Chapter 398 It Won't Affect Our Relationship
Katherine sipped the warm water Anton brought her. "So, why do you want Scarlett as your sister-in-law?"
Without missing a beat, Fiona said, "Because Scarlett's beautiful, kind-hearted, and she's always good to me!"
Katherine found this description of Scarlett amusing. "How exactly is she good to you?"
Fiona, clearly fond of Scarlett, replied, "Whenever Scarlett sees a nice bag, she buys one for me too! Even if it's a limited edition she loves, she'll get it for me first. Unlike you, who can't afford anything!"
Katherine shrugged. "I wouldn't buy you designer bags. I don't buy them for myself either. To me, luxury items are just overpriced traps."
Fiona rolled her eyes. "You're so ignorant!"
Katherine smiled. "Ever wonder why she gives you expensive gifts, even sacrificing her favorites? Is it because of you or because your brother is Alex?"
Fiona was stunned. She'd never thought about it. She was always just happy to show off Scarlett's gifts.
"Are you saying Scarlett is using me? That's ridiculous! Scarlett is the Mitchell family's darling! She's the kindest, most innocent person I know. She doesn't have your twisted thoughts!"
Katherine shrugged. "Just think about what I said."
She stood up and added, "By the way, I might not buy you a bag, but I'll give you a gift tomorrow."
Fiona eyed her suspiciously. "What kind of gift?"
Katherine didn't spill. "You'll see."
Fiona rolled her eyes again. "Stop being mysterious! You can't win me over with a gift. Scarlett's the only one for me!"
Katherine yawned. "After dinner, make sure to clean the house. If Alex wakes up to a mess, I won't stop him from scolding you."
With that, Katherine stepped over the mess and headed upstairs.
Fiona glared at her back. "So annoying!"
The house was a disaster. How was she supposed to clean it up?
If she knew how to do housework, she would've done it already.
And those things Katherine said—she didn't want to listen, but she was starting to reflect on them.
Looking at the food Katherine brought back, she found it plain and rough.
Did Alex really go to such an unassuming restaurant with Katherine?
But the taste was alright. While complaining, she took another big bite.
When Katherine returned to the room, Alex was still in the bathroom, and she could hear the water running.
She didn't mind and went to the wardrobe to get clean clothes.
As she searched for clothes, she heard the bathroom door open but didn't turn around.
Suddenly, Alex's arms wrapped around her waist from behind. Before she could react, he turned her around, and his freshly showered scent filled the air.
He pressed her against the wardrobe, kissing her urgently.
Katherine thought she might fall backward, but Alex's long arms gently supported her waist, kissing her as if he wanted to spoil her completely.
Finally, she found a moment to breathe. Her eyes were misty, and she was crying from the intensity. "Alex, you promised not to wear me out today!"
Alex's eyes were tender, his voice low and slightly breathless. "I won't, just a kiss."
Seeing him lean in again, Katherine quickly raised her hand to cover his mouth. "Enough, I'm tired."
Alex frowned slightly and moved her hand away. "Why?"
Katherine rolled her eyes. "Because I'm tired!"
Alex had no choice but to gently caress her cheek. "Katherine, why can't you be as infatuated with me as I am with you? Why are you always so indifferent?"
Katherine blushed. "Alex, aren't you embarrassed? Even young couples don't kiss endlessly like you do. And I really am tired."
Knowing she was tired, Alex decided to let it go.
Suppressing his physical desire, he picked her up and gently placed her on the bed.
He then knelt beside her, looking at her tenderly.
He was only wearing a bathrobe, his hair still wet and not styled in his usual slicked-back look, giving him a refreshing boyish charm.
Katherine couldn't help but be mesmerized. His looks were truly stunning!
Seeing her dazed, Alex playfully tapped her nose. "I didn't ask you in the car because Teresa was there. Now tell me, what's going on with you and Bernard? This morning, he actually came to our home for you, and at Moonlight Manor, his attitude towards me changed because of you, right?"
Katherine didn't intend to hide anything and replied honestly, "Well... to be precise, Bernard is my biological brother."
Alex looked surprised. "What's going on?"
Katherine shrugged. "It means that the Mitchell family's long-lost daughter from years ago is me."
Alex looked at her in disbelief. "You're Laura?"
Katherine nodded. "Yes, I think that was my name before."
Alex's expression turned serious as if he was thinking about something important.
Katherine could guess what he was considering. "Alex, don't worry. I won't acknowledge that family, and I don't consider myself a Mitchell. So any grudges between the Melville and Mitchell families won't affect us."
Alex snapped out of his thoughts, smiled, and gently patted her head. "Good girl."
Katherine blinked and asked, "Alex, if the Melville elders find out I'm related to the Mitchell family and strongly oppose us, would you break up with me?"
