Chapter 353 Katherine's Cruel Heart!

Scarlett dropped to her knees, holding lifeless Charles, sobbing uncontrollably.

"Charles, my Charles, wake up! Look at Mommy! It's my fault; I'm late! Charles!"

Katherine, also expecting, felt a pang of sorrow seeing the scene.

She stayed alert, scanning the storage room to ensure they were alone.

Scarlett's screams quickly drew a crowd.

"Scarlett, what's wrong?"

Bernard rushed in, his face tense.

Scarlett clutched the child, crying non-stop, almost collapsing. "Bernard! Charles... he's not breathing."

Bernard knelt, checking for breath. Finding none, his hand trembled. He closed his eyes in sorrow, taking a deep breath.

Alex walked in, his pupils constricting at the sight. "What happened?"

Hearing Alex, Scarlett lifted her tear-streaked face. "Alex, Charles... he's been murdered."

Alex's brow furrowed. He knelt to touch Charles' small hand. It was still warm, but the child had no breath left.

He had recently helped Scarlett adopt Charles. Though they were not related by blood, he felt deep sorrow and regret.

Such a well-behaved child, not even two years old.

Bernard suddenly snapped out of it, stood up, and sternly ordered his subordinates, "Investigate! Find the murderer, and I'll make sure he suffers the consequences!"

"Yes, Mr. Mitchell!"

Someone responded and left, while others stayed, mourning Charles.

Suddenly, Scarlett cried out, "Bernard, no need to investigate. The murderer is right here. I saw it."

Her words caused an uproar, everyone looking at each other.

Bernard's expression froze. "Scarlett, you saw it? Who is it?"

Scarlett's tear-filled eyes turned resentful as she looked at Katherine. "It's her!"

Katherine, silently praying for the child, frowned at the accusation. She was surprised but not too surprised, given Scarlett's acting skills.

Bernard was stunned, his angry eyes fixed on Katherine. "Did you do it?!"

Alex, kneeling by Charles, also looked at her. His deep eyes revealed no emotion.

Everyone glared at Katherine, the 'murderer' who harmed a child.

Because of Scarlett's words, Katherine became the target of everyone's anger. She regained her composure and calmly said, "I didn't do it."

Scarlett, in her grief, looked at her. "Katherine, the murder weapon is still in your hand. How can you deny it?"

Scarlett showed the blood on her hand to everyone. "I saw it with my own eyes; you used a chisel to hit Charles on the head! He's so small. How could you do it!"

Everyone's eyes followed Scarlett's lead, seeing the chisel in Katherine's hand and becoming more convinced she was the murderer.

Katherine looked down at the chisel Scarlett had forced into her hand, realizing it was a trap—a meticulously designed trap.

It all started when Scarlett invited her to talk in the living room. When that didn't work, Scarlett sent a maid with a bloody coffee cup to lure her to this 'crime scene.'

Scarlett's acting was too good. Her earlier frantic worry for Charles seemed genuine. Katherine thought Scarlett cared about Charles beyond just using him. But Scarlett had really killed an innocent child to frame her—a method too inhumane.

Katherine realized she was wrong to have considered Scarlett a decent person.

Scarlett, still crying, said, "Katherine, I know you and Alex made up today, so you're worried about Charles getting in the way of your relationship, but you can't hurt a child like this! Alex helped me adopt Charles. I promised you in the living room that Charles and I wouldn't bother you and Alex again. Why couldn't you let Charles go? He's just a child, not even two years old!"

Scarlett lied without hesitation. Katherine, looking at her sarcastically, coldly retorted, "Scarlett, you know he's just a poor child under two? Did you show him any mercy when you used him?"

Scarlett's eyes flickered with guilt but she didn't respond to Katherine. Instead, she turned her grief-stricken face to Bernard and Alex.

"Bernard, Alex, I don't think Katherine will admit it! Let me tell you what happened!

I found Charles in the kitchen, playing hide-and-seek. I told him off for worrying me, and he promised not to do it again. But then Katherine showed up with a chisel and hit Charles on the back of the head. I watched helplessly as Charles fell. I never thought Katherine would harm Charles. I didn't even have time to stop her. She killed my Charles. It was her—Katherine killed Charles! My Charles died so tragically."

As Scarlett described the events, she broke down crying again, making her story seem more believable. Ironically, everyone believed Scarlett, feeling her pain of losing a child.

Bernard, deeply trusting his sister, suppressed his anger and coldly asked, "Katherine, do you confess?"
