Chapter 431 Test Results

Alex was stunned. Katherine's logic was spot on!

If he didn't sign the agreement, he'd look guilty. He couldn't argue with her. Given her tough past and insecurity in marriage, her request made sense.

If signing it made her feel better, he'd do it, no problem! Plus, she wasn't leaving him again.

Meanwhile, Sunny woke up after a long sleep. Edwin saw him awake and finally relaxed. "Sunny, how are you feeling?" Bernard, who had been deep in thought on the sofa, snapped out of it and walked over to the bed. Sunny opened his eyes, still looking confused and unwell. "Dad, Bernard, what's wrong with me?"

Edwin replied, "You ate something bad. You'll be fine after a few days in the hospital."

Sunny, being simple-minded, didn't question it. Bernard gave his dad a knowing look but didn't say anything. He knew his dad wasn't protecting Alice; he just didn't want Sunny upset by the truth.

If Sunny found out his mom had tampered with the pomegranate juice to harm someone, it would crush him. It wastough for anyone, especially a naive kid, to accept their mom isn't a good person. Better to tell him later, once he recovered.

Sunny suddenly remembered something and looked at Bernard, worried. "Bernard, I haven't finished my homework. Can you get someone to bring it to the hospital? I'll catch up later."

Bernard frowned but spoke gently. "Don't worry about homework now. Your health is more important. You can catch up later."

Sunny sighed in relief. "Thanks, Bernard..."

Hearing someone crying, Sunny looked over at his mom, Alice. "Mom, why are you crying? I'm not dead!"

Alice wiped her tears. She felt too ashamed to approach Sunny because Edwin and Bernard were glaring at her.

"Sunny, thank goodness you're awake! As long as you're okay."

Sunny felt bad for her. "Mom, stop crying! People might think I'm dead!"

"Don't say that!" Alice quickly wiped her tears.

"Alright, I won't cry anymore. I'm just relieved you're okay." Alice was genuinely scared. If anything had happened to Sunny, she'd have no hope left.

Suddenly, the warddoor opened, and someone walked in. Everyone turned to see Scarlett, looking pale and a bit dizzy after her physical exam.

Seeing Sunny awake, her eyes finally focused. "Sunny, you're awake!"

Sunny nodded. "Scarlett, I'm fine! But what's up with you? You look so pale."

Alice remembered Scarlett had also drunk the juice with saffron. Though she had vomited, she might not have gotten it all out. "Scarlett, didn't you just have a check-up? Did you finish all the tests?"

Scarlett's face turned worse at the mention of the check-up. "Uh... Mom, don't worry. I did the tests, and everything's normal. Nothing's wrong with me!"

Alice pulled Scarlett closer, genuinely concerned. She also spoke loudly enough for Edwin and Bernard to hear. "Scarlett, if the tests are fine, why do you look so bad? It's my fault. I tried to stand up for you but almost hurt you and Sunny instead!"

Scarlett caught the hint in Alice's eyes and played along. "Mom, I'm fine! You were just careless. Don't do that again! It's a good thing I drank that pomegranate juice. What if Katherine, who's pregnant, had drunk it?"

Alice put on a remorseful act, choking up. "I know, I was really careless. I won't do it again!"

Edwin and Bernard watched their performance, feeling disgusted and disappointed but decided not to pursue the matter further.

Sunny, however, was confused. "Mom, what are you and Scarlett talking about? What careless thing did you do? How did you almost hurt Scarlett and me?"

Scarlett and Alice were stunned, unsure how to explain. Edwin didn't want Sunny to know the messy details, so he cleared his throat and interrupted. "Scarlett, you were gone a while for the check-up. What tests did you do? You don't look well. What did the doctor say?"

Scarlett replied, "Dad, I'm fine... They just drew a lot of blood, and I got a bit dizzy. I might not have recovered yet, so I look pale."

"Where's your test report?" Bernard squinted at her, extending his hand for the results.

Scarlett was taken aback, her eyes flickering. "Bernard, I forgot to take the report. The doctor said all my indicators were normal, so I didn't bother."

Bernard sensed she was hiding something. He frowned and commanded, "Go get it now and show it to me!"

Scarlett smiled, pretending to be relaxed. "Bernard, you don't need to worry about me. I'm really fine; nothing's wrong!"
