Chapter 518 No Need to Surrender

Sophie pulled out her phone from her pocket and handed it to him. She urged him strongly, "Bernard, if you don't believe me, check my call log. I talked to Scarlett several times today, and every call was about how to get rid of Katherine, how to clear our names, and how to make sure Katherine was dead before calling for help. Scarlett was involved in every step of the plan, and she taught me many of the methods!"

Bernard took Sophie’s phone, his cold, long fingers tapping on the screen. He scanned the call logs between Sophie and his half-sister Scarlett, struggling to dismiss Sophie’s claims.

He had long been disappointed in the scheming Scarlett, but he never imagined that this seemingly frail sister could be so ruthless and manipulative.

Bernard looked up, his cold, dark eyes glaring at Scarlett. He said furiously, "If you weren't involved, how do you explain these call logs? Huh?! Scarlett, how could you be so conniving?"

Scarlett shivered at Bernard's shout, wiped her tears with her arm, and claimed persistently, "Bernard, I knew you wouldn't believe me anymore. You believe anything bad anyone says about me... But I can explain these call logs! Every call was me trying to talk Sophie out of doing something stupid.

"I persuaded her, and she verbally agreed, but she still went ahead with it! The last call was her begging me to come to the hospital to clear her name. I refused because I couldn't help a murderer get away with it!"

Sophie found Scarlett's words both frustrating and laughable. "Scarlett, do you even believe what you're saying? You were egging me on! You couldn't wait for me to kill Katherine so you could get back with Alex!" she accused her.

Scarlett looked at her best friend with disappointment. "Sophie, do you have to drag me down with you? Besides, you only have call logs. Your words alone can't prove anything!" she said, trying to discredit Sophie's words.

Sophie sneered, "My words alone? Aren't your words just accusations, too?"

Scarlett sighed, heartbroken. "Of course, I'm not just relying on my words! I have evidence!"

Sophie was taken aback. She questioned, "You have evidence? What evidence? Stop lying!"

Scarlett sniffled, wiped her tears, and took out her phone from her pocket. "I have evidence. It's all on my phone!"

Sophie frowned in confusion. "What? Just more call logs like mine?"

Scarlett replied, her voice trembling, "No, I recorded all the calls. I didn't want to bring this out, but Sophie, you're forcing me. I have no choice..."

"Recordings?" Sophie thought for a moment. "If there are recordings, that's even better. It will prove that you were the one instigating me today!"

With that, Sophie snatched Scarlett's phone, opened the recordings, and turned up the volume. "Bernard, listen! Listen to see if she was hinting and instigating me to get rid of Katherine!"

The recording played the conversation between Sophie and Scarlett. At first, everything seemed normal, and Sophie didn't notice anything unusual.

However, as the conversation progressed, things started to seem off...

In the recording, Scarlett earnestly advised Sophie not to do anything bad and not to trouble Katherine, saying she had let go and moved on.

Meanwhile, Sophie was cursing Katherine, spewing all sorts of nasty things, and finally recounting how she had someone run Katherine over, then asking Scarlett to come to the hospital to clear her name...

Sophie admitted that every word in the recording was hers, but the sequence of the conversation was clearly different! Scarlett's words, many of which she had never heard in the call, were specially edited in later!

Listening to the entire recording, the situation matched Scarlett's account; Scarlett was advising against it the whole time, while Sophie was determined to get rid of Katherine and wanted Scarlett to clear her name.

After the recording finished, Bernard's cold gaze shifted from Scarlett to Sophie, his jaw clenched, and he spat out hatefully, "What did Katherine do to you? Why do you want her dead?"

Sophie was stunned by the turn of events. She wondered helplessly, 'How could this be?'

Her best friend Scarlett had been plotting against her all along, recording her curses and threats against Katherine from long ago and editing them into today's recording!

Katherine was right; Scarlett had never changed. She had been pretending to be pitiful all these years, using her, never truly considering her a friend!

This recording left Sophie speechless. She collapsed to the ground, unable to tell if she was crying or laughing. She asked incredulously, "Scarlett, how could you do this to me? How could you? I trusted you more than my family and considered you more important too. Everything I did was for your happiness!"

Scarlett wore a pained expression, but her eyes showed no sorrow. She rebutted calmly, "Sophie, if you really considered me your best friend, you wouldn't be dragging me into this. Is this what a good friend should be doing? You misunderstood Katherine and Bernard's relationship, got jealous, and harbored a grudge against her, leading to your murderous intent!"

Sophie screamed in despair, "You told me Katherine was pregnant with Bernard's child! How could I have misunderstood that? If you hadn't told me, I wouldn't have known Katherine was pregnant! Now you're washing your hands of it! Scarlett, how could you be like this? You've deceived all of us, you..."

Scarlett no longer spoke to the hysterical Sophie, who seemed to have lost her mind, but looked up at Bernard, once again clarifying for herself, "Bernard, I didn't get along with Katherine and did bad things to her, but I never wanted to threaten her life! Bernard, you know me, right? I may not be pure and kind, but I'm not that vicious and ruthless!"

Bernard looked at Scarlett coldly, saying nothing. No one knew if he believed her or not.

In the end, Bernard said nothing to Scarlett, his hateful gaze turning to Sophie, the culprit. "Will you turn yourself in, or should I take you?" he asked coldly.

Sophie wept silently, shaking her head in despair. She didn't want to face punishment...

At this moment, Alex stood up, his tall figure imposing, his voice cold and sharp like it came from an ice cave. "No need to let her turn herself in."
