Chapter 566 Really?

Fiona almost smacked her nose on the door. She took a step back, knocked, and hollered, "Katherine, I didn't mean anything by what I said earlier! I was just trying to tell you not to argue with Alex."

Nothing but crickets from inside.

Fiona kept going, "I gave up on hoping Alex would leave you ages ago! Seriously! Don't be mad, okay?"

Still nada.

Fiona was getting ticked off. She'd already apologized, and Katherine was giving her the silent treatment. "Are you really mad? Katherine, you used to be cooler than this! Fine, be mad! But what about Charles? How long do I have to babysit him?"

No matter what Fiona said, it was like talking to a brick wall.

Fiona's brows knitted together. Something was definitely off.

Katherine was acting weird. Usually, if Fiona ticked her off, Katherine would snap back or throw some shade. Today, nothing. Fiona figured something must be up!

Unable to open the door, Fiona didn't stick around and headed downstairs for a glass of water.

Charles was asleep, and the maid was on watch. As long as Charles stayed out, there wouldn't be any immediate drama.

While sipping her water, she mulled over what could be making Katherine act so strange.

Suddenly, she heard some noise at the front door. Snapping out of her thoughts, she looked over to see Alex rushing in and changing his shoes.

Fiona quickly put down her water and walked over, "Alex, you're back!"

Alex, looking all serious, nodded and asked, "Has Katherine come back?"

Fiona nodded, "Yeah! She just went to her room!"

Alex's tense face relaxed a bit, and he let out a sigh of relief.

Fiona blinked and cautiously asked, "Alex, did you guys have a fight?"

Alex paused. "What did she tell you?"

Fiona shook her head, "Nothing, she didn't say anything. She just seemed really down when she got back, so I thought I'd ask."

Alex's expression got a bit more complicated. "We're fine. You should go to bed."

With that, Alex had already changed his shoes and was heading for the stairs.

Fiona pouted, "Alex, Charles is still in my room. What should I do?"

"Keep an eye on him for now," Alex said coldly, not even turning around as he went upstairs.

Fiona rolled her eyes and muttered, "Neither of you takes care of Charles, leaving him to me!"

Rushing upstairs, Alex didn't even try the doorknob, thinking, 'Why does Katherine lock me out again? Leaving without a word, coming back first, and not letting me in? Everything was fine when we went out!'

With a stern face, Alex knocked on the door. After waiting a bit, still no response.

Alex told Anton to bring the spare key and opened the door.

Walking into the room, he caught a whiff of body wash from the bathroom.

Katherine had taken a shower.

Alex was full of annoyance, but when he walked to the bed and saw Katherine curled up asleep, his annoyance melted away.

Katherine looked all peaceful, hugging a pillow like it was her lifeline, almost burying her face in it.

But sleeping like that? No way she could breathe right.

Alex's face softened without him even realizing it. He bent down, gently pulled the pillow from her arms, and set it aside.

Then he carefully adjusted her so she was lying on her back.

After getting her comfy, he looked down at her sleeping face and noticed her brows were all scrunched up, like she was having a bad dream.

Alex reached out, his cool fingertips gently smoothing the wrinkles between her brows.

Then, finding her too adorable, he couldn't help but lean down and kiss her.

The soft, frequent kisses seemed to wake Katherine. She frowned and mumbled in annoyance, "Don't touch me. You're dirty."

Alex paused and looked into her just-opened eyes. "What did you say?"

Katherine still frowned, her gaze calm, but she didn't change her words. "I said you're dirty. Don't touch me!"

Seeing no hint of joking on Katherine's face, Alex was stunned and his expression darkened. "Katherine, have I been too soft on you? Is that why you always treat me like this?"

Katherine turned away, not looking at him, "Yeah! I'm just that unreasonable! You can stay away from me!"

Alex, not known for his good temper, was infuriated by her attitude and commanded, "Turn around and look at me!"

Katherine stayed put and ignored him.

Alex's tone grew harsher. "I said turn around and look at me! Did you hear me?"

Katherine replied, "I don't want to see you right now! Can you leave?"

No one had ever dared to treat him like this! Alex knew he shouldn't get mad at Katherine, who was carrying his child, but his emotions were boiling over!

Suppressing his anger, he tugged at his tie. "I'll say it one more time, turn around and look at me!"

If she didn't turn around, Alex didn't know what he might do in his anger!

This time, Katherine did turn around, not only that, she sat up. "If you won't leave, then I will!"

She got out of bed and put on her shoes in one swift motion, without any hesitation.

Watching her walk away, Alex couldn't contain the anger that had been building up inside. He took a quick step forward and grabbed her!

Forcing her to turn around, he glared down at her and said, "Do you have a problem with me? What did I do to upset you? Speak up! Don't just throw tantrums. Do you think this is how to solve problems?"

Katherine looked at him with extreme sarcasm, "There's nothing between us that needs solving! I just want to sleep alone tonight, okay? Mr. Melville, you do know that even in this country, you can't force your wife to share a bed with you, right? It's illegal."

Alex's pupils dilated, his anger growing. "Do you think I'm stopping you just for that?"

Katherine sneered, "What else? What else do you genuinely want from me? Besides wanting to sleep with me, what else is real?"

Alex felt utterly baffled. "When have I ever deceived you? After all this time, don't you get how I feel about you? What did I do to piss you off? Tell me!"
