Chapter 118 Bitten by a Snake!
Katherine forced a dry smile and didn't want to pay any attention to Alex. She walked around the man to check on the brown bear that had been knocked down, observing it carefully.
The brown bear was in a miserable state. It was injured and had no strength to escape. Seeing humans approaching, it felt threatened and bared its teeth in fear, trying to intimidate its enemies with a show of aggression!
Katherine thoughtfully stroked her chin, looking at its pitiful appearance, and shook her head sympathetically." Look at it! Despite its size, it probably hasn't reached adulthood yet. It's kind of cute!"
Alex walked up beside her, looking coldly down at the robust brown bear, doubting if there was something wrong with Katherine's eyesight. This bear didn't look cute at all.
"Alex, these brown bears usually don't choose such harsh environments to live in. I guess it must have fallen here by accident. Let's release it!" she suggested.
"It's up to you," he replied.
Alex had no objections. He expressionlessly fiddled with the silver mini-hunting rifle in his hand for a moment before putting it back at his waist.
Katherine turned her head thoughtfully to look at him. Alex's skill with the gun was too proficient. His identity might be more complex than just the head of the Melville family.
"Alex, do you usually carry a gun with you?" she then asked.
"Usually, I don't need to carry it myself." Alex's tone was indifferent. "Zephyr Meadows is the wilderness, after all. There are bound to be some wild animals. I carry it just in case."
Katherine responded with an "okay" and then took a step to the side, distancing herself from him.
Alex noticed her small movement and squinted his eyes in displeasure. "Well, are you afraid of me?"
Katherine shook her head and answered, "I'm not afraid of you, but I'm afraid your gun might accidentally discharge!"
Alex raised his hand and flicked her forehead, saying, "Why don't you use your smarts for something more useful?"
Katherine frowned, rubbing her forehead where Alex had flicked it, feeling a bit hurt and unhappy.
"Alex, where's the rope you used to come down? We can have the people above pull us up one by one!" Katherine advised.
Alex slightly raised his chin, indicating that she should look over there.
Following Alex's direction, she saw the rope swaying in the air dozens of meters above them.
Even if they stacked on top of each other, they couldn't reach it!
Katherine twitched her mouth and stated, "I think we should find a place to rest first. Who knows how long it will take for them to find us? It might get pretty cold here at night."
Alex responded gently, "Alright."
Katherine walked ahead and suddenly felt a weight on her shoulder. She turned her head and saw that Alex had taken off his coat and draped it over her.
It felt a bit strange.
"Thank you," she said politely.
Alex didn't say anything, naturally walking beside her.
They hadn't walked far when they heard the brown bear start to howl like a loud-voiced child who had just been weaned.
Katherine stopped and looked back, raising an eyebrow. "Alex, how about... we take it with us?"
Alex looked at her and replied, "If that's what you want."
Katherine nodded.
Then, Alex turned around, tied the brown bear with vines, and carried it on his back, following closely behind Katherine.
The two of them, along with the bear, walked for a long time before finally finding a small cave at the bottom of the dark and damp valley where they could temporarily take shelter.
But the cave was filled with a lot of obstructive weeds that needed to be cleared. Alex placed the brown bear to the side and elegantly rolled up his shirt sleeves before bending down to pull out the half-meter-high weeds at the entrance one by one.
Katherine initially wanted to help, but as soon as she reached out, Alex slapped her hand away and gave her a stern look, forcing her to step aside. She had no choice but to stand by and watch, feeling inexplicably complicated.
It was rare to see Alex doing manual labor, and Katherine found that he seemed even more masculine than his usual polished and elite appearance.
Perhaps Katherine was too engrossed in watching the handsome man. She forgot to pay attention to her surroundings. Suddenly, a sharp pain struck her arm, causing her to frown in pain.
Looking down, she saw a yellow-green patterned snake had somehow appeared and bitten her arm!
She grabbed the snake and yanked it off, swinging it hard into the distant grass!
Seeing the two deep, bloody bite marks on her arm, Katherine recalled the appearance of the snake and thought it probably wasn't venomous.
"What happened?" Alex noticed something was wrong and walked over with a serious expression to ask her.
Katherine casually wiped the blood off her arm and answered, "It's nothing. I just got bitten by a small snake when I wasn't paying attention."
She was bitten by a snake, and she said it was nothing? Then what on earth would be considered something?
Alex's brow furrowed deeply as he grabbed her arm to inspect it.
Seeing the two clear bite marks on her pale, slender arm, his pupils contracted, and his brow furrowed even more. He immediately bent down and bit her slender arm, forcefully sucking out the venomous blood and spitting a mouthful of blood onto the ground.
Then, Alex hurriedly searched the nearby grass, pulling up weeds and squatting down to pick a wild herb.
Alex chewed the wild herb into a paste and applied it to her bite wound. Then, he tore a piece of cloth from his shirt to bandage the wound and the herb together.
Throughout the entire process, Katherine didn't say a word, obediently letting him do as he pleased, just frowning and staring at Alex in disbelief.
After bandaging her wound, Alex looked up at her and saw Katherine frowning as if she was unhappy. "Do you find me disgusting?"
Katherine snapped out of it, shook her head, and pressed the herb on her wound with her hand. "No, I'm just a bit surprised! Alex, you seem very experienced in dealing with snake bites. I didn't expect someone like you even to recognize snakeweed and know how to use it!"
Alex remained calm and answered indifferently, "I was bitten by a snake before. A girl told me that snakeweed can neutralize most snake venoms."
"A girl told you?" Hearing the word "girl," Katherine's brow furrowed slightly, then she smiled and raised an eyebrow. "Alex, it seems you have quite a few admirers!"
Alex sensed something off in her tone and gave her a sidelong glance. "Does that bother you?"
Katherine was taken aback, feeling inexplicably awkward. She turned her face to look at the unfortunate brown bear and laughed. "Why would it bother me? I'm just bored being stuck here and wanted to tease you! We are not a real couple, so your past admirers and love history have nothing to do with me."
Alex's expression became subtle as he stared at her. "Are you sure it doesn't bother you?"
