smiled hypocritically. "Renee, don't worry. I'll tell Dad that Christina's misbehavior is her own doing and has nothing to do with you."
Cheryl's words made Renee breathe a sigh of relief, and she said gratefully, "Cheryl, you're such a good child."
After being hung up on, Christina felt bitter and speechless. She never expected Cheryl to fail in her scheme and then slander her at home. The chaotic home was not her safe haven, and Christina felt complicated and didn't know where to go.
Even without any evidence, Cheryl's words were enough to make Jared and Renee believe she was guilty. No matter how much she explained, it was useless.
Just like in elementary school, when Cheryl was the one who started the fight, and Christina was the one who got beaten. But as long as Cheryl cried and said Christina bullied her, Jared and Renee would unconditionally side with Cheryl.
She never had any status or support at home.
If she went home now, she would face her parents' scolding and Cheryl's gloating and insults.
For some reason, after facing this for over twenty years, she suddenly felt exhausted and tired at this moment.
She turned around, looked at the villa in front of her for a long time, and finally mustered the courage to go back and knock on the door.
The door opened again, and it was still Bernard standing inside.
"Can I still sign that agreement from earlier?" she asked.
Bernard was somewhat surprised that she had returned, but for him, it wasn't a bad thing.
He nodded slightly and let Christina in again.
Sitting on the sofa once more, Christina seemed a bit uneasy. "Sorry, I know it's not good to change my mind like this, but I do have my reasons."
"Check the agreement," Bernard said, not interested in her reasons.
Bernard didn't care why Christina had returned or what reasons she had for doing so.
All he wanted was someone who could act as his wife in front of Vincent and Hellen, avoiding many unnecessary troubles.
"Okay." Christina reached out and picked up the agreement, reading it very carefully this time.
The marriage agreement was very clear. The two needed to get married to establish a legal marital relationship and live together. In the eyes of outsiders, they would be like a real couple.
Bernard needed Christina to play the role of the perfect wife in front of others, satisfying the elders in the family.
In return, Christina would receive a substantial amount of money, although she didn't care much about that. She just didn't want to go home and needed a place to stay temporarily.
After reading the agreement, Christina put it back on the table. "I'm willing to sign this agreement and marry you, but I have one condition."
From the moment Bernard decided to use a woman like Christina as a shield, he was prepared for her to demand many benefits.
After all, getting married with conditions was to be expected. "Go ahead."
