Chapter 146 Allergic to Alex
"It hurts. Alex, it hurts. " Her voice trembled slightly, biting her teeth in endurance, her face pale, looking like she couldn't take it anymore.
He paused, his brows furrowing deeply.
He hadn't even touched her. Why was she saying it hurt?
From the beginning, Alex had no intention of hurting her. He just found her really annoying and wanted to scare Katherine a bit!
"Where does it hurt?" asked he.
Katherine frowned in discomfort, her eyelashes fluttering, her eyes red. "My hands... my hands hurt."
Hands?
Alex looked up at her small hands, which were pinned against the makeup mirror, and his pupils suddenly contracted.
The man first released her and then brought her hands up to inspect them.
At this moment, Katherine's small hands were red and swollen, looking like two boiled pig trotters!
The man's brows furrowed tightly, and he asked her in a deep voice, "What's going on? What did you do?"
Katherine weakly shook her head, unable to muster the strength to speak, "I don't know, I didn't... didn't do anything."
Her hands were burning with pain, the unbearable kind, as if they were being fried in hot oil, causing her to break out in a sweat.
Breathing was becoming difficult, and her throat felt like it was stuffed with cotton, so it was uncomfortable.
Before she closed her eyes, she heard Alex calling her name, sounding very anxious. Alex called out, "Katherine! Katherine! Katherine."
The next second, Alex rushed out of the bathroom, holding unconscious Katherine.
When Katherine woke up, she saw only the hospital's white ceiling and the IV drip hanging on the stand.
Her mouth felt dry, and her throat hurt. She tried to get up but couldn't. She wanted to reach for the water on the cabinet, only to find her hands wrapped tightly in bandages. Like Doraemon's hands, they were round and without fingers, unable to hold anything.
She lay helplessly on the hospital bed, looking around. The room was empty and eerily quiet. Just like when she was a child, andher mom took her to the hospital for treatment, then said she was going to buy her a bowl of cereal and told her to wait obediently in the room.
She watched the IV drip empty drop by drop, and her mom never came back. So, she didn't like hospitals.
Feeling down, she suddenly heard a bright voice. "Katherine, you're awake! That's great!"
Katherine looked up at the sound and saw Teresa coming in.
Teresa quickly walked to the bedside, looking very worried. "Katherine, I just went to the restroom, why are your eyes red?"
Katherine forced a smile, her voice hoarse. "It's nothing, I just slept too long."
Teresa nodded and asked, "Do you feel better now? Do you want me to call the doctor to check on you?"
Katherine shook her head and then answered, "No need. Just help me sit up and give me some water. I'm really thirsty."
Teresa quickly complied, carefully helping Katherine sit up and placing a pillow behind her back. Then, she brought the water cup, inserted a straw, and fed it to Katherine.
Katherine originally wanted to take the cup herself, but her hands couldn't hold it, so she had to accept Teresa's help, leaning forward to sip from the straw.
After drinking a lot of water, her throat felt a bit better.
She leaned against the headboard and asked Teresa, "Teresa, why are you here?"
Teresa put down the cup and replied, "Alex called and asked me to buy a set of clean and comfortable underwear for you and bring it to the hospital. I came right after buying it."
Un... underwear?
Katherine suddenly felt a wave of shame, quickly looking down at herself.
She remembered that before she lost consciousness, Alex had locked her in the bathroom and got her all wet!
Now, although she was wearing a hospital gown, her underwear was indeed dry and had been changed!
"Who helped me change my underwear?" she asked, frowning.
Teresa replied, "Katherine, I helped you change, and I also took off your wet clothes!"
Katherine finally breathed a sigh of relief, no longer feeling embarrassed. "That's good!"
Teresa added, "But Alex was also there to help because I couldn't lift you and dress you by myself!"
Katherine felt embarrassed again. "He watched the whole time?"
Teresa waved her finger and then explained, "Alex wanted to watch, but I insisted he turn his face away! Even though you are married, you should still keep some mystery. Otherwise, there won't be any fun in the future!"
Katherine forced a smile. Teresa could be silly sometimes, but she had a point.
Teresa sighed worriedly, holding Katherine's swollen hand tenderly. "Katherine, why is your allergic reaction so severe this time? What did you touch?"
Katherine had guessed it was an allergic reaction as soon as she woke up.
She responded, "I don't know. Maybe I accidentally touched something I'm allergic to."
She was actually only severely allergic to silver; other things were minor. Last time at the stables, a small silver earring made her palm swell up immediately. This time, she must have come into contact with a large amount of silver for the reaction to be so severe.
But she didn't remember touching any silver items. From taking a cab from the Edge of the Sky to the Melville Manor and then to her room, she hardly touched anything.
Could there have been hidden silver items in the cab that she accidentally touched?
Teresa remarked, "Katherine, you must remember your allergens in the future and be more careful! When I saw you pale and unconscious, Alex and I were freaked out!"
"Yes, I'll be more careful in the future." Responding to Teresa, Katherine looked around the ward again.
Teresa seemed to guess something and leaned in to ask, "Katherine, are you looking for Alex?"
Katherine didn't deny it. "Where is he?"
She wasn't really looking for Alex; she was just curious. Alex had brought her to the hospital, so where was he?
Did he just leave her with Teresa and walk away?
Teresa thought for a moment and then told Katherine the truth, "Katherine, Scarlett was in a car accident on her way home and was also brought to this hospital. Alex just got a call from Sunny and went to see Scarlett."
Katherine lowered her eyes. "Oh, I see."
Teresa looked at Katherine with a flicker in her eyes as if she wanted to say something but hesitated. "Katherine, are you hungry? Do you want me to get you something to eat?"
Katherine shook her head and replied, "No, I'm not hungry."
Teresa felt a bit uneasy. "Katherine, don't be mad. Alex should be back soon!"
Katherine smiled. "No, I'm not mad."
When a person was sick, their spirit become fragile and sensitive.
She wasn't mad; she just wanted to go home, back to her and Ambrosia Frank's home, cuddle with their Molly on the couch, listen to her favorite classical music and do nothing.
Suddenly, someone pushed the door open and walked in. It was Alex, tall and slender. Behind him was Scarlett, also wearing a hospital gown.
