Chapter 243 Katherine, You're Jealous of Me
Was this kid really Scarlett and Alex's?
Katherine stared at the little boy for a moment before glancing at Scarlett, who was beaming.
Scarlett smiled back and said, "Katherine, we didn't get to chat much yesterday. How've you been?"
Katherine gave a faint smile. "I've been good. You look great too, Miss Mitchell."
Scarlett picked up the little boy from the stroller and took the pacifier out of his mouth. "Charles, say hi to Aunt Katherine."
The little boy, who had just learned to walk, mumbled, "Hi, Aunt Katherine."
Perhaps due to her own pregnancy, Katherine found the baby adorable and nodded in acknowledgment. "Hello, little guy."
The boy seemed a bit shy. He looked at Katherine with wide eyes and clung to Scarlett's neck, snuggling into her arms.
Scarlett hugged him and smiled helplessly. "Katherine, don't mind him. Our Charles is a bit shy."
Katherine casually curled her lips. "It's okay. Are you here to see Mr. Mitchell? Go ahead. He's in his office right now."
After saying that, she lowered her head and continued her translation work.
But Scarlett didn't move towards Bernard's office. Instead, she stood there holding the child, watching the busy Katherine. "Katherine, can you help me see if our Charles looks more like me or Alex? I can't tell!"
Katherine looked up again, carefully examining the child for a moment. "I think he looks more like you."
Scarlett smiled sweetly. "Really? Alex says the same thing! I heard sons look more like their moms when they're young and more like their dads as they grow up. I hope our Charles grows up to be as handsome as his dad!"
"Best wishes," Katherine said, forcing a smile before getting back to work.
Scarlett squinted. "Katherine, do you mean it?"
Katherine continued typing without looking up. "What do you think?"
Scarlett chuckled, her tone tinged with sarcasm. "I don't think you do. Because you're jealous of me!"
Katherine paused her typing for a moment, then chuckled lightly and continued, "Miss Mitchell, you're overthinking. I'm very busy and have no interest in the Alex you mentioned."
Scarlett stared at Katherine with a warning look for a moment, then spoke with a hint of menace, "I hope you're telling the truth!"
After that, she finally entered the CEO's office, still holding the child.
Hearing the office door close, Katherine's hands paused from translating documents, and she touched her abdomen.
For some reason, seeing the child in Scarlett's arms made her abdomen feel uncomfortable.
She gently rubbed her abdomen and murmured, "It's okay. Even without a father, Mommy can manage both roles. Be good, and don't make Mommy too tired so I can keep looking for your Grandma!"
After rubbing for a while, her abdomen felt better, and Katherine continued typing.
She had complex feelings about the child and knew that according to social norms, she shouldn't secretly have this child alone.
Yet, her principles forbade her from contemplating an abortion.
Katherine had a rough childhood. She was passed around like a ball, and no one wanted to take care of her.
After many twists and turns, she finally ended up in a foster home, where volunteers took care of her, and she grew up on government welfare.
Despite not practicing Christianity or Catholicism, she was influenced by it from a young age.
No matter what, that night was consensual, and the child was innocent.
She wanted this child.
As Scarlett walked into the office with the child, Sophie stood up to greet her warmly, as if she had just reunited with a family member, visibly relieved.
Sophie called out, "Scarlett, you're here! It must have been tiring to come all the way with the child, right?"
Scarlett smiled sweetly. "Not at all. I came with a stroller, but I left it at the office door. Sophie, have you been waiting for me long?"
Sophie smiled wryly and shook her head. "Not too long. I enjoy spending more time with Bernard."
Observing the scene, Scarlett realized that Bernard had likely neglected Sophie once more.
She looked around and saw the untouched lunchbox on the table. Turning to Bernard, who was still busy, she said, "Bernard, Sophie kindly brought you lunch. Why haven't you eaten it?"
Bernard stopped his work, looked up at his sister, and said gently, "Scarlett, I'm not hungry yet."
Scarlett insisted, "Bernard, no matter how busy you are, you can't skip meals. Come and eat something first, then continue working! Otherwise, I'll be mad!"
Bernard, who wouldn't give in to anyone else, had to give in to his precious sister. "Alright, I'll listen to Scarlett. I'll eat first. Let me wash my hands."
Bernard got up and walked to the office restroom.
Seeing Bernard finally going to wash his hands before eating the meal she had made, Sophie looked at her good friend with gratitude. "Scarlett, thank you for getting Bernard to eat and for coming all this way to help matchmake us!"
Scarlett, understanding as always, offered her comfort, "Sophie, we're best friends. No need to thank me! Bernard is just a workaholic. Don't mind him. I only recognize you as my sister-in-law!"
Sophie was even more touched. Scarlett was the best person in the world; she had always been her best friend.
Just like before, no matter what happened, she would always stand by Scarlett's side unconditionally, willing to do anything for her!
Sophie said, "By the way, Scarlett, did you see? Katherine is sitting at the secretary's desk outside. She's now Bernard's secretary!"
Mentioning Katherine, Scarlett pretended to be a bit timid and nodded. "Yes, I saw her. But I think Katherine is just here to work. She probably doesn't have any ill intentions."
Observing Scarlett's naivety, Sophie felt indignation on behalf of her friend. "Scarlett, you're too naive and kind. That's why Katherine bullied you before! Don't worry. Now that I'm here, I'll keep a close eye on her for you!"
Saying that, Sophie reached out and touched the chubby face of the little boy in Scarlett's arms, then warned, "Scarlett, now that you and Alex have this child, the wedding will be on the agenda sooner or later. Now more than ever, we can't allow Katherine to interfere and spoil everything!"
