Chapter 316 The Dominant Man Hasn't Changed!

Katherine couldn't help but regret her choices, feeling frustrated.

She looked like a drowned rat and had no desire to face him.

If it were a crowded place, she could've easily pretended not to see Alex and walked away.

But on this deserted path, it was just the two of them; there was no way to avoid it.

What a small world!

The distance between them kept closing.

Alex walked steadily with his hands in his pockets. His handsome face was expressionless, but his dark eyes were locked on her, scrutinizing.

Face to face, Katherine couldn't pretend not to see him. She gave a polite nod, like greeting an acquaintance, and tried to walk past him, subtly quickening her pace.

"Stop."

Alex's voice was low, with no obvious inflection, yet full of pressure.

Katherine reluctantly stopped but didn't turn to look at him. "Mr. Melville, do you need something?"

"Turn around!" he commanded.

His tone irritated Katherine, and she didn't comply. "Sorry, Mr. Melville. I'm heading to the gate and don't need to turn around."

Seeing her disobedience, Alex frowned but said nothing more. He stepped around to face her, his tall figure blocking her view.

Katherine looked straight ahead, her vision obscured by Alex's broad chest.

Not wanting to make eye contact, she kept her gaze down. "Mr. Melville, if you have something to say, just say it."

He looked down at her, his eyes dark and intense.

After a few seconds of silence, Alex noticed her wet hair and coffee-stained clothes. "What happened?" he asked coldly.

Katherine replied nonchalantly, "I accidentally spilled coffee on myself. I'm heading home to change."

Alex's eyes narrowed. "You accidentally spilled coffee on your head?"

Clearly, her explanation wasn't fooling him.

Katherine laughed self-deprecatingly. "Yes! I'm clumsy. Thanks for your concern, Mr. Melville. If there's nothing else, I'll be going now! Bye!"

She tried to walk around him again, but he blocked her path again.

"Katherine, I'm asking you again. What happened?"

His tone was impatient.

Katherine was annoyed, unable to leave. She didn't understand why Alex was so insistent on knowing!

He was hard to fool; she couldn't leave without telling the truth.

After a moment, Katherine looked up, glaring at him unhappily. "Because I upset Miss Mitchell, Mr. Mitchell got angry and fired me."

Alex's eyes darkened. "And he poured coffee on you?"

Katherine nodded. "Yes! That's exactly what happened!"

He insisted on the truth to make her admit her embarrassment and laugh at her, right?

She thought, 'Well, whatever. Laugh if you want!'

"Mr. Melville, I've told you the truth. Can I go now?" asked Katherine.

Bernard had already poured a cup of coffee on her to vent his anger on Scarlett's behalf. Even if Alex wanted to protect his fiancée, he shouldn't trouble her any more, right?

"You can."

Alex said the two words without any warmth.

Katherine quickly walked around him and left.

But after a few steps, her wrist was grabbed by a rough hand!

She was stunned and turned to look at him. "Mr. Melville? What now?"

Alex didn't stop her but pulled her wrist, turning her in the other direction and walking quickly.

Katherine was baffled and instinctively tried to pull her wrist free, but she couldn't match his strength. She started to complain, asking what he was doing.

He ignored her questions, pulling her steadily.

When they reached the parking lot behind the Ayers family's backyard, Alex opened the door of a black car, pushed Katherine inside, and said in a deep voice, "Stay here and wait for me!"

With that, the door was slammed shut with a bang!

Katherine frowned deeply, rubbing her wrist where his grip had left a red mark, and looked through the window at his departing figure, feeling annoyed!

What was Alex doing? Dragging her here and locking her in the car, then leaving?

Why should she wait for him to come back?

Only a fool would listen to him!

She reached for the car door, trying to get out, but found it was locked.

She pressed the button on the door, but it didn't work; the door wouldn't open.

Katherine started to get agitated and turned to look at the driver's seat, trying to find the unlock button.

But then she realized there was someone else in the car!

It was Alex's trusted subordinate, Leander, sitting in the driver's seat, looking back at her with a surprised and helpless expression.

Katherine frowned and said, "Mr. Nelson, please unlock the door for me!"

Leander, though unaware of what had happened between Mr. Melville and Ms. Galatea, replied with his usual loyal and meticulous manner, "Ms. Galatea, you heard what Mr. Melville said before he left. I don't have the authority to unlock the door and let you go. You should wait for Mr. Melville, or I won't be able to explain."

Katherine was at a loss for words.

She could understand Leander Nelson's predicament as an employee and didn't want to make things difficult for him.

But she was still very angry!

What right did Alex have to lock her in here?

They were no longer connected, so what right did he have to interfere with her freedom?

Alex could never change his self-centered nature, thinking that his status and power allowed him to control others as he pleased. Hmph!

"Ms. Galatea, here."

Leander didn't unlock the door for her but respectfully handed her a pack of wet wipes.

Katherine's hair and clothes were still stained with coffee, and she looked disheveled.

"Thank you!" Unable to get out, she took the wipes and started cleaning the coffee stains.

Leander respectfully watched Katherine wipe her hair and asked, "Ms. Galatea, if I may, where have you been lately?"

Katherine, busy wiping, replied absentmindedly, "My cooperation with your boss has ended. I can go wherever I want. I don't think I have any obligation to report to you, do I?"

Leander was silent for a moment before saying, "But Mr. Melville has been looking for you."
