Chapter 702 No Regrets
When Frank and Ambrosia walked into the Mitchell mansion, they were greeted by a loud crash from upstairs as soon as they stepped into the living room.
They both glanced up, curious.
Katherine, who was on the couch playing puzzles with Charles, heard it too. She gently patted Charles on the head, worried the noise might have startled him.
She looked upstairs and then turned to Frank and Ambrosia. "Oh, don't worry about it! Mr. Sunny Mitchell just got back. No clue who ticked him off this time."
Frank chuckled, giving Ambrosia a knowing look. "Yeah, I wonder who got on his nerves this time!"
Ambrosia shot him a cold look, too uninterested to reply, and instead asked Katherine, "Katherine, I heard Mr. Melville went to Markovia again?"
Katherine instinctively glanced at her phone on the table.
It was still silent; Alex had promised to call her once he landed.
Frank noticed her glance and smiled reassuringly. "Waiting for Mr. Melville's call, huh? Don't stress, it takes at least twenty hours to fly to Markovia. He can't get there that fast!"
Katherine suddenly realized she had been so focused on waiting for the call that she forgot about the long flight.
Pregnancy brain got to every mom.
Rubbing her temples, she sighed, looking exhausted.
Frank moved closer, trying to comfort her. "Katherine, don't worry, Mr. Melville is tough; he'll be fine!"
Katherine looked at Frank. "Did you find any info or photos of Brent like I asked?"
Frank shook his head, looking regretful. "I've been searching, but no luck. Summit Innovations Group has a tight network, and Brent is super cautious. All I found were some vague details about his age and a few stories online, no photos."
Katherine frowned even more.
She had heard some pretty scary stories about Brent, and he sounded like a ruthless guy who didn't hesitate to kill.
With Alex going to meet him, she couldn't help but worry!
Just then, a small hand tugged at hers. "Kate, Charles is sleepy."
Charles had put down his half-finished puzzle and was rubbing his eyes.
Katherine smiled and patted his head. "Alright, let's get you to bed!"
Charles nodded obediently.
Seeing this, Frank and Ambrosia exchanged a look; Katherine really seemed like a mom now!
Katherine stood up with Charles and said to Frank and Ambrosia, "There's nothing more here, you two should head home and get some rest! Frank, keep digging for info on Brent, and let me know if you find anything!"
Frank nodded. "Got it, Katherine!"
Then, Katherine took Charles upstairs.
Seeing that Katherine seemed okay, Frank and Ambrosia felt relieved and were about to leave.
Just then, Bernard appeared.
Frank greeted him with a smile. "Mr. Mitchell, still up this late?"
Bernard glanced up at Katherine and Charles, who had already gone upstairs, then looked back at Frank seriously. "Even if you find anything about Brent, you can't tell her."
Frank paused, "Why not?"
Bernard sighed, "Look, we both know what kind of guy Brent is. If Katherine finds out about his past, do you think she'll be able to relax and have her baby in peace? She's already worried sick about Alex, even if she doesn't show it. So, to keep her calm, don't tell her anything you find out. Knowing too much will just stress her out more."
Frank squinted and smirked, "Didn't expect you to care so much about Katherine. Remember how you used to give her a hard time for your half-sister Scarlett? It's like night and day now!"
Bernard felt a twinge of shame, knowing Frank was right. He wasn't angry, though; he deserved the mockery for all the terrible things he'd done.
Katherine still hadn't forgiven him or accepted him as her brother.
"Don't worry, I know I've got a lot to make up for. I'll take good care of her. You two should head home, and remember, don't tell her too much for now."
Frank nodded, "I hope you can be a decent brother, Mr. Mitchell."
With that, he waved and left the mansion with Ambrosia.
Just as they stepped out, hurried footsteps echoed down the stairs.
Bernard didn't need to look up to know it was Sunny coming down.
"Why are you rushing down now? Ambrosia's already gone!"
Sunny ran to the floor-to-ceiling window, watching Ambrosia leave, clenching his fists as if making some big decision.
Seeing Sunny like this, Bernard couldn't help but worry. "Instead of wasting time, you should focus on your studies and become someone capable. Only then will you be worthy of pursuing the girl you like. Otherwise, what can you offer her?"
Bernard's words were harsh, and Sunny, watching Ambrosia get into the car, turned back to face him, looking dejected.
"Bernard, I want to study abroad!"
Bernard was about to head upstairs when he heard Sunny's words. He stopped, surprised, and turned back. "What did you just say?"
Sunny looked up, more determined than ever. "I said I want to study abroad. Didn't you find a school for me before? I'm ready to go now!"
Bernard had been frustrated with Sunny's repeated exam failures and didn't expect him to get into a good college on his own. Sunny had never been a good student, and in the domestic environment, it was tough for him to get into college.
So, Bernard had found a strict elite school abroad, planning to send Sunny there for some serious reform.
But Sunny had always resisted the idea, even threatening to commit suicide if forced to go.
Bernard couldn't risk that, so the plan was shelved.
Now Sunny was actually volunteering to go?
Bernard needed to be sure. "You really want to go? Think it through! If you regret it later, I won't soften and bring you back. Adults have to be responsible for their decisions."
Sunny stared back, unwavering. "I've thought it through! I really want to go! No regrets!"
