Chapter 762 The Timing of His Amnesia Is Too Convenient
"That's not true!" Bernard felt a pang of heartache seeing Katherine's red eyes. "Katherine, he's not the Alex you used to know. He doesn't remember you. I'm afraid you won't be able to handle it."
Katherine curled her lips sarcastically, "You helped him hide it from me, which makes you just as guilty! I won't trust you anymore."
With that, she turned to leave, intending to catch up with Alex and get to the bottom of it.
Bernard pulled her back, holding her tightly in his arms, gently stroking her hair to calm her down. "Katherine! Calm down. Calm down, please."
Katherine's heaving shoulders gradually settled. She took a deep breath with her eyes closed and asked, "Why? Why is he with Sophia?"
Seeing that Katherine had finally calmed down a bit, Bernard truthfully explained, "Alex isn't really with Sophia. He's being controlled by her and has no freedom. However, he has indeed lost his memory and doesn't remember anything from the past, including you."
Katherine was silent.
Taking advantage of her calmness, Bernard put his arm around her shoulders and led her back to the suite, to avoid running into Sophia and Alex again.
Back in the suite, Bernard and Katherine stood by the hotel’s floor-to-ceiling window as he disclosed everything he knew to her.
After listening, Katherine's face showed no obvious emotion. She just quietly looked out the window.
Downstairs was the hotel garden, featuring beautifully manicured plants and charming fountains.
Next to the fountain, Sophia was pushing Alex, who was in a wheelchair, and a child was with them.
Katherine squinted her eyes. "So, that child next to him is also mine? I gave birth to three children back then?"
At this point, Bernard couldn't hide it from her anymore.
He nodded, "Yes."
However, he didn't tell Katherine about Julian and George being switched, fearing it would further upset her.
Katherine nodded calmly. "You all conspired to hide this from me, and you did a great job! If Sunny hadn't called me here today, I guess you wouldn't have told me any of this."
Bernard was silent. He had to admit that if Katherine hadn't run into Alex today, he would have kept it hidden for a while longer.
Because he felt that Katherine wasn't ready to know these things yet, knowing would only add to her troubles.
But now it was too late to say anything. She had seen it and knew it. Now, they had to prevent Katherine from doing anything irrational.
Katherine just stared downstairs in silence for a long time, then looked at her watch. "I need to pick up my kids. I'm leaving!"
At this moment, Bernard couldn't let her leave alone and followed her out. "I'll go with you to pick them up."
Katherine didn't refuse or stop him. "You can come with me, but don't let that family of three out of your sight! I haven't figured out how to deal with this yet."
Bernard said, "Don't worry, Billy is watching them. They won't get away."
Katherine sneered, "I hope so!"
Sunny finally understood what was going on. The man living with Sophia was the long-lost Alex!
And he was not only physically disabled but also had amnesia and didn't remember anyone.
Sunny felt really sorry for Katherine. He knew how hard it had been for her to raise three kids while searching for Alex. Finally, she found him, only to discover he had amnesia and was living with another woman!
Anyone would be devastated by this!
No wonder Bernard had secretly come to the hotel, afraid that Katherine would find out and be hurt.
But he had backfired!
Now, not only did he have to worry about Katherine's feelings, but he also had to worry about getting beaten up by Bernard!
Sunny muttered to himself as he followed Bernard and Katherine into the car to pick up the kids from preschool.
Among the three kids at the preschool, one was adopted by Alex and his sister. Because Scarlett had made a mistake and Alex had disappeared, Katherine had been raising Charles alone all these years.
And he knew that Katherine had always treated Charles as her own, without any favoritism, which was something most women couldn't do.
Such a good-hearted woman had faced so many challenges in her love life.
Katherine sat in the middle, looking dazed and lost in thought. Bernard was very worried about her mental state, occasionally patting her shoulder.
Sunny was also concerned about Katherine and wanted to hold her hand to comfort her, but she refused.
Her hands were cold, and she didn't want to be touched or pitied.
She felt that the current situation was ironic, ridiculous, and laughable.
She was the last to know that she had given birth to three children!
In other words, the Melville family, Ambrosia, and Frank had all conspired to hide from her that she had lost a child.
And back then, when she was giving birth, she thought she saw Alex in the delivery room and even bit his arm hard. It wasn't an illusion.
It had really happened. She had seen Alex, and he had taken the opportunity to steal her firstborn from the delivery room!
Now, according to Bernard, Alex had lost his memory and didn't remember why he took the child or if he even did.
His amnesia was too convenient!
Did amnesia mean he didn't have to be responsible for all the promises he made back then?
Although he was in a wheelchair, he seemed very natural and comfortable with Sophia.
Maybe he didn't want to regain his memory now.
Perhaps the amnesia wasn't even real?
The most important thing was that child!
That was her child, the one she carried for ten months. How could he take the child to livewith Sophia?
Now, whether Alex had amnesia or would regain his memory was not the most important thing to Katherine!
The most important thing was to get her child back safely. That was her child and didn't belong to anyone else!
If Alex wanted to stay with Sophia, so be it, but her child was absolutely not staying!
