Chapter 686 Dumped
Teresa said, "Maybe. We arrived together, and he might give me a ride back when he leaves with Ms. Hawthorne."
Anthony couldn't hold back anymore. "Teresa, what's the deal with you and Mr. Perez?"
Teresa hesitated, feeling awkward. "Anthony, why are you asking that? There's nothing between me and Mr. Perez."
Anthony pressed on, "If there's nothing, why does he care so much about you? I heard from some colleagues that you joined the company because of him. Is that true?"
Teresa sighed, "Yeah, it was because of him at first."
Anthony felt a mix of hurt and relief at her honesty. "Teresa, thanks for being straight with me. Do you still have feelings for Mr. Perez?"
Teresa wanted to dodge the question. "Whether I like him or not, it's not gonna happen between us. Anthony, I chose to be with you, and I'm serious about it. Don't overthink it."
But Anthony felt heavy-hearted. "Teresa, it's not that I'm overthinking. I just feel like I don't belong in your world. I'm really lost here."
Teresa didn't know what to say. "Anthony, I..."
Anthony cut her off, "Teresa, I want to come pick you up right now. If you let me, I'll believe you chose me. If not, I won't bother you anymore."
Teresa thought for a moment, feeling troubled. "Anthony, I'm sorry, it's really not a good time today. Alex asked me to stay and keep Katherine company."
Anthony let out a bitter laugh. "I get it. I won't bother you anymore. Goodbye."
He hung up, leaving Teresa feeling a bit dazed. Did they just break up?
But she didn't feel much, no sadness or upset.
Teresa stood there holding the phone for a long time until Katherine came out of the bathroom and asked, "What's up?"
Teresa snapped out of it, put away the phone, and shook her head. "Nothing, Katherine. Come on, let's eat the barbecue. Alex got it just for you, and it'll be gone soon."
Katherine wasn't really hungry, but she hadn't had that barbecue in a while and wanted to try it again.
They went back to the living room and sat down.
Jonathan and Bernard weren't interested in the barbecue and were sitting in the wicker chairs by the floor-to-ceiling window, chatting.
"Bernard, you're not being honest," Jonathan said, pretending to be mad.
Bernard kept glancing at Katherine on the sofa, clearly concerned about her. "How am I not being honest?"
Jonathan took a sip of his coffee. "Katherine's been staying with you, and you didn't tell me. I was looking for her for days. Even today, when she got kidnapped, you didn't inform me. Do you think that's honest? I thought we were best friends."
Bernard glanced at him and said bluntly, "What's your relationship with Katherine? Why should I report her situation to you?"
Jonathan said, "Katherine and I are still friends for now. And you know I like her. As a friend, shouldn't you be helping me out here?"
Bernard scoffed, "Don't kid yourself. You're not good enough for Katherine."
Jonathan raised an eyebrow. "I'm not good enough, but Alex is? Bernard, am I worse than your arch-enemy Alex?"
Bernard frowned. "He's not good enough either, but Katherine likes him."
Jonathan's face tightened for a moment, then he sneered, "So you're just gonna ignore the family feud and let Katherine marry into the enemy family?"
Bernard said seriously, "It wasn't easy for me to find Katherine. I don't want to make her unhappy. Whatever she wants, I'll give it to her. Even if she marries into the Melville family, I'll keep an eye on her. If Alex dares to hurt her, I'll make sure he pays."
Jonathan stared at Bernard for a moment, then pretended to be scared. "That's really terrifying."
Bernard was indifferent. "If you're scared, stay away from me."
Jonathan laughed, "Bernard, what about me? I'll treat Katherine better than Alex."
Bernard said bluntly, "She doesn't like you."
Jonathan's smile froze, then he shrugged. "She doesn't like me now, but that doesn't mean she won't in the future, right?"
Bernard narrowed his eyes. "Katherine is like me. If she doesn't like someone from the start, she'll never like them."
Jonathan found it boring and waved his hand. "You're really no fun. Do you even have a crush on someone? I've never seen you like anyone all these years. Katherine is nothing like you; you're asexual."
Jonathan put down his coffee and stood up. "I'm done talking to you. I'm going to try my luck with Katherine."
Bernard was displeased but didn't stop him, just letting him go.
Winning over Katherine wasn't going to be easy.
Katherine was eating a skewer when Jonathan suddenly came over to sit in the empty seat next to her, and said with a smile, "Katherine, you seem to be enjoying that. Can I try the one you're eating?"
Katherine glanced at him. "If you want to try, go ahead."
She meant the ones on the table, but Jonathan directly took the half-eaten one from her hand and started eating it.
She hadn't expected that and didn't have time to refuse. He had already eaten it, and it was pointless to take it back.
Ignoring Jonathan, Katherine decided not to eat anymore and picked up her water to drink.
Jonathan took a bite and smiled, "It does taste good. Katherine, if you like it, I can buy it for you often."
Katherine took a sip of water and declined indifferently, "No need. I'll buy it myself when I want to eat."
Jonathan smiled, "I mean, when it's inconvenient for you, I can get it for you."
Katherine said, "No need, I can order delivery myself."
Jonathan sighed, "So, no chance at all?"
Katherine looked at him. "What chance do you want?"
Jonathan said bluntly, "A chance to be your future boyfriend."
Katherine laughed, "Don't even think about it. There's no chance."
Jonathan pretended to be frustrated and sighed, "Katherine, are you really planning to forgive Alex?"
Nearby, Frank and Ambrosia knew Jonathan's intentions but didn't get involved. They trusted that Katherine could handle it.
