Chapter 617 I Feel So Lucky
Frank chuckled. "Chill, man. It's nothing."
Anthony got even more jittery and asked, "Then why'd you call me?"
Frank said slowly, "Sounds like you're outside, huh?"
Anthony explained, "Mr. Perez, it's lunchtime, so I stepped out to grab a bite."
Frank grinned. "With your girl?"
Anthony replied, "Yeah. Mr. Perez, I'll be back at the office right after lunch, before the break's over."
Frank's grin widened. "No need to freak out. I'm not rushing you. Just curious, which spot are you at?"
Anthony was a bit taken aback but didn't dare hide anything from his boss. He glanced up at the restaurant's sign and read the name to Frank.
Just then, Teresa, who was ahead, turned around and noticed Anthony lagging. She came back and asked, "Anthony, what's up? Alex and Katherine are already inside!"
Anthony covered the phone's receiver and whispered, "I'm on a call, it's Mr. Perez."
Teresa's face darkened hearing it was Frank. "Why's he calling you? That jerk giving you trouble?"
Anthony shook his head. "No. Don't say anything. I'll explain after the call."
Worried Teresa's voice might be heard, Anthony walked a bit further away before uncovering the receiver. "Mr. Perez, I'll be back soon. Anything else you need?"
Frank had actually heard everything Teresa said. He chuckled softly. "Nothing else. Just tell your girl if she calls me a jerk again, I'll fire you."
With that, he hung up.
Anthony felt a chill run down his spine, standing there stiffly, thinking, 'Oh no, Mr. Perez heard it! He heard Teresa call him a jerk. Will he really fire me?'
Seeing Anthony still on the phone, Teresa came over and asked, "What's wrong? What does he want? Still not done?"
Anthony snapped out of it. "Teresa, Mr. Perez heard you call him a jerk."
Teresa was stunned at first, then rolled her eyes indifferently. "So what if he heard? What's he gonna do about it?"
Anthony forced a smile. "He can't do anything to you since you've already quit. But Mr. Perez just said he'd fire me."
Teresa got anxious. "Did he really say that?"
Anthony nodded.
Teresa held out her hand. "Give me your phone!"
Anthony didn't know what she was gonna do but handed over his phone without hesitation.
Taking Anthony's phone, Teresa immediately called Frank back.
Frank answered instantly, "What's up? Miss me already?"
Teresa snapped, "Frank, I thought we had no beef. Why are you messing with my boyfriend?"
Frank, holding his car keys and heading to the underground garage, laughed. "We had no beef before, but today you slapped me and called me a jerk in front of my employee. That's beef! You might not know, but I'm a very vengeful guy."
Teresa frowned. "I slapped and cursed you because you harassed me! If you wanna hold a grudge, take it out on me, not my boyfriend. He’s clueless about all this!"
Frank laughed. "How I hold a grudge depends on my mood. Alright, I won't bug you anymore. Catch you later."
With that, he hung up again.
Teresa was fuming and regretted ever liking such a hypocrite, thinking, 'Did I hear that right? Frank said, 'Catch you later.' He must be joking. Whatever, don't dwell on it.'
Teresa snapped out of it and handed the phone back to Anthony. "Don't sweat it, Frank won't dare do anything to you."
Anthony was still anxious, with a hint of blame in his tone. "Teresa, how could you talk to Mr. Perez like that?"
'I thought Teresa took my phone to call Mr. Perez back and explain that she wasn't cursing him. But instead, she cursed him again! How can I go back to work now?' Anthony thought.
Teresa blinked. "I was just standing up for you!"
Anthony sighed. "You can't talk to Mr. Perez like that, even if you're standing up for me. You're not at the company anymore, but I still am. If Mr. Perez really fires me because of you, I..."
Teresa's frown deepened as she looked at him.
Anthony realized his mistake. "I'm sorry, Teresa, I'm not blaming you. It's just that it isn't easy for me to get this job, and I got a bit anxious."
Hearing Anthony's apology, Teresa shook her head in self-reproach. "It's my fault. I didn't consider your feelings and acted on my temper, causing you trouble."
Anthony, worried about losing his job and his hard-won girlfriend, quickly tried to comfort her, "Teresa, don't overthink it. I'm not blaming you. I'm just worried about losing my job and not being able to support you. After all, I'm not alone anymore; I have you. Without a job, I wouldn't feel worthy of being with you."
Teresa shook her head firmly. "Anthony, don't think like that. Even if you lose your job, I won't look down on you. Don't worry, if Frank really fires you because of me, I'll have Alex arrange a position for you at the Melville Group."
Anthony's eyes lit up. "Really? But I don't even know if Mr. Melville has accepted me yet."
Teresa patted Anthony's shoulder. "Don't worry. As long as I accept you, Alex will too. Even though he seems cold, he always fulfills my requests."
Anthony felt reassured. "Teresa, I really envy you. Having an uncle like Mr. Melville means you have nothing to fear."
Teresa laughed. "Once we get married, my uncle will be your uncle too. He'll treat you well!"
Anthony hugged Teresa. "Teresa, thank you for not looking down on me and agreeing to be my girlfriend. I feel so lucky."
Being tightly hugged by Anthony, Teresa didn't struggle but didn't hug back either, her body a bit stiff. "Alright. We should go in now. We can't keep Alex and Katherine waiting."
