Chapter 280 She Took the Kettle!
The boss's eyes narrowed with suspicion. "He should be in the dorm now. He told me he wasn't feeling well and took half a day off. Why do you need him?"
Katherine replied, "I have some questions about the incident where the kid in our private room got burned today."
The boss frowned. "Before you arrived, I talked to him. He denied any involvement in the burn incident. I believe the issues between you guests shouldn't affect our young waiter. He's just trying to make a living; it's not easy for him!"
Katherine smiled and nodded, understanding the owner's concerns. "Don't worry, I just want to ask him a few questions. I won't be too hard on him."
The boss, torn between protecting her employee and not offending the guests, thought for a moment. She stopped a waiter who was cleaning and said, "Go to the dorm and bring Bobby here. Tell him I need to see him."
Soon, Bobby was called from the dorm by his colleague.
Bobby walked in, looking a bit downcast. "Ma'am, did you call for me?"
The boss said, "The guests from the Harmony Garden Retreat private room are here to see you. They have a few questions. Just repeat what you told me earlier. Don't be afraid, just tell the truth!"
Bobby looked up and saw Katherine and the others. His face tensed up, and he pointed at Katherine, shouting, "Ma'am, it's her! She's the one who snatched the kettle from me! I was adding soup to the pot when she suddenly stood up, grabbed the kettle, and poured it on the child's face!"
Everyone turned their accusing eyes towards Katherine, shocked and incredulous.
Katherine confirmed that this was indeed the waiter who had come to add soup at the time.
And his account matched Scarlett's?
Katherine's expression grew complex, not because of the accusing stares, but because of Scarlett's malicious intent.
She knew she hadn't done such a terrible thing, yet Scarlett and the waiter, who should have had no contact, were telling the same lie!
This confirmed that the waiter and Scarlett had been in contact and had coordinated their stories!
Initially, Katherine thought the child's burn was an accident and the waiter had run away out of fear. Scarlett then used the incident to frame her.
But now, she realized the situation was far more sinister!
If Scarlett and the waiter had been in contact and had discussed how to accuse her, it meant the waiter had intentionally hurt the child under Scarlett's orders!
This wasn't an accident; it was a deliberate plan by Scarlett to frame her. Scarlett had even found a waiter to burn her child?!
How could a mother do such a thing?
Katherine was floored by her discovery and the depths of human deceit.
Bernard's voice cut through the tension. "Katherine, the witness has testified against you. What do you have to say for yourself?"
His tone was icy and impatient, as if he was ready to throw her in jail right then and there.
Scarlett, with fake tears in her eyes, chimed in, "Katherine, just admit your mistake. If you show some remorse, I can still plead with Bernard for you!"
Katherine snapped out of her thoughts and looked at the furious Bernard and the deceitful Scarlett.
She smirked. "Mr. Mitchell, how can he be considered a witness?"
Bernard's glare was cold. "Why can't he be a witness? He and Scarlett are strangers, yet their stories match. That says it all."
Strangers? Bernard really didn't see through his sister's lies. Today, she'd make him see the truth.
"Mr. Mitchell, give me ten minutes, and I'll prove why Bobby's testimony is worthless," said Katherine.
Katherine didn't rush to argue. She asked for ten minutes.
Bernard, skeptical but allowing her request, agreed.
Scarlett, confident in her scheme, wasn't worried. She and Bobby had coordinated everything, and the camera's memory card was destroyed. Katherine had no way out.
Katherine calmly asked Bobby, "You said I grabbed the kettle and poured it on the child. Which hand did I use?"
Bobby's eyes flickered, and he glanced at Scarlett, who avoided his gaze.
"It all happened so fast. I don't remember," answered he.
Katherine pressed on. "Okay, if you don't remember, let's try something else. Answer truthfully."
Bobby frowned. "Ask whatever you want. I'm telling the truth!"
Katherine stared into his shifty eyes. "After we left, did you go back into the Harmony Garden Retreat room?"
Bobby shook his head. "No, I didn't!"
Katherine squinted at Bobby. "Are you sure?"
Bobby answered firmly, "I'm sure!"
Katherine nodded. "Alright, remember that."
She turned to the computer engineer Bernard had brought. "Sir, you said all the surveillance footage except for the Harmony Garden Retreat room can be retrieved, right?"
The engineer nodded. "Yes, that's correct."
Katherine smiled. "Then please retrieve the hallway footage outside the Harmony Garden Retreat room to see if Bobby went back in after we left."
Bobby's face went pale, and he looked anxiously at Scarlett.
Damn, Scarlett never expected Katherine to check the surveillance this way!
