Chapter 724 Going to the Children's Amusement Park
Jonathan looked deeply into her eyes. "You and Alex never officially registered your marriage. That wedding was just a show to appease Jackie, and you didn't even invite any important elders to witness it. And now, you're basically working for their family for free. No matter how much you do, one day, when they think you're no longer useful, they can kick you out. And then, you'll have nothing."
Katherine tapped the keyboard, saved the document, and then yawned wearily. She looked at Jonathan. "So, you think I'm helping the Melville family now to get shares from them in the future?"
Jonathan shook his head. "I know you don't think that way, but when you realize you're being used and then discarded, you'll be very upset."
Katherine was indifferent. "Whether I'm being used or not, and whether I'm Alex's legal wife, doesn't matter to me. Until I find out where Alex is, I'll temporarily help him keep the company's shares. When he comes back, I'll return them to him. The rest doesn't matter."
Jonathan stared at her in silence.
Yes! Other women might foolishly give their all because they were confused, but Katherine had always known exactly what she was doing and what she valued, without caring about gains and losses.
Katherine was not exactly shrewd. But wasn't it her pure quality that had always attracted him?
Thinking of this, Jonathan smiled and stopped saying things she didn't want to hear.
"Alright, as long as you know what you're doing. Let's not talk about this anymore. Katherine, today is your first official day as the interim president of the Melville Group. I came specifically to cheer you on! Do you have time after work? Let's grab a meal together?" he said.
Katherine took a sip of mineral water and didn't give him any face. "No time."
Jonathan had anticipated that she wouldn't easily accept his invitation and continued, "Don't worry; it's not just the two of us. Bernard will be there too! Let's have a meal together and relax?"
Katherine said, "No, I really don't have time. After work, I have to pick up the kids. I promised to take them out to play."
Jonathan frowned. "Katherine, isn't it exhausting managing the company and taking care of three kids by yourself?"
Katherine explained calmly, "Usually, I have professional childcare workers to help. Today, I just promised to take them to the amusement park."
"Oh, that's a relief!" Jonathan was a bit disappointed that he couldn't get Katherine to agree to something more, but he quickly adjusted his strategy. "Katherine, I haven't seen your kids in a while. I have some free time, so why don't I join you at the amusement park?"
Katherine looked at him disdainfully. "Mr. Mostow, knowing when to avoid suspicion is also a virtue."
Jonathan shrugged indifferently. "Suspicion of what? It's not like we're going on a date. You surely don't plan to take care of three kids by yourself! If I'm not mistaken, Fiona will be going too, right? Katherine, if you consider me a friend, what's the harm in letting me tag along? I haven't been to an amusement park in ages; I could use a bit of fun today!"
Jonathan deliberately threw her a flirtatious glance. "I can even be your driver, carry your bags when you two girls get tired, and help hold the kids."
"I have a driver," Katherine said.
"It's settled then! After work, I'll pick you up first, then we'll get the kids!" Jonathan declared, not giving her a chance to refuse. He got up, waved, and left.
Katherine thought he might just be saying it casually and went back to her work. But to her surprise, when it was time to leave, Jonathan really showed up!
Katherine and Fiona had just walked out of the building and were about to get into their car when they were disturbed by a honking sound from behind.
They turned to look.
They saw Jonathan's car parked behind them. He had rolled down the window, stuck his head out, and was smiling brightly at them with his naturally mischievous face, waving.
Fiona was immediately annoyed upon seeing Jonathan and frowned. "Katherine, why is he here again?"
Katherine frowned slightly. "Who knows why that guy has so much free time?"
Fiona huffed. "Let's ignore him and get in our own car!"
Saying that, Fiona quickly pulled Katherine into the car and urged the driver, "Quick! Drive! Lose that car behind us!"
The driver responded with a "Yes, ma'am," but before he could step on the gas, Jonathan's car suddenly pulled in front of them, blocking their way, almost causing a collision.
Fiona was furious and was about to get out to confront Jonathan, but Jonathan got out first, naturally opened the passenger door, and got into their car.
Fiona had never seen someone so presumptuous and snapped, "Are you crazy? Blocking our car and then getting in without permission?"
Jonathan turned around, smiling at Katherine in the back seat. "Katherine, didn't we agree that I'd join you at the amusement park today?"
Katherine was speechless and twitched her mouth. Who agreed with him? He agreed with himself!
Fiona looked at Katherine uneasily. "Katherine, did you really agree to bring him?"
Katherine said calmly, "No."
Hearing Katherine say no, Fiona felt relieved and glared at Jonathan. "Did you hear that? Katherine didn't agree to bring you. Stop wishful thinking! Get out now!"
Jonathan had no intention of getting out. He pulled the seatbelt over and fastened it confidently.
Fiona couldn't stand it and began to curse, "You..."
"Forget it!" Katherine checked the time; it was getting late, and she didn't want to keep the kids waiting. She instructed the driver, "Drive."
"Yes, Mrs. Melville," the driver responded obediently, reversed the car, bypassed the one in front, and headed to the kindergarten.
Fiona, still unhappy about Jonathan, grumbled to Katherine, "Katherine, why do we have to bring him along to pick up the kids?"
Katherine, distracted, replied, "The kindergarten is already letting out. We don't have time to deal with him right now."
