Chapter 707 Stop Pretending to Be a Good Person

Sophia slumped by the bedside, her eyes puffy from crying as she gazed at the resting Alex. "Alex, how are you feeling? Does it hurt?" she whispered.

Alex stayed silent, eyes shut tight.

Nora stood nearby, worry etched on her face. She turned to Leander and said, "You must be Mr. Melville's right-hand man. I'm really sorry about what happened. Brent's got a nasty temper, and in his rage, he hurt Mr. Melville! Please know our family will take full responsibility for this. We'll make sure he gets the best care and treatment to get back on his feet."

Leander thought Nora seemed kind, but he wasn't feeling any goodwill towards Brent's family. He said, "Mr. Melville has all the medical resources he needs. Mrs. Coleman, Mr. Melville has already been beaten. I hope Mr. Coleman will keep his promise to Mr. Melville!"

Nora was caught off guard. She hadn't been there and didn't know the details, but she nodded earnestly. "Don't worry, he will definitely keep his promise to Mr. Melville."

Leander replied, "I hope so!"

Meanwhile, Sophia was still by the bedside, tears streaming down her face. "Alex, why are you so stubborn? If you hadn't stood up to my dad, you wouldn't be hurt like this."

Alex stayed unresponsive, eyes closed, breathing steady.

Leander walked over, his tone firm but polite. "Mrs. Sophia Coleman, Mr. Melville needs to rest now. If you have nothing else, it would be best for you to leave and let him recover in peace."

"No, I can't leave! I want to stay here and watch over Alex, be with him..." Sophia shook her head, refusing to go.

Leander frowned. "Mrs. Sophia Coleman, please calm down. You'll disturb Mr. Melville's rest like this!"

Seeing this, Nora gently pulled her aside and persuaded, "Sophia, staying here won't lessen Alex's pain. He needs to rest. You can come back to see him later."

Sophia still looked worried, but after thinking it over, she realized Nora had a point. Alex was seriously injured and needed rest.

After hesitating for a moment, she stood up. "Alex, rest well. I'll come back to see you later."

She turned around, still worried.

At that moment, Alex calmly opened his eyes and said in a cold tone, "Get your documents ready. Tomorrow morning, let's settle this."

Sophia stopped in her tracks, turned around in shock, and looked at the weary Alex on the bed. "Alex, you're so hurt, and you're still thinking about that? Can't it wait?"

Alex remained expressionless. "No. Tomorrow morning, if you don't cooperate, don't blame me for not considering our past."

Seeing his determination, Sophia was silent for a long time before finally nodding. "Okay, I promise you. We'll handle the annulment procedures tomorrow. You rest well and focus on recovering!"

Alex said nothing more, closing his eyes again. His face, apart from looking tired, showed no emotion.

Leaving the guest room, Nora saw Sophia looking hurt and couldn't help but feel for her.

As a woman, she got the pain of loving someone who didn't love you back.

Gently, she tried to comfort her, "Sophia, you can't force love. Since Mr. Melville already has someone in his heart, you shouldn't be so persistent. Believe me, you'll meet a good man who truly appreciates you."

Hearing Nora's words, Sophia's sad expression suddenly turned icy. She glared at Nora. "Are you trying to preach to me? Who do you think you are?"

Nora's face stiffened, feeling a bit helpless and embarrassed. "No, I just don't want you to be sad. I hope you can move on. Sophia, since I'm with your father, I will take care of you as my own child!"

Sophia sneered. "Stop pretending to be a good person! Seeing Alex dump me, you must be secretly laughing at me, right? You don't really wish me well! Let me tell you, don't celebrate too soon. I still have chances! The person I want will be mine, no matter what!"

With that, Sophia stormed off to her room in frustration.

Nora watched Sophia's defiant and extreme back, sighing helplessly.

Being a stepmom wasn't easy. Even if she genuinely cared for Sophia, her intentions were often misunderstood.

At that moment, a small hand tugged at her clothes.

Nora came back to her senses and looked down to see Linda.

Linda looked up at her with a concerned expression. "Mom, did Sophia upset you again?"

Nora smiled and gently patted Linda's head. "No, Sophia just has some misunderstandings about me. It will get better in the future."

Linda frowned. "But it's been so many years, and Sophia has never spoken nicely to you. I don't like Sophia!"

Nora picked up Linda, speaking earnestly, "Linda, you can't think that way about Sophia! No matter how Sophia treats me, she is your sister! When your dad and I are no longer around, Sophia will be your only family in this world. You two must help and support each other, understand?"

Linda didn't want to upset Nora, so she reluctantly nodded. "I understand."

Nora, holding the sensible Linda, went to Brent to have a serious talk with him!

How could he beat Alex like that?

At his age, he still had such a bad temper. It was an old issue resurfacing again!

After putting away Alex's belongings, Leander turned to report to Alex, who was lying on the bed. "Mr. Melville, Mrs. Melville called earlier. I told her you were too tired and had fallen asleep in the car. She asked you to call her back when you wake up."

Alex slowly raised his eyes, his previously exhausted and weak expression now showing a hint of energy. "Bring the phone over. I'll call her back now."

Leander nodded, took Alex's phone, and dialed Katherine's number.

The call was quickly connected, and Katherine's voice came through clearly, tinged with a bit of long-awaited anxiety. "Alex, you're awake?"
