Chapter 314 Scarlett's True Colors Revealed
How could she just stand by, watching her grandparents suffer from missing their daughter for so many years and dealing with illness?
If Mom knew about this, she'd be heartbroken.
Sunny, standing nearby, stroked his chin. "So, Katherine, does this mean... you'll be my cousin now?"
Katherine raised an eyebrow. "What, are you happy about it?"
Sunny lifted his chin arrogantly. "Pfft! What's there to be happy about? I don't need another sister!"
Katherine chuckled and turned to leave.
Sunny furrowed his brows and quickly chased after her. "Hey, where are you going?"
Katherine replied calmly, "Going to keep Aria company."
Sunny puffed out his chest and caught up with her. "Wait. I'll go with you!"
Katherine gave him a sidelong glance but didn't shake him off, letting him follow.
Meanwhile, in the guest room on the other side, Sophie, filled with remorse, directed her sentiments towards Scarlett, expressing self-reproach.
"Scarlett, it's all my fault! If I hadn't suggested Katherine perform 'The Phantom of the Opera,' none of this would have happened. I'm really sorry."
In the privacy of the guest room, Scarlett couldn't hide her anger anymore. She sneered coldly. "Yeah, it's all your fault, you idiot! You can't do anything right!"
Sophie was stunned. "Scarlett?"
She was sincerely apologizing, but she didn't expect the usually gentle Scarlett to call her an idiot so directly?!
In Sophie's mind, Scarlett had always been the kindest, most gentle, and purest girl in the world. She had never seen Scarlett speak so harshly, and for a moment, she was dazed, wondering if she had misheard!
"Scarlett, I'm really sorry. I intended to help you by getting rid of Katherine as an obstacle. I thought making her go on stage would embarrass her and anger Marcus, but who knew she could actually sing opera."
Scarlett glared at Sophie with disgust and mocked her. "For my sake? Look at what happened now. Katherine has become the Ayers family's god-granddaughter, and with their backing, she'll be even more confident in lording over me in the future!"
Sophie felt genuinely guilty, but her shock outweighed her guilt at this moment because the sharp and harsh Scarlett in front of her felt like a completely different person from the angelic Scarlett she used to know.
"Scarlett, how..." Sophie frowned, looking at Scarlett as if she were a stranger.
Scarlett noticed Sophie looking at her with a scrutinizing gaze, bit her lip in frustration, and tried to calm herself down. She regained her usual gentle and innocent demeanor.
She explained, "Ahem. Sophie, don't misunderstand! I wasn't mad at you just now; I was mad at Katherine! You know I usually don't lose my temper, but Katherine just made me so angry!"
Sophie was taken aback, but seeing Scarlett return to her usual self subsided her astonishment. This was the best friend she knew.
"Scarlett, even if you were mad at me, it would be justified! Because I do bear a lot of responsibility for letting Katherine succeed today!" answered Sophie.
Scarlett wheeled herself over to Sophie, took her hand warmly, and comforted her, "Sophie, it's not your fault. I know you had my best interests at heart. Blame Katherine for her cunning ways! I used to see her as a trustworthy sister, but she's crossed the line by challenging me and threatening what matters most to us. No matter how patient I am, I won't stand for being bullied like this. As they say, 'There's a limit to tolerance, and I've reached mine.'"
Sophie nodded in agreement. "Scarlett, what should we do now? We can't let Marcus really recognize Katherine as his god-granddaughter!"
Scarlett's eyes flashed, and she said weakly, "Sophie, I don't know what to do either. I'm afraid we can't fight Katherine; you've seen how formidable she is."
Sophie looked unwilling. "But we can't just let her do whatever she wants!"
Scarlett said meaningfully, "Sophie, I'm actually more worried about you."
Sophie was puzzled. "Worried about me?"
Scarlett looked concerned. "Yes, because Mr. Ayers acknowledging Katherine as his god-granddaughter today will have a significant impact on you. Since Alex and I had Charles, our relationship has been solid. Alex isn't interested in Katherine anymore, so even with the support of the Ayers family, it won't affect Alex. Katherine realized she couldn't win over Alex, so she changed her focus! Sophie, I know you care deeply for Bernard, so I'm worried! Can't you see? Katherine's new target is Bernard! She joined the Mitchell Group to get close to Bernard, and now she's become the Ayers family's god-granddaughter. If she pleases them and they decide to match her with Bernard in the future, you might lose your chance! As for Bernard's marriage, my parents will respect their decision."
Scarlett's analysis made sense, and Sophie became anxious. "What! How can that be? Katherine isn't worthy of being engaged to Bernard!"
Scarlett sighed helplessly. "Sophie, no matter what happens, you're the best sister-in-law in my heart! But if Grandpa and Grandma intervene and make decisions for Katherine, I won't be able to help you in front of Bernard!"
Sophie's biggest wish was to marry Bernard, and she always believed that with Scarlett's help, she would succeed.
But now, Katherine had suddenly become a major threat, trying to steal her man!
Under Scarlett's manipulation, Sophie's sense of crisis skyrocketed, and her eyes turned fierce as she clenched her fists.
"Scarlett, don't worry about me. I have a way to deal with Katherine!"
Scarlett pretended to stop her. "Sophie, don't be impulsive."
Sophie gritted her teeth. "I'm impulsive because she forced me! How dare she go after Bernard? I won't allow it!"
"Who's going after me?"
The door suddenly opened, and Bernard walked in leisurely after finishing his work.
Seeing Bernard enter, Sophie and Scarlett were momentarily stunned but quickly composed their expressions.
"What are you two talking about? Why do you look so upset?" Bernard asked calmly, walking elegantly towards Scarlett and gently asking, "Scarlett, how are you feeling? Is your foot any better?"
