Chapter 269 Pursuing Katherine

Alex glanced at Frank's eager invitation, then at Katherine, who didn't seem to mind Frank's touch. His eyes, bloodshot and filled with mixed emotions, clashed with the cold, sinister smile on his lips.

"Great," Alex muttered.

He walked around the table, past them, and stormed out.

The door slammed shut!

Katherine finally exhaled, though she felt a strange, heavy pressure.

Alex's cold smile as he left made her uneasy, as if something had shattered in his eyes.

What was up with him?

Why did he look at her like that?

While Katherine pondered, Frank leaned in, curious. "Katherine, what's going on? How did Alex find our place?"

Katherine sank into the couch, her body relaxing from the tension. She asked, "Where were you? You didn't answer my call!"

Frank went to the shoe cabinet to grab the takeout he brought back.

"I went to get you some barbecue. Left my phone in the car and forgot it. By the time I called back, you didn't answer," he explained.

Katherine frowned, annoyed. "Frank, when did you change your contact name in my phone to 'Hubby'?"

Frank looked puzzled. "What? I didn't!"

Katherine's brow furrowed. "It wasn't you? Then who?"

Speak of the devil.

Just then, Katherine's phone rang again, showing "Hubby" on the caller ID.

She looked at the phone, then at Frank, who hadn't touched it.

It really wasn't Frank!

Who could it be?

She answered, "Hello?"

Jonathan's cheerful voice came through. "Katherine, are you home?"

Katherine rolled her eyes. "Jonathan, it's you!"

She remembered that day at the gallery in Seaside City when Jonathan had insisted on getting her number. She was busy eating and handed him her phone to save his number himself.

They hadn't spoken since, so she hadn't noticed.

Who would've thought Jonathan would save his number as "Hubby"?

Jonathan asked, "Katherine, is my call making you that excited?"

Katherine snapped, "Jonathan, you're too much!"

He laughed. "What did I do?"

"Don't play dumb. What name did you save your number under in my phone?" Katherine scoffed.

Jonathan chuckled, "Oh, that! What's the big deal? It'll be true sooner or later."

Katherine scoffed, "Don't be so sure!"

"Katherine, free tomorrow? Let's have dinner," Jonathan suggested.

"No!" she blurted out.

Annoyed, Katherine hung up. Irritated, she ate some of the barbecue Frank brought back and went to bed early.

She was physically and mentally exhausted.

The next morning at the Mitchell Group, Bernard stepped out of the elevator with Billy trailing behind.

It wasn't work hours yet, so only a few employees were there, but the CEO's secretary was already organizing her tasks.

Seeing the boss, Katherine stood up and greeted him. "Good morning, Mr. Mitchell!"

Bernard paused, gave her a once-over, and said in a cold tone, "Ms. Galatea, you seem to be in good spirits. Yesterday's issues didn't bother you. Impressive."

Katherine maintained her smile. "It's very kind of you, Mr. Mitchell."

Bernard looked away, clearly not wanting to see her any longer, and pushed open his office door.

Billy stayed behind and asked quietly, "Ms. Galatea, are you okay after yesterday?"

Katherine replied calmly, "I'm fine."

"That's good," he said.

Billy felt a bit sorry for Katherine and sighed.

Yesterday, Ms. Mitchell cried all night because she saw Katherine leaning on Alex at the party. She felt she was losing Mr. Melville.

Mr. Mitchell had to comfort Ms. Mitchell all night and didn't get any sleep, so he was in a foul mood today.

No wonder Mr. Mitchell disliked Katherine so much. She was a major source of stress for Ms. Mitchell!

Mr. Mitchell adored Ms. Mitchell and couldn't stand to see her suffer, so he inevitably took it out on Katherine.

All morning, Bernard didn't call Katherine into the office or give her any tasks. Instead, he called Billy in several times to bring him coffee.

Bernard clearly didn't want to see her today.

Katherine, understanding her position, didn't bother the boss. After organizing her files, she had no work to do and played some solitaire on the computer.

Suddenly, someone tapped on her desk!

Katherine looked up to see Jonathan's charming face smiling at her.

"Katherine, working hard?" he teased.

Seeing Jonathan reminded Katherine of the mess caused by him saving his number as "Hubby" in her phone, which annoyed her.

But she was at work and needed to be professional. She stood up and smiled. "Mr. Mostow, here to see Mr. Mitchell? Please wait a moment; I'll inform him right away!"

She picked up the phone to call the CEO's office.

Jonathan pressed the hang-up button. "No, I'm here to see you today."

Katherine's professional smile faded, replaced by a less friendly expression. "You're here to see me? I'm sorry, but I'm working and don't have time."

Jonathan smiled. "You'll have time soon enough."

With that cryptic remark, Jonathan turned and walked straight into Bernard's office.

Katherine frowned. She wanted to stop him but didn't have time to speak before he was already inside!

Jonathan was really something. She hadn't informed Mr. Mitchell yet!

Letting people in without permission, Bernard would be looking for her again soon!

Sure enough, not long after Jonathan entered the CEO's office, Bernard called Katherine in through the intercom.

Knowing she had messed up, Katherine made two cups of coffee and brought them in, hoping to calm Bernard's anger.

After placing the two cups of coffee in front of Jonathan and Bernard, she stepped back and respectfully asked, "Mr. Mitchell, what can I do for you?"

Bernard looked up at her, took a sip of coffee, and then said slowly, "Katherine, from now on, you are officially promoted to Sales Manager. You will be responsible for all our collaborations with the Mostow Group. You need to work closely with Mr. Mostow and learn from his business acumen."

Katherine was stunned. What? She hadn't done anything, and now she was being promoted to Sales Manager?
