Chapter 241 Katherine, Your Good Days Are Over
Katherine lounged at her desk, eyeing Sophie without denying her words. "Yeah, that's right. Miss Jones. You really should be in jail right now!"
Sophie had been released on parole just yesterday.
It was Scarlett who had asked Bernard to pull some strings to get Sophie out.
So, at this moment, Sophie, who once had long, wavy hair, now sported the standard shoulder-length cut of female prisoners.
However, she had dyed and styled it overnight, and after some careful grooming, it now looked very fashionable and glamorous.
Thinking about her wrongful imprisonment for over two months, Sophie glared at Katherine with resentment, gritted her teeth, and sneered, "Did you think I'd stay locked up forever? Katherine, you should know that Scarlett and I are best friends. How could she stand by and let you wrong me without taking action?"
Katherine smiled indifferently and then said, "Is that so?"
Seeing Katherine's carefree attitude made Sophie even angrier. "Katherine, your tricks won't deceive everyone. Scarlett has always trusted me! That incident was clearly your doing, trying to make me look bad and mislead Bernard and others! Luckily, it didn't harm anyone. Scarlett had no trouble getting me out with Bernard's help. Your days are numbered now! I'll deal with you soon enough!"
"I'll be waiting," Katherine chuckled, not taking Sophie's threats seriously. She casually started organizing the files on her desk, sorting them out for when Bernard asked for them.
As for the incident at the hospital, it was indeed orchestrated.
But the mastermind wasn't her; it was Scarlett.
From start to finish, it was all Scarlett's plan!
Scarlett, being meticulous, had already planned that if anything went wrong, her good friend Sophie would take the fall for her.
Now, she pretended to be kind by asking Bernard to get Sophie out, just to continue using Sophie as a pawn!
Sophie had a sharp and clever demeanor but lacked intelligence.
In contrast, Scarlett had an angelic and innocent appearance but was highly manipulative and adept at controlling people. She convincingly portrayed herself as a harmless and pitiful girl to those around her. Her methods were top-notch.
However, the Scarlett everyone knew was not her true self!
Sophie frowned as she watched Katherine organize files, scrutinizing her warily, and then asked defensively, "Katherine, are you targeting my Bernard now because you couldn't accept being dumped by Alex and didn't want to go back to being a country girl?"
Katherine raised an eyebrow. "When did Mr. Mitchell become yours, Miss Jones? I haven't heard of that."
Sophie's affection for Bernard was no secret.
She had made it very obvious before, always openly doing flirtatious things to declare her claim over Bernard.
Sophie smiled confidently and said, "Not now, but he will be mine sooner or later! Scarlett promised me that I would be her sister-in-law in the future! And Bernard always listens to Scarlett, so the outcome is obvious, isn't it?"
Bernard's elegant yet cold voice suddenly rang out. "Who wants to be whose sister-in-law?"
Both Sophie and Katherine were stunned and turned to look at the source of the voice.
Bernard looked like he had just returned from outside, his coat casually draped over his arm, every move exuding elegance and nobility.
He walked over slowly, his gaze falling on Sophie, his handsome brow furrowing slightly. "Why are you here? Do you need something?"
The fierceness Sophie had when questioning Katherine was gone, replaced by a gentle and virtuous demeanor as she looked at Bernard and softly replied, "Bernard, I came to thank you for helping me get out yesterday. I also brought some of your favorite dishes in case you haven't had lunch yet. Enjoy them while they're hot; they won't be as good cold."
Bernard glanced at the insulated lunchbox in her hand, his tone indifferent. "You don't need to go to such trouble in the future; the company has a cafeteria."
Sophie shook her head thoughtfully and tenderly, saying, "Eating at the cafeteria all the time isn't good for you! I prepared this healthy meal with less oil and salt. Scarlett suggested it since she noticed you've been busy and losing weight. You wouldn't turn down Scarlett's kindness, would you, Bernard?"
Upon hearing that it was Scarlett's idea, Bernard nodded slightly. "Bring it in then."
With that, he walked past Sophie, heading coldly towards his office.
Before opening the office door, Bernard paused and turned to the secretary's desk, instructing, "Ms. Galatea, get me a cup of coffee."
Katherine stood up and bowed. "Yes, Mr. Mitchell."
After Bernard entered the office, Sophie glared at Katherine with hostility and snorted, "Do you even know Bernard's taste? Do you know how he likes his coffee?"
Katherine honestly shook her head. "No, I don't. It's my first day at work, so I'm not familiar with the boss's preferences yet."
Sophie rolled her eyes disdainfully. "If I weren't afraid you'd mess up the coffee and upset Bernard, I wouldn't tell you! Listen carefully, Bernard has a sweet tooth. He likes ten sugar cubes in his coffee and two creamers. Got it?"
Katherine noted it down. "Okay, I got it. Thank you, Miss Jones."
Sophie was done dealing with Katherine. She didn't want to miss the chance to be alone with Bernard, so she elegantly entered the CEO's office with the insulated lunchbox.
Meanwhile, a sly and expectant smile curved on Sophie's lips, and she glanced at Katherine.
Bernard disliked sugar and cream in his coffee. There would be a good show soon!
When Katherine brought in the sweetened and creamed coffee, it upset Bernard, who would scold her and, hopefully, even kick her out of the Mitchell Group!
That way, this scheming bitch wouldn't have the chance to seduce her Bernard like she did with Alex!
