Chapter 366 Are They Siblings?
Bernard's face turned serious. "They took my blood sample?"
Billy nodded. "Yeah, Mr. Mitchell. I thought it was serious, so I had those two nurses brought back to Janetrick."
Bernard stood up, adjusting his suit. "Where are they now?"
"In the basement, under watch."
"Take me to them!"
"Yes, sir!"
The Mitchell family basement was fancy and fully furnished, but it was usually too cold for anyone to hang out there.
Right now, the two nurses from Kryptonix City were locked in a room, scared and crying, huddled together.
One nurse, on the edge of a breakdown, got up, knelt in front of the bodyguard, and pleaded, "Sir, I'm just an ordinary person. My family has no money. There's nothing to gain from kidnapping me! Please let me go. I swear I won't call the police!"
The other nurse also knelt. "My family is poor too. My dad borrowed money for my tuition, and we haven't paid it back yet! There's no value in kidnapping us. Please, have mercy and let us go!"
The bodyguard stayed stone-faced and didn't react, no matter how much they begged.
Suddenly, footsteps echoed outside, followed by the sound of the doorknob turning.
Billy walked in, nodding at the bodyguard, who nodded back and left.
The nurses thought the real kidnapper had arrived and huddled together, nervously watching Billy.
Billy ignored them, pulled a chair to the center, and opened the door for Bernard.
Bernard walked in slowly, his cold, sharp gaze sweeping over the nurses. Though his face was emotionless, it radiated danger.
The nurses immediately recognized Bernard!
He was the handsome guy who had donated blood at their hospital. How could they forget?
Huddled together, they whispered.
"It's him, the guy who donated blood at our hospital!"
"He's the one who brought us here? But why?"
"Maybe he's interested in us and wants to keep us here?"
"Come on! We're about to die!"
"Uh... I can't think of any other reason. We didn't provoke him."
Bernard sat elegantly, took the coffee handed to him, and sipped before speaking, "What are you two whispering about? Why not speak up so we can all chat?"
The nurses felt this handsome man was more approachable than the fierce bodyguard, so they turned to face Bernard.
The nurse on the left spoke first, "Mr. Mitchell, we remember you. You donated blood at our hospital. You must be a good person and wouldn't hurt us, right?"
The nurse on the right nodded repeatedly. "Yes, yes! Mr. Mitchell looks like a good person!"
Bernard gave a lukewarm smile. "Whether I'm a good person depends on whether you tell the truth."
The nurses looked at each other, confused but knew they had to cooperate to get out of there.
"Mr. Mitchell, ask us anything you want! We'll tell you everything we know!"
"Yes, yes! We'll tell you everything we know!"
Bernard took another sip of coffee. "I heard you two secretly took my blood sample. Is that true?"
Their faces froze. They hadn't expected this!
They had done it secretly, without leaving any records, thinking they'd never get caught.
Seeing their guilty silence, Bernard was more convinced they were up to something shady. He frowned. "What were you planning? Illegal gene editing or selling my organs?"
They snapped back to reality, quickly waving their hands.
"Mr. Mitchell, you misunderstood! We're just nurses; we don't have that kind of power!"
"Yes, yes! We wouldn't dare!"
Bernard's eyes were cold. "Then why did you steal my blood sample?"
The nurse on the left hesitated. "We..."
The nurse on the right stammered, "Uh..."
Billy sternly pressured. "Tell the truth! Don't play games. If you want to go home and see your family again, confess everything honestly! Otherwise..."
Terrified, they didn't wait for Billy to finish his threat before spilling the truth.
The nurse on the left spoke first, "Mr. Mitchell, we're really sorry! We were just curious and secretly took your blood sample to do a DNA paternity test. We didn't do anything else! We swear!"
The nurse on the right nodded. "It's true! We only did a paternity test! We know it was wrong, and we sincerely apologize!"
Bernard was skeptical. "Why would you want to do a DNA paternity test on me? With whom?"
Frightened by Billy's threat, they confessed everything.
"...It was with Ms. Galatea, who donated blood with you last time."
Bernard frowned. "Katherine?"
"...Yes, her! We overheard you telling her to get an abortion in the blood collection room, and we got curious about your relationship with her.
We bet on what your relationship with her was. She thought you were siblings, because you disapproved of her boyfriend and told her to get an abortion.
I thought you two were dating and wanted to break up, so you told her to get an abortion.
To settle the bet, we took your blood samples and did a paternity test."
"We're sorry! Really sorry! We shouldn't have invaded your privacy! We know we were wrong. Please forgive us."
A paternity test on him and Katherine? This was absurd!
Bernard felt both amused and annoyed.
