Chapter 596 Arrogance

Sophia leaned on the balcony, batting her lashes all flirty-like. "I'm just saying, what if! If you never find her, would you think about being with another girl?"

Alex shot back, "There's no 'what if.'"

Sophia pouted, "You're such a buzzkill! Can't even play along with a 'what if'!"

Alex gave her a look. "What are you getting at?"

Sophia grinned, all sly. "I'm saying if you never find Ms. Galatea, I could be your girl. I mean, we did get hitched abroad, so it's not like we're strangers!"

Indeed, they had tied the knot overseas.

Back then, Jackie had twisted Alex's arm to get married, saying he wouldn't go under the knife unless Alex got hitched. To keep Jackie chill, Alex reluctantly found Sophia for a fake marriage.

They'd been buddies for years, knew each other inside out, and had no drama, so asking Sophia was a no-brainer. After they got hitched abroad, Alex showed the marriage cert to Jackie.

Jackie wasn't buying it. He was worried Alex would sneak off and get a divorce after his surgery, so he insisted they have a wedding ceremony back home.

Alex had no choice but to roll with it. But on the big day, Sophia's flight got delayed 'cause of bad weather, and she couldn't make it to the ceremony.

That same day, Alex met Katherine. She kissed him out of nowhere, and he pulled her in to finish the ceremony.

After that, he and Sophia didn't keep in touch much and kinda forgot about their marriage.

Lately, Alex and Katherine had gotten back together and were planning to settle down, naturally wanting to register their marriage.

When they went to register, the marriage bureau would find out about his previous marriage abroad. Alex was worried Katherine would flip if she found out, so he wanted to divorce Sophia first and then spill the beans.

But Sophia wasn't playing ball and wanted compensation. He got that the divorce would mess with Sophia and agreed to compensate her.

Sophia didn't want cash; she wanted him to stay with her in Markovia for a month, and then she'd cooperate with the divorce. He had a new project in Markovia that needed his attention anyway, so he agreed.

Some things were just out of his hands.

Alex said, "You think I'm in the mood to joke around right now?"

Sophia shrugged. "Why not? Ms. Galatea might be living it up somewhere right now. Why are you so down?"

Alex frowned. "Enough! It's late. Just find a room and crash."

Sophia shook her head. "You won't let me sleep in this room, and Fiona doesn't want me in hers. The astrologer said I can't sleep in the guest room, so no way am I sleeping in the guest room of your house!"

Alex's eyes were full of disdain. "Only you would buy into that crap!"

"Yeah, I do believe it! So, no guest room for me! I bet you'll be too busy thinking about Ms. Galatea to sleep tonight. How about letting me crash here for one night? I'll find a hotel tomorrow," Sophia suggested.

"Nope," Alex said firmly.

Sophia rolled her eyes. "You're such a tightwad! Ms. Galatea wouldn't care if another chick slept in your bed! She doesn't even give a damn about you anymore!"

Alex's mood took a nosedive. He had always respected Sophia as a long-time friend who had helped him out, but now he was seriously pissed. "If you don't leave now, don't blame me for tossing you out!"

Sophia shrugged. "Alex, don't try to scare me. I know you too well. You'd never do that to me! But fine, I won't mess with you anymore. I'm out."

With that, Sophia turned and walked out.

Alex didn't stop her or even glance her way again. He looked up at the sky, wondering where Katherine was and what she was doing. More than being mad at her, he was worried about her safety.

Sophia had just stepped out of the room when she bumped into Fiona, who was looking for her.

Seeing Sophia coming out of Alex's room, Fiona was fuming, hands on her hips. "Why aren't you sleeping in the middle of the night? What were you doing sneaking into Alex's room? I bet you're up to no good! The issues between Alex and Katherine must be because of you!"

Sophia didn't feel guilty at all. "Fiona, you can't say that! I wanted to sleep in your room, but you pushed me to the floor several times. I had no choice but to come out. I told you I can't sleep in the guest room, so I had to use Alex's room temporarily."

Fiona wasn't buying it. "What do you mean you can't sleep in the guest room? That's just a lame excuse! You just want to sleep in Alex's room! Your excuse is pathetic! You better leave tomorrow! You're not welcome here!"

Sophia said, "It's not up to you whether I'm welcome or not! It's up to Alex! And Sandra welcomes me too! She even told you to give up your room for me, remember? But you refused to cooperate and move out, insisting on sharing the room with me! Do you believe if I complain to Sandra, she'll make you move out and let me stay in your room?"

Fiona was furious, not understanding why Sandra would keep such an annoying woman in the house, especially when Alex and Katherine were already having relationship issues. "Who knows what tricks you used to fool Sandra? She likes me the most. If I tell her you're bullying me, she'll kick you out immediately."

Sophia smirked provocatively, "I don't believe it! Go ahead and tell her I'm bullying you, and see if she believes you!"

Fiona was livid. " How dare you be so arrogant in front of me?"
