Chapter 683 Afraid Boyfriend Will Change His Heart
Ambrosia rolled down the car window, trying to clear out the smoky air. "I can play along if you want to date, but if you're thinking about marriage, find someone else."
"No chance. I'm sticking with you," Sunny said, stubborn as ever.
He couldn't wrap his head around it. Usually, it was the woman pushing for marriage, worried the guy might bail or be a flake. How did it get flipped in his case?
Ambrosia sighed, "Marriage has never been part of my life plan. You've got the wrong person."
"Is this what they call anti-marriage?" Sunny frowned, then gave in a bit, "Alright. We don't have to get married, but you have to date me forever and not see anyone else."
Ambrosia looked at Sunny's serious face and chuckled, "Don't be naive."
Sunny insisted, "I'm very serious, I..."
Before he could finish, Ambrosia stubbed out her cigarette and got out of the car because she saw Alex helping Katherine out of the police station.
Sunny, frustrated at not finishing his sentence, also got out of the car.
Teresa was the first to run up to Alex and Katherine. "Alex. Katherine. It's so good to see you both are okay."
Frank walked up, looking at Katherine with concern. "Katherine, how did it go? Did you finish giving your statement?"
Katherine nodded. "Yes, it's all settled."
Frank smiled, relieved, "Good to hear. So, are you coming home with us today, or with Mr. Melville?"
Just as Katherine was about to speak, Bernard walked over, saying, "She's coming home with me."
Standing in front of Katherine, Bernard's expression softened. "Katherine, you must be tired. Let's go home and rest."
Katherine nodded at Bernard and started walking towards him.
Alex gently held her back, not letting her leave his side, and looked at Bernard. "I'll take her home."
Bernard ignored Alex and just looked at Katherine, waiting for her decision.
Katherine shrugged off Alex's hand and refused, "No need to take me home, Mr. Melville. You must be tired these past few days trying to catch the criminals. Go home and rest."
Alex sighed softly, his tone even carrying a hint of pleading, "I'm not tired. Let me take you home, okay?"
Katherine firmly nodded and said calmly, "Alex, come find me when you've sorted out your issues." With that, Katherine walked over to Bernard. "Mr. Mitchell, let's go."
Then she got into Bernard's car.
Alex felt quite helpless. He knew that without resolving his issue, he had no right to cling to her.
He then looked seriously at Bernard. "Take good care of her, please."
Bernard replied bluntly, "Taking care of her is my responsibility, and I'm happy to do it. But if you make her sad or put her in danger again, the Mitchell family won't let you off."
After saying this, Bernard also got into his car.
Soon, the car drove away.
Fiona was supporting Sandra out of the station and happened to witness what had happened. She asked, puzzled, "Alex, why is Katherine staying at the Mitchell mansion? Aren't you worried Bernard might pursue her?"
Sandra thought Fiona had a point. How could Alex just let Katherine be taken away like that?
Alex didn't say much, just replied, "He won't."
Fiona was still worried. "How can you be so sure? He's a guy, Alex. You shouldn't trust Bernard so easily."
Teresa, for once, agreed with Fiona and nodded. "Yeah, Alex, your relationship with Katherine is just starting to get better. Why not take this chance to bring her back? What are you waiting for?"
Seeing someone back her up, Fiona felt her concern was justified. "Exactly. Alex, go get Katherine back."
Alex frowned and said, "Alright, you take the grandparents home first."
It was clear Alex was in a bad mood after Katherine left. Fiona didn't dare say more and obediently nodded. "Okay."
She then turned around to help Sandra and took Sandra and Jackie, who was in a wheelchair, to the car.
After Fiona left, Alex sternly looked at Teresa. "You should go home too. Do your parents know you're out this late?"
"No." Teresa lowered her head. She hadn't told her parents she was out late at night.
Alex said to Frank, "Take her home. I have some things to handle here."
Frank said, "Sure. I'd be happy to." Then he smiled at Teresa, "Let's go, I'll take you home."
Since Alex and Katherine were okay, there was no need to stay here, and Teresa had no choice but to follow Frank to the car.
Once everyone had left, Alex turned around and went back to the police station.
He entered the interrogation room.
The two officers interrogating Carl were at their wits' end, as they hadn't gotten a single useful word out of him. Carl, injured by Katherine, had been taken to the hospital for treatment before coming to the police station for questioning.
His hands and feet were in casts, making him look somewhat ridiculous as he sat in the interrogation room. With a defiant expression, he clearly knew the officers wouldn't dare hit him, so he wasn't answering their questions properly.
When Alex walked in, the two officers stepped out while closing the door behind them.
Alex sat down and asked, "Tell me, who is behind this?"
Carl disliked Alex's superior attitude, and he raised his chin as he said, "No one. I planned it all."
Alex calmly said, "Aren't you afraid the police will give you a heavy sentence if you don't come clean?"
Carl was indifferent. "Alex, you better worry about yourself now. Now the whole world knows your vulnerability is Katherine. Even if you deal with me, someone else will come after you. Your life will never be peaceful, you bastard."
Alex's expression didn't change, and he retorted, "What if I know your vulnerabilities too?"
Carl laughed, "My vulnerabilities? I have no family left in this world. No one cares if I live or die, and I don't care about anyone either. What vulnerabilities do I have? I'm not like you, falling for a woman."
"Is that so?" Alex's tone was light as he slowly took out a necklace from his suit pocket. The pendant on the necklace could open like a locket.
He had already opened the pendant. Inside was a photo of a woman holding a little boy while smiling at the camera.
