Chapter 302 Scarlett's Gift
Katherine stayed cool and kept her distance from Scarlett. "Miss Mitchell, since you put so much thought into this gift, there shouldn't be any problems. Even if I gave feedback now, there wouldn't be time to change anything. The real value of a gift is in the thought behind it. As long as that's there, outside opinions don't matter. I don't think my input is needed," Katherine said.
Scarlett, with her innocent look, tried to link arms with her again. "Katherine, you're right! The thought behind the gift is what counts, but I want my thoughts to be perfect! And you can still give me advice now; there's time to make changes! I have two options for my grandpa's gift, and I can't decide which one to pick! That's why I need your help! The gift is in the rehearsal hall behind the stage. It won't take much of your time!"
Katherine wasn't swayed by Scarlett's innocent act and felt a twinge of annoyance. But she couldn't lash out at Scarlett. So, she stepped back, using a tall guy as a shield to evade Scarlett's grasp.
Scarlett followed, but stopped when she encountered the tall guy. She glanced up at him with a sweet expression and whispered, "Alex, let me through. I need Katherine's help with my grandpa's gift!"
Alex didn't budge, just looked down at Scarlett and said coldly, "She's just here for fun today. No need for an outsider to see your grandpa's gift."
Katherine was taken aback; the word "outsider" from Alex made her eyes flicker, and a cold, sarcastic smile appeared on her lips.
Scarlett, hearing "outsider" from Alex, was secretly pleased. So, to Alex, Katherine was just an outsider now! That made her feel better!
Scarlett pretended to be a bit annoyed, then obediently said, "Alright. Alex, I was just unsure about which outfit to wear on stage, so I wanted Katherine, as a fellow girl, to help me choose."
Alex squinted, his tone unchanged. "Not every woman knows how to pick clothes. If you want help, find someone who dresses well, not just any woman."
Katherine frowned. What did he mean by that? Was he implying she lacked style, taste, and couldn't choose clothes?
Hearing Alex's words, Scarlett was even more certain that Alex really disliked Katherine now. Without arguing, she simply smiled sweetly, tugged at his sleeve, and softly said, "Alex, you're right! Can you help me choose an outfit? I value your taste the most!"
Before Alex could respond, Sunny frowned and piped up, "Sis, didn't you say only girls could see Grandpa's gift early? Now you're letting Alex help? Is Alex a girl?"
Scarlett's face tightened, then she forced a shy smile and awkwardly scolded, "Sunny, you're still a kid! Alex and I are adults. He can give me more mature advice!"
Sunny crossed his arms and grumbled, "I'm an adult now, not a kid! Sis, you're just favoring your boyfriend over your brother!"
Scarlett's face turned even redder, embarrassed by Sunny's teasing, but there was a hint of sweetness in her eyes, showing she didn't actually mind.
Alex's expression remained unchanged, as if he wasn't the one being teased along with Scarlett.
Scarlett looked up at his unreadable face again and asked, "Alex, can you help me pick an outfit now?"
Alex was silent for a couple of seconds before responding indifferently, "Let's go."
Scarlett nodded happily. "Alright, Alex. I'll take you there. It's just behind the stage!"
Alex, with his hands in his pockets, started walking towards the stage, never looking back at Katherine, who had used him as a shield.
Scarlett followed beside Alex, and as they walked, she suddenly turned back to look at Katherine, giving her a triumphant smile.
Katherine felt relieved to be free from Scarlett's pestering and didn't care about Scarlett's gloating smile.
Sunny pouted as he approached. "Katherine, my sister just asked you to help her with the gift. Why didn't you go? That's ungrateful of you! I wanted to see it too, but she wouldn't let me!"
Katherine glanced at Sunny. "Why should I go? It's your grandpa's gift, not mine. What does it matter if I see it or not? Besides, it seems your sister's gift is quite impressive. Everyone will get to see it eventually, so there's no rush."
Sunny answered, "True!"
Katherine wasn't interested in seeing what Scarlett had prepared, mainly because she was wary of Scarlett using it as an opportunity to cause trouble and frame her.
Today was different from before. It was at her mom's house, and it was her grandpa's birthday!
She wasn't here to reconnect with her family, but she didn't want to cause any trouble and ruin her grandpa's birthday party.
She had experienced Scarlett's tricks many times; that woman had an angelic face but a devilish heart with no bottom line.
Scarlett's insistence onshowing her the gift was likely another ploy!
Fortunately, Alex had helped her out. Even though he had insulted her a bit, he had indeed helped her.
At this moment, Sunny's face suddenly changed. "Oh no! Bernard is here, I need to hide, or I'll be sent home to do homework! Katherine, remember, don't let him know I brought you here!"
Katherine nodded, gave him an OK gesture, and then watched Sunny run off.
This was more like a cat-and-mouse game than a sibling reunion!
