Chapter 286 Whose Car to Get On
Katherine didn't hesitate. "Yep! Scarlett's faking it. There's no use trying to wake someone who's pretending. Mr. Mitchell, you can apologize to me on Scarlett's behalf!"
Bernard stayed silent.
No one had ever demanded such an apology from him so boldly before.
Alex, sitting nearby and smoking, smirked with narrowed dark eyes as he watched Katherine demand an apology from Bernard. He felt a mix of admiration and mockery.
Katherine was still the same.
No matter where she was or who she faced, she never backed down, never stayed silent, and always stood up for herself.
Bernard had finally met his match!
Alex blew out a smoke ring. The more he admired Katherine, the more it irked him.
He remembered how she never took him seriously, how she ran off without a word and even married someone else.
Jonathan's gaze at Katherine was filled with amusement.
Katherine looked like a cute girl, but she had the spirit of a fearless heroine. She even dared to make her boss apologize. Interesting!
Bernard stayed silent for a long time. Seeing that Katherine wasn't joking or backing down, he finally spoke coldly, "I'm sorry, Ms. Galatea. We wronged you today. Satisfied?"
Katherine smiled. "Alright, I accept your apology! Now, as compensation, please approve my half-day leave this afternoon, Mr. Mitchell!"
Bernard frowned, glaring at her incredulously.
Katherine smiled and explained, "This incident has exhausted me. I want to go home and rest this afternoon. I believe a reasonable person like you, Mr. Mitchell, won't deny my request, right?"
He had never seen a girl so adept at fighting for her rights!
Bernard snorted indifferently. "Go home and rest if you want. If you don't want to come to the office, you can stay away forever."
Katherine put on a professional smile. "Don't worry, I'll be at work on time tomorrow. See you tomorrow, Mr. Mitchell!"
Bernard squinted, coldly staring at Katherine for a minute. He did admire her unyielding attitude, but that didn't mean he liked her.
Then, Bernard walked past Katherine and strode out of the restaurant.
Katherine shrugged, not caring about Bernard's attitude.
She cheerfully chatted with the restaurant owner, "Sorry for the trouble, ma'am. We must have affected your business. We'll leave now!"
"No, no." The restaurant owner couldn't understand the relationships and conflicts between these people, so she just smiled politely and said some polite lies.
Katherine had drunk a lot of water and needed to use the restroom again. When she turned around, she noticed Alex, who had been sitting there smoking and watching the show, was gone. He must have left.
Scarlett had just fainted, so he probably went to check on her!
A cold sneer curled Katherine's lips as she walked slowly to the restroom.
After leaving the restaurant, Katherine planned to hail a cab home, but two flashy luxury cars blocked her path at the entrance of Tranquil Lily Cafe.
One was Alex's usual ride, a limited edition Mercedes business car.
The other was Jonathan's sleek sedan, low-key but definitely high-end.
But the car owners were even more eye-catching than the cars.
Alex stood tall and imposing in front of his car, his expression stern and cold. When he saw Katherine come out, he said, "Get in!"
Jonathan, however, leaned casually against the hood of his car, gesturing to her. "Katherine, come here. I'll give you a ride home!"
Katherine stood silently, wondering what these two were up to. Posing as car models?
And didn't Alex leave? Shouldn't he be checking on the mother of his child who fainted?
Seeing she hadn't made a choice, Alex's dark eyes deepened, his patience thinning. "Katherine, come here!"
Jonathan wasn't backing down either, smiling brightly. "Katherine, come on! I have delicious chocolate in my car for you!"
Katherine didn't want to say a word.
Passersby kept glancing at them, some even stopping to watch the drama of two men vying for one woman.
Faced with two handsome men, what choice would she make?
Katherine raised an eyebrow, looking at the man on the left and then at the man on the right. It seemed she had made up her mind as she took a big step forward.
People watched her every move closely, only to see her walk nonchalantly through the gap between the two cars and headed straight into the nearby subway station without a backward glance.
In the end, she chose neither, not interested in either of them!
People couldn't help but feel it was a pity. Either of these handsome guys would be a great catch!
But the girl didn't even spare them a glance?
Maybe she was already beautiful enough and didn't lack men around her.
The anticipated love triangle drama didn't unfold, but people didn't disperse. Some stayed to look at the cars, others at the handsome guys.
Eventually, people reluctantly walked away, deterred by Alex's icy demeanor.
As he watched Katherine enter the subway station, Alex's face remained expressionless, devoid of any emotion. After a moment of silence, he moved to get into the back seat, which the driver had respectfully opened.
Jonathan called out, "Alex!"
Alex stopped, looking at him indifferently, waiting for him to continue.
Jonathan walked over, smiling gentlemanly yet with a hint of provocation. "Alex, I think the most important thing for you now is to go to the hospital and check on Scarlett."
Alex raised an eyebrow. "No need to worry."
Although she had initially planned to take a cab, Katherine ended up taking the subway home because ofo the two men.
Luckily, it wasn't rush hour, or the crowded environment would be very unfriendly to her as a pregnant woman!
Thirty minutes later, she reached the destination.
She leisurely walked out of the subway station and strolled home. As she passed a quiet alley, everything went black as a sack was thrown over her head!
"That should be her, right?"
