Chapter 416 Giving Katherine Saffron Tea

The nanny heard the noise outside and rushed in, worried. "Ms. Mitchell, what's going on? Did Charles upset you again? He's just a kid and doesn't understand. Please don't be mad at him."

Scarlett, already annoyed, snapped, "I told you to get out! Who asked for your opinion?"

The nanny quickly lowered her head. "Ms. Mitchell, I didn't mean to."

Scarlett, fuming, slapped the nanny. "You didn't mean to? Then why did you come in without permission? I asked you to take care of Charles, and now he cries every time he sees me! Am I a monster? It's all your fault!"

The nanny, holding her face, explained, "I didn't teach Charles anything bad. It's your first time being a mom, and it's normal to lose patience sometimes. If you're more patient, he won't be scared of you."

Scarlett slapped her again. "Are you saying I'm impatient? Do I need you to teach me how to be a good mother? You're nobody!"

The slap was so hard the nanny fell to the ground, crying.

Seeing his nanny on the floor, Charles cried even louder.

Since the nanny hadn't closed the door, Bernard, who was about to go downstairs, saw Scarlett slapping the nanny.

"What are you doing?"

Bernard walked in, looking stern. Seeing both the nanny and Charles crying, he asked, "Scarlett, what's going on?"

Scarlett panicked when she saw Bernard. She quickly changed her expression, ran to him, and cried, "Bernard, you're just in time. This nanny is terrible! She fed Charles hot food and burned his mouth! When I confronted her, she denied it and talked back! I got so angry I hit her!"

Bernard looked at Scarlett, then at the crying Charles with his red mouth, and asked the nanny, "Is this true?"

Scarlett's eyes flickered with panic. Bernard was actually asking the nanny. He used to believe her without question!

The nanny, standing up, saw Scarlett's warning look. Fearful, she thought about how Bernard usually protected Scarlett, realizing that telling the truth might not help.

In the end, the nanny didn't dare to tell the truth. "Mr. Mitchell, I didn't mean to..."

Bernard frowned. "If you can't take good care of a child, pack your things and leave."

The nanny nodded helplessly, looked back at Charles, and then left.

Scarlett sighed in relief and leaned into Bernard's arms. "Bernard, that nanny was really too much! If I hadn't caught her, who knows how she would have treated Charles!"

Bernard gently pushed her away. "If you think others can't take care of your child, then do it yourself. Charles is your responsibility; don't expect others to care more than you do."

Scarlett was stunned. She felt a distance between her and Bernard that hadn't been there before.

"I understand, Bernard. I'll take care of Charles myself from now on."

"Okay."

Bernard responded indifferently. Then he noticed Charles was no longer on the bed. "Where's Charles?"

Scarlett looked around. "Did he run out with the nanny?"

Bernard quickly asked the nearby servants, but none had seen Charles leave. He then noticed the open balcony door, which connected to other rooms.

"He must have gone to another room from the balcony. He couldn't have gone far. Split up and find him quickly!"

"Yes, sir!"

After instructing the servants, Bernard headed downstairs.

Scarlett followed him. "Bernard, where are you going? Aren't you going to help find Charles?"

"He won't get lost. I'm going to the kitchen."

"Why the kitchen?"

"We have an important guest today. I'm going to add a few dishes for her."

Scarlett frowned. "You can just tell the servants. Are you going to cook personally?"

Bernard, not wanting to explain further, said sternly, "Don't follow me. Focus on finding Charles!"

Scarlett stopped, unsatisfied. She had never tasted a dish personally cooked by Bernard! How important was Katherine that Bernard would cook for her?

Alice, disturbed by the search for Charles, found Scarlett. "Why is Charles missing again?"

Scarlett didn't care if he was found. She'd be happy if he were lost since he was of no use to her anymore. She wanted to tell her mother about Katherine, her rival in love, and ask for help dealing with her.

Alice said, "The same Katherine competing with you for Alex is the one who saved Grandpa. What a coincidence!"

"Coincidence? I think it's a trap by Katherine to get close to Grandpa and gain benefits from the Mitchell family!"

Alice's eyes turned thoughtful. "Scarlett, do you still have those low-alcohol fruit wines you bought abroad?"

Scarlett looked puzzled. "I have a lot! Mom, why do you want those?"

Alice smiled confidently. "Saffron is good for beauty and health in small amounts, but in large quantities, it's an excellent abortifacient! It can damage the uterus and cause infertility. Scarlett, we were worried about how to get rid of the child in Katherine's womb, but now she's delivered herself to us!"
