Chapter 732 Mommy Needs to Be Happy
Katherine usually met such requests from the children.
She affectionately ruffled George's hair. "Alright! Don't worry, Mommy will ask Fiona and Nathan to check if there are any kites for sale nearby, and then we'll buy one for you and Edith, okay?"
George nodded. "Okay!"
Then Katherine turned to Fiona and said, "Fiona, can you and Nathan take a walk around and see if there are any kite stalls?"
This was also a way to give Fiona and Nathan some alone time together, otherwise, with George, Edith, and Charles around, they would never get a chance to talk properly.
Fiona was more than happy to oblige. After nodding in agreement, she shyly looked at Nathan. "Nathan, would you mind accompanying me for a walk around?"
Nathan smiled warmly and extended a hand to her. "Not at all, let's go."
Fiona was stunned for a full three seconds, unable to believe that Nathan was actually offering to hold her hand.
Feeling flattered and somewhat dazed, she walked over to him.
Nathan gently took her hand and led her away.
Katherine watched them with a hint of satisfaction in her eyes. Then she thought of the strange man in the wheelchair she had seen earlier and glanced back.
The spot was now empty; the man was gone.
Katherine felt a strange mix of unease and curiosity.
At this moment, Edith suddenly came over, looking adorably confused, and asked, "Mommy, is Fiona dating Nathan?"
Katherine could hardly believe that the word 'dating' came out of her three-year-old Edith's mouth!
She tugged at the corner of her mouth and looked at Edith's innocent face. "Edith, do you know what dating means?"
Edith nodded seriously. "I know! It means two people like each other and are happy together!"
Katherine furrowed her brow. "Who told you that?"
Edith replied, "No one told me. I learned it from fairy tales! The stories always end with the prince and princess living happily ever after, which means they are dating!"
Katherine felt a bit helpless. Although Edith was the youngest, she was the most mature of the three children.
She had learned to read many words before starting kindergarten and could read picture books and fairy tales on her own.
Girls seemed to have a higher level of understanding than boys. Edith had grasped the concept of dating from a few fairy tales.
Katherine ruffled Edith's little head. "Yes, Edith, you're right! Fiona is dating Nathan, and Nathan might become your uncle in the future!"
Edith blinked her beautiful big eyes. "If Fiona is dating Nathan, then who is Mommy dating?"
Katherine's expression stiffened. Who was she dating?
The person she was dating, Alex, had disappeared. Who could she date?
Katherine forced a smile. "Mommy isn't dating anyone. Not everyone needs to date!"
Edith tilted her little head in frustration. "But the fairy tales say that you need to find someone you like and date to be happy! Mommy, don't you have someone you like? If you don't date, does that mean you're not happy? Edith doesn't want Mommy to be unhappy!"
Katherine was truly stumped by Edith's innocent question. "I have someone I love. Because I love him, I can't date anyone else."
Edith asked curiously, "Who does Mommy like? Where is he? Why doesn't he come to date Mommy?"
This was a question Katherine wouldn't want to answer if anyone else asked, but she couldn't ignore Edith.
Katherine sighed. "The person Mommy likes is busy and can't come back for now. When he returns, there will be someone to date Mommy!"
Edith asked again, "Is the person Mommy likes Daddy?"
Katherine was taken aback and then honestly nodded to her. "Yes, the person Mommy likes is your Daddy!"
Edith pouted unhappily. "Edith doesn't like Daddy!"
Katherine was puzzled. "Why don't you like Daddy? You haven't even met him?"
Edith replied, "It's because I haven't met him that I don't like him! In fairy tales, the prince always appears to save the princess when she needs him the most and fights dragons for her! But Daddy has never been by Mommy's side! Daddy doesn't like Mommy! Edith doesn't like him either!"
Children's logic could be amusingly absurd at times, yet it made Katherine feel a bit sad.
"Before you were born, he would appear to protect me when I needed him," Katherine said in a somber tone.
Edith was confused. "Then why didn't he appear after we were born? Doesn't he like us?"
Katherine shook her head. "No, it's not that he doesn't like you. He has things to do and can't leave. Trust me, one day, your Daddy will come back, and you'll like him too."
Edith pouted with some resentment. "But when you are sad at night, you hug a pillow instead of him. He can't be there for you."
Katherine was surprised to realize that her three-year-old daughter had noticed and remembered her moments of sadness.
She felt a sense of relief and smiled. "Everyone has sad moments, and that's normal. Your Daddy also has sad moments, and Mommy isn't by his side either. Edith, Mommy doesn't want you to think too much at such a young age or to dislike your Daddy. Trust me, one day, we will overcome all obstacles and be reunited as a family."
Edith looked into her Mommy's serious and determined eyes and threw herself into her arms. "I also hope that even when Daddy isn't here, you will be happy and joyful!"
"Yes, I will."
After chatting with Edith for a while, Fiona and Nathan returned from their walk.
Katherine stood up and asked, "How was it? Did you find any kite stalls?"
Fiona, still blushing from holding hands with Nathan, shook her head regretfully. "Nathan and I walked around the area, but we didn't see any kite stalls. That kite must have been brought from home!"
Katherine sighed and turned to George. "There aren't any for sale. I'll buy one online when we get home, and we'll come back here to fly it next time, okay?"
George lowered his head in disappointment. "Okay."
Since they couldn't buy one now, he really wanted to meet the owner of that kite.
